ive been listening to the faint alot, are there any good bands similar to them?

Dreamer 09-03-2004 03:49 PM

Lately I've been listening to Xiu Xiu... very very good band... also, a good Canadian band, The Unicorns, have an awesome new album out. :)

Tangy zizzle 09-03-2004 08:28 PM
Indeed they are, I am still looking for either of their albums.

Does anyone think that Gallowsbird's Park is better than Blueberry Boat? Cause they have one of them at my local cd store, and I can't even remember which one it is come to think of it.
Blueberry Boat > Gallowsbird's Bark. No contest.

cbmartinez 09-03-2004 09:32 PM

I'm totally digging that Killers song, "Somebody Told Me."

Jellyspoon 09-04-2004 10:05 AM

I think 'Mr. Brightside' is miles better than 'somebody told me'

i heard 'bitter Cold' by Supermachiner, and really like it, has anyone else heard their stuff? it's a Converge side-project essentially. Is it any good?

It got a crap write up in the paper yesterday though. Not that I trust such things, but what do you think they didn't like?

asymm 09-04-2004 02:38 PM

Picked up these LPs yesterday and I've been digging them:

Guided By Voices - "Half Smiles of the Decomposed"
Mclusky - "The Difference Between Me And You Is That I'm Not On Fire"
Black Dice - "Creature Comforts"

and I'm still fucking digging Blueberry Boat... I've been digging it since I bought it on it's release date (July 13).. PLUS! I'm seeing them live this Friday in Chicago...

Luxor 09-04-2004 03:01 PM

I've basically been rotating between Elliot Smith - Either/Or and Jeff Buckley - Grace (Legacy Edirion).

So much talk about Blueberry Boat... I don't even know what band that is.

asymm 09-04-2004 03:17 PM

Band: The Fiery Furnaces
Album: Blueberry Boat

Liquid Tension Experiment 2 is so beautiful.. I just bought it a while ago:p I've been thinking about picking up Medulla. Is it any good??

br3ad_man 09-04-2004 08:07 PM

I've downloaded it and I really like it.

Happymeal 09-04-2004 09:00 PM

I think I'll just download it too.. I really have to save for Live At Sin-e.. The cheapest here is $32.99..darn

br3ad_man 09-04-2004 09:07 PM

Yeah, I don't think I'd buy it. I'll listen to it a few more times and then probably delete it,

Happymeal 09-04-2004 09:20 PM

Even if I go on cd shopping sprees every once in a while, I wouldn't buy cd's I won't listen to for a long time even if people tell me they're good(and they're pretty expensive too). Besides, I love mix tape cd's(if there's such a thing).. hehe.. I'm really enjoying Kind Of Like Spitting's Nothing Makes Sense Without It.. It's a very "can relate to" album, and you probably won't like it if you're not a bit sappy like me.:p

I'm really digging "Amnesiac" today. I think it might overtake Kid A as my favourite album ever some day.

Zappa 09-05-2004 03:46 PM

I just got "The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads," a killer 2-CD live album. Over 2 and a half hours of the band playing live in '77, '78, '79, '80, and '81. It's amazing stuff.

I also just got Mike Watt's "The Secondman's Middle Stand" which is an incredible album.

I highly recommend both.

Tangy zizzle 09-05-2004 03:49 PM

Is that the new Mike Watt? I really wanna hear it. What's it like?

Zappa 09-05-2004 03:59 PM

It's got a lot of elements of progressive rock. The instrumentation is just bass, drums, b3 organ, and voice, so that should give you an idea of what the overall timbre of the recording is. The bass occasionally sounds like a guitar. The songs are basically all great, with memorable melodies and interesting instrumental parts parts surrounding them.

Tangy zizzle 09-05-2004 04:08 PM

I'll give it a listen. Sounds nice.

biografiend 09-05-2004 04:19 PM

british sea power have grown on me. great band.

Tapeworm 09-05-2004 04:57 PM
So, someone just sent me Zombie by The Cranberries over Litnin's new multimedia sharing system, and I was blown away by it. Is any of their other stuff good, and can you guys reccomend me some? Thanks.
Most of The Cranberries stuff is incredibly good, I've been meaning to buy an album for a while. I can't really recommend anything particular though..
