Ah yea I know some Candlemass, but I dont like the vocals too much :-/
|
I hated them at first because of the vocals on Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (different vocalist) but I like the other guy's vocals.
Werny:
You like Esoteric too?
Hells yeah man, I've only got Subconscious Dissolution etc. though! It's a classic album but there's only four songs (one is an outro) so it feels kinda short. That's why I wanna get their earlier albums, their first two were double disc and from the time when they were all taking arseloads of horrible drugs. Very psychedelic apparently.
Nuh uh, Electric wizard all the way.
I love the Wiz man, but Eyehategod are just violence incarnate. I think the Wiz's self titled debut is so underrated, it's so heavy and also has this really bizarre atmosphere to it (helped a lot by the cover art). But I am questioning who is the best sludge band now, because I just got Melvins' Bullhead! Boris is BADA$$. And I just heard Skin Horse by Melvins... I'll never look at chipmunks the same way, that is the freakiest thing I've ever heard. |
I thought Electric Wizard were a doom band. My favourite sludge band is either Eyehategod or Crowbar.
Hmm, I dunno, Dopethrone is pretty darn sludgy, but some of their stuff sounds even stoner-ish. Crowbar own....
I really do need to look into more in the stoner/doom genre. I only really know Orange Goblin, Goblin ****, and **** like that
Yeah, I'm just re-discovering my love for it. I've always been more of a stoner fan, but getting into a lot of doom as of late. I saw Orange goblin live earlier in the year, they were pretty awesome. |
I'd call the Wiz's first LP doom and their other ones sludge. I love it when stoner elements are brought into sludge... Bongzilla comes to mind!
|
i like most stoner rock that comes out of california, namely sleep, om, high on fire, kyuss, and queens of the stone age (though they are arguably stoner), and i'm a fan of slooow, agonizing doom, like asunder, graves at sea, etc . . .

I've never understood why people call them stoner. Just because Josh Homme was in Kyuss doesn't make them stoner. |
I think they have stoner rock elements though.
|
I think they have stoner rock elements though.
Well, on their debut album specifically. But as a whole, I'd say they're not stoner.
|
Ok I'm sure this is about impossible because I dont know the artist but it was about 4-5 years ago its the alternative genre infact i was sure it was audi slave but I've been through there albums and found nothing. Its a song about a woman who ends up pulling a gun on a guy and i belive thr poinent part of the song is when she shoots him ? and no its not nickleback but similar type of song ...Ok well hope to get some hits on this

1. WTF are you talking about? 2. Why are you talking about Audioslave and Nickelback in the Stoner/Doom thread? |
Well, on their debut album specifically. But as a whole, I'd say they're not stoner.
i'd also say that there's plenty of stoner elements on rated r, but they die down on songs for the deaf . . . |
I'd only really say the first album is a stoner rock album, the rest is just mainstream rock really. It's all great stuff though, I don't think I've ever disliked a CD that Josh homme's been involved in.
|
They have a very stoner aesthetic to them but yeah, way too modern and clean to be stoner rock.
I got Bathos! By Aarni! Wheeeee! Trippy shat. |
I guess I was wrong about Candlemass, I've been listening to Nightfall and it destroys.
\m/ Well Of Souls is amazing. |
Just ordered:
Clutch - Elephant Riders Fu Manchu - California Crossing Corrosion of Conformity - In the Arms of God I guess the first two might apply to this thread. |
I need to get some Fu Manchu albums. I wish the singer was better, though.
|
I have become interested in doom via Reverend Bizarre, as I love every single one of their songs, so can people recommend bands similar to them?
|

Well Of Souls is amazing.
I love the end, though I've never been able to tell; is that choir synths or Messiah singing along with the guitar? |
I need to get some Fu Manchu albums. I wish the singer was better, though.
I don't really mind the vocals at all, I mean it's not really singing, but the laid back style kinda suits the music. I'll upload some Fu Manchu in one of the mailing lists if you're in any?
|
I like Fu Manchu, but the songs all seem to blend together. Except Evil Eye of course because it was drilled into my ears all through childhood.
|
Yeah, that's why I can only listen to them in phases. They don't quite have the variation of some other stoner bands who will go into jam phases, but they rock a whole lot harder than most. It's all about King of the Road!
|
The only one I ever cared for was California Crossing, but then again, I've only heard a few.
|

St Vitus Warning Orodruin Pentagram |
You guys need to check out this band for me and tell me what you think, I absoloutely love them, favourite band no contest
http://www.myspace.com/bombthesun They are local and they have an album which is absoloute stoner genius (Flows like no other) so if you guys like the stuff I'll upload it for you |
Apparantly Swansea has a tight music scene, that band The Screamin' Eagles and The Buffalo Kings are pretty sweet too. I'll probably be at uni there next year (assuming I don't get into Cardiff), so all this music is making be pretty happy.
Anyways good stuff, would be cool if you could upload it. |
Sorry to bring yet more stoner into a thread that's lacking enough in doom as it is, but is anyone here familiar with Mannhai? I read a good review for their debut album when it was released back in 2001, so I downloaded a couple of tracks, loved them, couldn't find the album anywhere and eventually lost interest. Finally bought it (Amazon marketplace) about twenty minutes ago. Dug up the songs too, and they're about as good as I remember.
|
Esoteric's Epistemological Despondency is one damn trippy album. I love it! It has that lo-fi sludge of Stormcrowfleet and all of these bad acid trip samples...aaaah glorious.
I suppose this question could start some discussion in here; when you listen to really trippy bands, or just stoner bands, do you feel like doing drugs (if you're not already)? I used to be really against drugs, even saying that if I saw one of my friends with illegal drugs I'd report them, but after I got Dopethrone and got into all of the sludge, stoner and funeral doom I have suddenly developed this craving for everything brain-melting and am now very "legalise it!" So yeah, has this music had the same effect on anyone else? |
I feel like I should be saying no, and calling you stupid, but Stoner Rock has always had a similar effect on me. I don't know why exactly, but the experience of listening to it just seems to be amplified by drugs. I don't really like getting mixed up in all that on a regular basis though, I get just as big a thrill out of driving to it.

Awesome, almost makes me hope I don't get into Cardiff
|

Thats the only one I have, and I love it.
|
Awesome album definitly their best.
Really got into that this week, cheers for the upload.

I like Let Us Prey better. Dopethrone just has too many parts that have inaudible guitar, like most of the title track and I, Witchfinder.
|
Yeah Let Us Prey is my favorite too, but I've always liked more upbeat stuff.
|
Thanks for this.
But if I were you I'd remove it from your psot and just assk the people to give their email adresses. You aren't allowed to post copyrighted stuff ( assume this is) You're a champ for uploading this though! |
