Hey Badmoon is Phil Lesh and Freinds any good?
The first album by them is pretty good, but the second one (There & Back Again) is one of my favorite albums.

DeusExMachina 12-25-2004 01:26 PM

I've never heard of Phil Lesh and Friends... :upset: What kind of music are they?

Walrus Gumboot 12-25-2004 02:58 PM

WAR IS OVER

(If you want it)

Happy Christmas from John and Yoko

...and me

Matty89 12-25-2004 03:39 PM

The beatles are highly overrated. They are more of a boy band than an actual rock band in my opinion.

Matty89 12-25-2004 03:40 PM

I don't hate them or anything, I just think overrated.

Illmatic 12-25-2004 04:04 PM

More of a boy band?

Stupid noob.

DeusExMachina 12-25-2004 04:38 PM

Matty89, out of curiousity, how much of their stuff have you actually heard? Their later stuff is incredibly avant garde.

I got John Lennon: The Unseen Archives for Christmas. It's beyond awesome.

Illmatic 12-25-2004 04:39 PM

I bet he heard "I Want To Hold Your Hand", "She Loves You", and "Yellow Submarine" and nothing beyond that.

DeusExMachina 12-25-2004 05:00 PM

I don't doubt it. I know some people who don't like them, but I have never heard anyone pull out the "boy band" argument who had actually heard the full gamit of their material.

Badmoon 12-25-2004 05:11 PM
I've never heard of Phil Lesh and Friends... :upset: What kind of music are they?
Phil Lesh was the bassist of The Grateful Dead. His second recruiting featured Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, Rob Barraco, and John Molo. That may not seem like much to you, but if you know how big of a role they played in the "Jam Band" scene, and how talented they were, you would care.

groomits 12-25-2004 05:21 PM

The Beatles were the greatest rock band of all time. and its not my opinion, its just true. They were pionneers in music world. They were not always number one for nothing. They have talent, Jonh Lennon is one of the greatest song writer of all time.

Their music was nothing complicated for us now, but they were using all kind of musical instrument. Basic electric guitare to indian sitar and with some violin, trumpet, saxophone, etc . Just think that if the beatles had never decided to form a band, we would be hearing old Elvis rock and roll now.

Hey, those are classic Beatles tunes, not the best but still classic

Walrus Gumboot 12-25-2004 07:42 PM

The Beatles actually killed the boy bands of the 50's, they died out (until their re-emergance in the 80's) Pretty boys who got off on pretty faces but could play/write anything just couldn't keep up

I never realized how good Phil Lesh was until I tried to figure out how to play Friend of the Devil on bass... but that's how it goes

I got the Lennon Legend DVD  <<lennon smiley

I don't know too much about jam bands... but I really like them.

I agree. Next time I listen to Yer Blues, I'll keep on thinking they're a boy band. So much similar to Out of Sync. You should try hearing that song too, the similarities are too close.

/me is very amused. He was being sarcastic. Seafroggys is one of the biggest posters in this thread. Relax.

Firecracker 12-26-2004 11:21 AM

funny joke on the young ones:

buddy holly is hanging upsidedown in their new house, in one of the bedrooms
buddy: i sure do like your english beatles, but when that's all you've had for ten years, you kinda get used to it.
buddy eats a beetle

DeusExMachina 12-26-2004 11:50 AM

Heh. There was a funny joke in an episode of the Simpsons that I saw in my government class, but no one got it... made me sad (it has no relation to the Beatles, but I just thought I'd share.)

So, the senator has a heart attack, and Marge says "quick, someone perform CPR!" And Homer says "uh... there's uh... a bad moon on the rise..." and Marge is like "NO! thats CCR!!!" Cracked me up. I dunno, no one else thought it was funny. Maybe I'm just weird. I think its just because they have crappy taste in music though.

Walrus Gumboot 12-26-2004 01:44 PM

haha... maybe its us that have bad taste....

nope.

I was watching a simpsons and it had a spoof on the Hard Day's Night cover with the simpsons instead of the Beatles

Hobopak117 12-26-2004 03:01 PM

Cool

I think that the white akbum is one of the greatest beatle records along with abbey road, revolver, and yellow submarine. Did anyone know that Happiness is a Warm Gun and Helter Skelter made Charles Manson crazed and go on that famous killing spree

I don't think anybody ever knew that.

BludgeonySteve 12-26-2004 10:32 PM

Was that sarcasm? It's so hard to tell on the internet :(

John Lennon 12-26-2004 10:43 PM

It is sarcasm, but without needed emoticons

BludgeonySteve 12-26-2004 10:49 PM

Yeah, I mean cmon -----> is very useful.

John Lennon 12-26-2004 10:52 PM

BTW, before I hit the sack, my post was #910...the one after ;)
Good Night

DeusExMachina 12-26-2004 11:22 PM

Beatles Anthology is the best Beatles book I've ever read.

johnnygoosecock 12-27-2004 05:42 AM

yeah the anthology was a great book.....the dvds were also great

funk_rock_jazz_drummer 12-27-2004 06:22 AM

Is it worth it to drop 80 bucks for the beatles anthology DVD's?

Metafive 12-27-2004 11:03 AM

I have the Beatles Anthologies, and they are pretty sweet, they were worth the money I paid, which was only $45 so I don't know what's up with your 80 bucks DVDs, maybe I got it on sale or something. Anyways question, I'm looking to buy a book of sheet music for Beatles songs, I have called Beatlemania 1967-1970 Vol. 2, but I noticed a lot of the notes are just wrong, so if any of you know a good book let me know, I must buyyyyyy.

DeusExMachina 12-27-2004 02:24 PM

Not sure. But, you could always get guitar music for free with powertabs.

Walrus Gumboot 12-27-2004 03:02 PM

mmm libraries are good

Do any of the music books have bas/guitar chords/drum music/ other instrument/2nd guitar stuff? I can only find piano...which is crap

I don't know, but you can definitely find bass and other string instruments as power tabs.

wally5790 12-27-2004 06:16 PM
