Just move stuff around and experiment with octave chorts, invent your own!!

tornpictures 01-25-2005 12:26 PM
Not enough to really study. I study techniques that find in tabs so I can figure out patterns and chords and such so I can learn taht style of music better and I want to start playing some emo, or at least encorpporating it's style into my own stuff.
(Way to post four times in a row!!)

If you want to play emo, go 'study' some Indian Summer. Not hard to play. Not hard to imitate.

Now, what you're trying here is great and stuff, but it's not really helping music evolve, is it?

This is why there are 43278947892 bands right now that all sound the same. Try something new.

tornpictures 01-25-2005 03:37 PM

Yeaaaaahhhh!

EvIL_ToASTER_OVEN 01-25-2005 07:16 PM

 I just listened to Hot Cross for the first time ever. I'm impressed.

cbmartinez 01-25-2005 07:17 PM

Hot Cross is incredible.
Hot Cross is incredible.
I've only just came across them now. Is that the Saetia vocalist I hear?

cbmartinez 01-25-2005 07:21 PM

Yup, pretty sure. I found out there from around my area also. They played here recently actually.

EvIL_ToASTER_OVEN 01-25-2005 07:21 PM
Yup, pretty sure. I found out there from around my area also. They played here recently actually.
I must look into buying something of theirs.

Happymeal 01-25-2005 07:30 PM

I heard their EP's are better than the LP. But then I've only listened to A New Set of Lungs and a couple of other songs.

EvIL_ToASTER_OVEN 01-25-2005 07:31 PM

I'm totally digging them. I love how the guitars harmonize so well.

BuddyBigsby 01-25-2005 07:37 PM

Singer and drummer are from Saetia. Then the other members have done time in Neil Perry, The Now, You and I, and a couple others.

Frederoni 01-25-2005 07:37 PM
I like them but they're not screamo or emo.
Actually, Underoath is Screamo, if not, what are they? I also like Moneen and Alexisonfire. I like Atreyu, but they are Metalcore with Emo lyrics.

BuddyBigsby 01-25-2005 07:40 PM

They're not screamo. I personally don't feel the need to argue this with someone with an Atreyu avatar, so I'm not going to. If you want reasoning, you can read pretty much any page in this thread, as we've argued this dead.

Frederoni 01-25-2005 07:45 PM

What's so bad about Atreyu?

chips88 01-25-2005 08:01 PM
What's so bad about Atreyu?
Nothing, it's just you should read some of the other pages of this thread, we've gone over this a million times

Frederoni 01-25-2005 08:03 PM

Aha, I never said Atreyu was emo, they are metalcore at it's best, I said that Underoath is screamo, that's all.

40 oz 2 freedom 01-25-2005 08:26 PM

If you really wanna get technical, Atreyu could barely even pass as metalcore.

Special Brew 01-25-2005 08:27 PM

You said they had emo lyrics, and they don't emo lyrics are very confusing nut very personal.

BuddyBigsby 01-25-2005 09:57 PM
they are metalcore at it's best
Whoa, dude. You really, really need to listen to more metalcore.

Special Brew 01-25-2005 10:37 PM

Also, what do you mean by open chords? Is that normal chords?

srt-4 01-26-2005 12:07 AM
I heard their EP's are better than the LP. But then I've only listened to A New Set of Lungs and a couple of other songs.
i listen to cryonics, fair trades and farewells, and a new set of lungs all the time. and its all just personal preference, but to me i think cryonics is just as amazing as their other stuff.

and like buddybigsby already answered, the singer is from saetia. i'm sure he is so sick of talking about saetia though. its too bad, because when i got to meet him, i would have really liked to ask a little about saetia, but thought that he probably didn't want to talk about it.

BuddyBigsby 01-26-2005 01:47 AM

When I saw Hot Cross a few months ago, I asked their merch guy if they had the Saetia Retrospective, because I couldn't find it in the distro. He said they had sold out, but I was able to buy it from another band's distro.

When it was Hot Cross' time to play, the dude I thought was the merch guy gets on stage and starts singing.

:) Thats awesome, lol

Where do you guys live? I know there is nothing even remotely similar to emo around here, I live in a redneck-ruled area that has no music scene. Heh. But I am willing to travel a good distance to see bands I like.

BuddyBigsby 01-26-2005 02:53 AM

Orange County area in Southern California. The emo scene here is really really small, from what I've garnered in my experiences at least.

Sep 01-26-2005 03:33 AM
 I just listened to Hot Cross for the first time ever. I'm impressed.
Hot Cross are pretty good. Especially 'Throw Collars To The Wind'. But the whole new EP is pretty darn good.

I always thought they had the guitarists from Saetia. I never realized it was just the drummer and the singer.

I only really dig A New Set of Lungs and the split 7"s.

Billy's kind of tired of being 'that dude from Saetia', yeah.. but ask him whatever you like. He'll answer.
We used to joke about Saetia reunion shows all the time and the kids were like "WHAT? WHERE? WHEN?!?!"
It was great.

It's also funny that they've become one of those post-humous hype bands. There were only like 40 kids at their last show.

I saw Hot Cross a couple times when I was in the USA last and it was SO ****ing weird to see Billy all tatoo'ed up and ****. Super nice guy, seriously. One of the most genuine and sincere people in hardcore.

Try travelling around a little.

Bakersfield have a couple great bands.

_Alexisonfire_ 01-26-2005 08:27 AM

Just not to be confused, the term "emo" is orginially a short form for emotional hardcore, or just emotional? Because It's hard work to learn to people that Taking Back Sunday ( among other bands, but I think TBS is the band most people think is real emo around here ) is NOT a pure emo band in any way. I always thought emo meant emotional hardcore but then fourfa.com confused me because it has two separate types of music: emo, and emocore. Could anyone clear that up for me?

Could someone describe to me explicitely what "hardcore" is. ( I'm a noob looking for re-education :upset: ) So I can educate myself. There's this wannabe emo guy who thinks The Hurt Process , Saosin and Funeral For a Friend are emo and I can't wait to hit him with some fresh reality.

tornpictures 01-26-2005 12:37 PM
LIke I asked earlier, what band were you in?
Reach Out.

You might have heard of us??

Figures. Bakersfield doesn't have much else going for them. Does San Diego still have a scene at all do you know?

I haven't been down there in quite a while.

The Pine are a great Bakersfield band.. www.geocities.com/thepinepage

Funeral Diner are from down there somewhere, I think. (or are they more SF, Bay Area?).

Anyway, Gravity Records, maybe some GSL stuff?

BuddyBigsby 01-26-2005 02:29 PM

I think FD are bay area.

BuddyBigsby 01-26-2005 02:50 PM

torn, was the split with Honeywell one song for each band? Because I found something of yours off that split, but its just titled "Reach Out (Split 7" with Honeywell)" and it's one song, but its 5 minutes so just having that one song would make sense. And does it have a title? Either way, it's really fucking good.

cbmartinez 01-26-2005 04:25 PM

I don't like new Hot Cross EP. I like Cryonics a whole bunch though.

Special Brew 01-27-2005 05:55 AM

Is ATDI emo? They seem a little different, but I think they can still be classified as emo. Not sure though.

Two songs!!

Gadfly and Message To. (I didn't make up the titles.)

Thanks alot dude man!!

Yeah, Funeral Diner are ****ing AWESOME live.
They don't really have to thrash around to make their live act awesome.

We thrashed around too much.

Wow 01-27-2005 12:51 PM

I downloaded three songs by a band called Reach Out. If it's your band then goddamn you guys kicked total ass.

tornpictures 01-27-2005 01:34 PM

cbmartinez 01-27-2005 01:35 PM
