I responded before, I guess you didn't see it? Anyway, I'll gladly go through the list again. I'm not sure how much you want taken off, but here are my edits/suggestions:
Bolded are the ones that I would take off, and my suggested additions are italicized. Pretty Hate Machine Down In It Head Like A Hole Sin Terrible Lie Something I Can Never Have Broken Wish Happiness In Slavery Gave Up (?) Suck The Downward Spiral March Of The Pigs (The Becoming ) Closer Hurt Heresy Mr. Self Destruct Reptile Piggy (?) - A Warm Place is what I would put here. Ruiner The Perfect Drug The Fragile The Day The World Went Away We're In This Together The Fragile The Frail/The Wretched Somewhat Damaged The Great Below (?) - - Starfuckers Inc. I wouldn't include this, it's a bad intro. Replace with: I'm Looking Forward To Joining You, Finally , Underneath It All or Complication Into The Void Where Is Everybody (?) The Big Comedown Still And All That Could've Been The Becoming (Still version) Deep (?) I find this unnecessary With Teeth The Hand That Feeds All The Love In The World Every Day Is Exactly The Same Only (?) Sunspots (?) The Line Begins To Blur Right Where It Belongs (?) That's the list the way I would most likely make it. I probably forgot some things, and a lot of my edits are obviously personal opinion, but to me that would be the best way to introduce someone to NIN. So here's what the new list would look like: Pretty Hate Machine Down In It Head Like A Hole Sin Terrible Lie Something I Can Never Have Broken Wish Happiness In Slavery The Downward Spiral The Becoming Closer Hurt Heresy Mr. Self Destruct Reptile A Warm Place Ruiner The Perfect Drug The Fragile The Day The World Went Away We're In This Together The Fragile The Frail/The Wretched Somewhat Damaged The Great Below - - Into The Void Where Is Everybody The Big Comedown Underneath It All Still And All That Could've Been The Becoming (Still version) With Teeth All The Love In The World Every Day Is Exactly The Same Only The Line Begins To Blur Right Where It Belongs |

That song got me into NIN. |
Why isn't March of the Pigs on the editted one? That song got me into NIN.
Everyone raves about that song, but it's not one of my favorites to be honest. I don't know why, it seems to generally be a fan favorite. I just love The Becoming, so I wanted it on there and it seemed like March was the best one to take off. |

Yeah, I think MOTP is a great song. |
You don't like Beside You In Time off of With Teeth?
|

It's not one of my favorites either, just that it sucked me into NIN almost immedietly. |
You don't like Beside You In Time off of With Teeth?
Like I said, I probably forgot something. Now that you mention it, I think that should definately be on the list. |
Do you think I should add an instrumental off of Still, Adrift and At Peace is awesome.
err... could someone give me some info on this...
http://www.9inchnails.com/discography/albums.php?id=837
I posted a brief discription of what it's suppose to be a couple pages back...i'm not too sure about it though...i got the information off of www.theninhotline.com Edit: I just found the post... I'm not too sure if it's an official release or not (if it is, then this would be halo 20) but according to the NIN hotline it contains: "[The DVD contains a] Body of Work section identical to the one on TDS Dualdisc, but updated with Halo 18 and 19. Then there's the featurette. From the descriptions I read of the listening parties, this is what was played on screens at those. The opening is clips from various NIN videos, then it plays clips of every NIN video, Woodstock '94, Closure, AATCHB, etc, all in chronological order, opened by titles like "[1989]" and "THE_PERFECT_DRUG." The quality looks and sounds pretty much flawless. The length of this entire deal is probably under half an hour. " I saw this dvd on ebay a couple days ago selling for about $99..but then I read somewhere that the dvd is going to come with some magazines, bundled with some video games, and given out at clubs...and well, NIN.com is giving it out for free... *hopes to get it in the mail* |
*hopes to get it in the mail*
So you go to the site and like order it for free? That would be pretty cool... |
They're giving it away with a certain game at Game Stop stores. Just go down to your local store, ask for it, and if you get someone cool, they'll give it to you for free. I got three copies.
DO NOT buy it from Ebay, or anywhere else. |
Gasp..... no La Mer or Just Like You Imagined :(
Cries in the corner...
God dammit, I can't win with this. Just Like You Imagined is a must. Thanks for reminding me of that, it's one of my favorite songs of all time. |

Does anyone here know if there's going to be a tour? or if so where I could get details. I got told NIN might be coming to Australia in August :D
|
That means..NIN might come to NZ!...before Australia! (It's just how it is.) But I'll never forget when Korn said they'd come to NZ...then they missed us and went straight to Aus. Fagets....pun...he..he.
|
Those are the dates so far as on http://www.nin.com/tour I'm missing them in the UK as I'm on holiday abroad when they're playing. :upset: Hopefully they'll be back sooner rather than later, as I absolutely have to see them live just for their crazily energetic live show.
After this current tour, they'll be coming back around (at least in the US, not sure you about you UKers, though.) They'll be announcing the dates sometime in June, I believe, so keep watching it. |
Hello guys. I have some questions about NIN:
first of all, I have the fragile CD. I bought it like 3-4 years ago, and never actually "listened" to it. So Based on Keeth's list I can start actually listening to it, but I need some more feedback on this one, I like some tracks, but It really freaked me out, for some reason.... On another note, I'm looking for NIN videos, And I remember only two that I want to watch: the first one is an instrumental, and it's about a journey through the sewer to some guys mouth. The other one is the video in which there's a man eating meat, and it's full of flies...That's all I remember about those. Help is very welcome. Thanks. |

Thanks.
I don't really understand your question about The Fragile. It's my personal favorite NIN CD, and to me is a true masterpiece. You should sit down and listen all the way through it, and you'll probably appreciate it more. A lot of newer NIN fans like the Left disc better, which I do as well, but the Right disc has plenty of hidden gems. Just let yourself imagine what images are being painted by the sound. It's a really layered, huge album that focuses on soundscapes and ambience, so allow yourself to listen to it in that mindframe. Videos...both the videos you described are from the EP, Broken. If you're a fan of the harder NIN stuff, then you'll love that disc. It's short, but it's full of really heavy material and has become a fan-favorite. I belive that the specific videos are for the songs "Pinion" and perhaps "Help Me I Am In Hell," but I'm not completely sure, as I haven't watched those videos in a long time. There's a VHS called Closure that will be released on DVD soon, and it has all the NIN videos, including the ones you're talking about. I've seen it available at Hollywood Video and Blockbuster, so you could probably track it down and rent it at one of those places. Also you can find most NIN videos at http://www.nin.com/visuals/index.html, so check around in there for songs you're interested in. |
The NIN videos have always been cool.
Happiness In Slavery was a bit... well, see for yourself. |
Wow, I'm surprised how fresh the new NIN sounds. I just got it today. I love the disco beat in Only. Also Beside You In Time is briliant.

Broken is my least favorite NIN release, though. My favorite NIN videos are Perfect Drug, Hurt, and Closer.
Wow, I'm surprised how fresh the new NIN sounds. I just got it today. I've always loved it, but I just listened to it today and I was ecstatic afterwards. The ending stretch of the CD is absolutely great. It's a very cohesive record, and significantly more linear than the Fragile, but not in a bad way. The freshness is accounted for because of a style change, basically the more live-sounding drums and less layering, although there's plenty to be discovered as I learned with the 5.1 mix. |

Is it even him on the recording? I've always been confused on that. |

For PHM and Broken, he used a drum machine, but on The Downward Spiral and The Fragile, he came up with the beats, but had a professional drummer play them. He would take the live, raw recordings and loop the parts he wanted and run them through a synth to give them different sounds. On With Teeth, Dave Grohl played drums on several of the tracks and, by the sound of it, it's more of a raw, live drum sound and not looped or synth-ed. I prefer "Trent-style" drums, but it makes for an interesting percussion section on With Teeth. Still, there's a lot of percussive sounds that he did himself, and I think used a drum machine for. |
What about the other instruments?
|
What about the other instruments?
As far as I know, Trent plays guitar and bass on most of the songs. He does all the keyboards and synths, mixing, and a lot of production as well. He also puts in samples and all that good stuff. |
Did Jeordie White do any of the bass recording for WT?
And I know that another guitarist contributed to TF. Danny Lohner, I think. |

I never knew Manson sung the chorus with Trent on 'Gave Up'. In the video it has Trent, the band and Manson all playing the song, and Manson has no make-up. Back in his 'Sweet Dreams' days when he was a rr000ckka...not a shock rr000ckka.

Although he doesn't actually play guitar on it, and he looks pretty awkward in that video. Richard Patrick is also in that video, who was NIN's touring guitarist in the early days, and who is now the frontman/writer of Filter. |

I love how Marilyn Manson plays a guitar in the video for Personal Jesus. He said himself that he doesn't play and that he only played it because it looked good. I thought it was funny. |
Yep, he's a bit of a poseur, I think.
