If someone wants some "good straight-up late 80's/early 90's death metal", I think he'll enjoy that kind of stuff (because everyone knows the american bands of this era : morbid angel, Death, blablabla and I find the european bands sound a little bit nastier).
I'm not all too familiar with the genre as a whole, i've heard some Death (Individual Thought Patterns) and liked it so I should probably get some more. I've only heard one Morbid Angel song and can't remember it. I'll still check those artists out though, thanks. |
Well, the 3 last Death album are excellent (my fav) but the firsts are more death metal and less "melodic progressive thrash/death".
But for Morbid Angel you should check at least "Altars of Madness" (full of hits : "Chapel of Ghouls", "Maze of Torment", "Immortal Rites", "Lord of All Fever and Plague" etc) and "Domination" (which is very important in the history of death metal IMO). |
Will do, cheers.

Death - Human is great. b/c it has sean reinarttttttt
The only good grind bands are Napalm Death, Terrorizer, and Brutal Truth.
shut up, don't like you
I could use some good straight-up late 80's/early 90's death metal, in the vein of Possessed's Seven Churches or Napalm Death's Harmony Corruption.
I find Morbid Angel kind of boring. Check out Incantation's Onward to Golgotha tho |

nastier? i find the swedish and finnish stuff much more melodic. don't have anything against the bands though; dismember, demigod, demilich, etc are some of my favourite bands. |

Hum... More melodic than Death ? Hell, no ! Where is the melody on "Into the Grave" ? It depends on the band. Dismember is some time more melodic than morbid angel (check "Silent are the Watchers" for exemple) but can be very brutal too (maybe more than MA)... Just hear "Skin Her Alive", "Soon to be Dead" or "Trendkiller" (yeah, I'm a huge Dismember fan) ! And I've said "nastier" because the american guitar sound is generaly clean (Morbid Angel and Death are good exemples... Incantation and Immolation are exceptions :)), that's not the case for the swedish sound which is more dirty and "crunchy" (I don't speak about "fake" death metal like Dark Tranquillity or In Flames). |
yea i'm a huge dismember fan too, they aren't that brutal, but i know what you are trying to say.
|
They aren't brutal like some bands labeled "brutal death metal" like Immolation, Suffocation or Vital Remains, they are brutal just like Slayer, Kreator, Demolition Hammer or that kind of stuff because there is a lot of fast paced song with "slayer beats"... You know... snare-kick-snare-kick (but you've understand ;) ).

I need some stuff similar to Converge and Coliseum.... any recs?

I've never heard Coliseum (what are they like?) but I would have to recommend Today is the Day. |
Similar to Coliseum:
Black Cross Lords Akimbo Victims |
What's Akimbo's best album Txus?
|
I dunno, most of them are really good. I'd say Navigating the Bronze or Jersey Shores
|
You know any stuff similar to Converge man?
|
I guess you already know the obvious ones (Botch, Curl up and die, daughters) have you heard the hope conspiracy? or maybe some girls?
i dunno, there's nothing like converge in my ears. |
Any album that sounds similar to Rome's Flowers From Exile?
Been playing that one a lot lately. The other Rome albums don't seem to really grow on me. I need something that sounds akin to Flowers From Exile, if that exists. |

check out doomriders, kurt from converge is in it. they're a more southern style, but it's still awesome. they also did a split with coliseum. speaking of which, anyone know any bands similar to doomriders? |
New Doomriders will rule.
and check out Akimbo. |
just did, they're wicked good. thanks
|
No problem
|
anything like burst? I'm looking more to the max on any element while still having the same general influences...aka more proggy and/or sludgy yet till with the harcore/metal element...
Also bands with good loud/soft dynamics...don't really care about the genre as long as it has some degree of heaviness/technical skill... |
