Dr. Jake Destructo 12-24-2006 12:21 AM

In other news, I am listening to Do Make Say Think for the first time.

Opinions?

Txus 12-24-2006 12:23 AM

Good band. Nothing new, but a fun listen.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-24-2006 12:24 AM

The songs are really hit/miss for me right now. They're all very poppy..erm happy, which isn't something I often find in post rock, but it's decent stuff. Very eclectic instrumentation as well.

Txus 12-24-2006 12:28 AM

I don't like "happy" post rock but they are one of the few bands that I dig. Are you listening to the album that was sent in the DU?

Kage 12-24-2006 12:28 AM

Jesu's self-titled is one hell of an album.

Txus 12-24-2006 12:30 AM

I like the Silver EP 1000 times more than the S/T.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-24-2006 12:31 AM

You, You're a History in Rust is what I'm listening to Tux. I think I got it from the DU.

Kage, how's it compare to their new one? I could enjoy their sound, but that album sounds somewhat forced or something..It's not quite clicking with me.

Txus 12-24-2006 12:36 AM

I don't like that album that much, Jak.

It's darker and dronier and less melodic and more dense I suppose. But it's the same general concept I think in terms of sound.

LF96 12-24-2006 07:58 AM

DMST's new album has leaked? I'd like to hear that one and I don't have the DU. If anyone would like to send it to me that'd be greatly appreciated: mcemmer at hotmail.com :)

"winter hymn" is one of my favouritest peices of music ever.

I like them very much. They're weird in that you can't just say "the early stuff is ~~~ and the later stuff is ~~~", all the albums are a bit of a mix. I really like it tho.

ATM 12-24-2006 10:54 AM

They are really good. I prefer & Yet & Yet to the new one, though.

AA-12 12-24-2006 10:55 AM

I have to say something.

Sigur Ros - ( ) is total masterpiece.

The first track is just perfection in music.

ATM 12-24-2006 11:01 AM

Have you heard Takk?

AA-12 12-24-2006 11:21 AM

Yeah, I dislike it.

I agree.

I don't particularly like Takk, but it's by no means bad.

Kage 12-24-2006 11:36 AM

I've become bored of Sigur Ros' ( ). At first I was in love with it but I rarely even listen to it anymore.

AA-12 12-24-2006 11:37 AM

I've listened to it every night for years.

Sleepy 12-24-2006 11:40 AM

Josh, you've put in the mood for some ().

NP - Track 1

Pelican's website:

"NEW ALBUM IN 2007! Five days from now we will ensconce ourselves in Chicago's Electrical Audio Studios for 11 days of intense concentration and furious rocking. The album will be engineered by none other than Andrew Schneider, the villain behind this years' prime offender Hell Songs by the Daughters, last years' jaw dropper Perfect Pitch Black by Cave In, and the previous years' Summer bar fight soundtrack Subject to Change Without Notice by fellow Midwesterners Keelhaul. In other words, Andrew's credentials are apparently unsullied (yet) and the album is predicted to have a throttling impact worthy of the ragers we've constructed for it.

People who made it out to see us on our West Coast/Canadian jaunt with Daughters had the opportunity to preview four of the new tunes, "City of Echoes", "Bliss in Concrete", "Dead Between the Walls", and "Spaceship Broken - Parts Needed". The good news is that these songs only began to scratch the surface - there's a whole six more songs in the reserves that hadn't yet made it to the live performance stage. On a whole the songs are more concise and more aggressive than our prior work. Relentless repetition has taken a backseat to intensity and a desire to pack as many riffs as possible into each tune.

The album is currently slated for a May release on Hydrahead Records. People can, of course, expect us to tour before and after that time. "

Kage 12-24-2006 11:49 AM

Sounds awesome. I know Pelican won't let us down on any account.

I heard them play one of the new tunes a while back; I would call it much more optimistic than anything else they've done, but hardly more aggressive. I can't wait to hear the rest of it, in any case. A full of album of Pelican intensity will be orgasmic I'm sure.

Spaceship Broken - Parts Needed  Awesome title.

Mmmm, it's got nothing on Track 6.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-24-2006 01:44 PM

Takk.. > ()

I seem to be quite alone in this opinion.

Kage 12-24-2006 01:47 PM

I think it depends on how arty you are.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-24-2006 01:50 PM

I wouldn't consider either to be among my favorite albums though, so whatev.

Kage 12-24-2006 01:54 PM

I've definitely gone off of Sigur Ros since I first got into them. They're alright.

Although their song on the trailer of the movie Children of Men is really awesome.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-24-2006 01:57 PM

I've heard them on TV a few times. It's the only time that I really get giddy over hearing Sigur Rós. It seems novel for some reason?

Once, I also heard Same Ol' Road and Wedding Nails on the same half hour of an MTV show. It was bizzare.

Kage 12-24-2006 02:00 PM

I don't think that's such a good sign.

There's a chance that Porcupine Tree will hit it big with their next album, I think.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-24-2006 02:24 PM

Well, Lazarus made it onto the UK's equivilant to Now That's What I Call Music. Something similar at least..

TojesDolan 12-24-2006 03:02 PM

Wait was that MTV2 or regular MTV?

If it was the latter, we should begin to feel scared. :/

I used to like MTV.
