[B]Black Clouds And Underdogs Tour[/B]

So, tonight I went to see the Black Clous and Underdogs tour featuring October Fall, From First To Last, Hawthorne Heights, All-American Rejects, and Fall Out Boy.

[B]October Fall[/B]
These guys only played five song, but they were really good. I picked up their album a couple months ago, so I knew all the songs they played. Unfortunately, I think I was one of the few people who did. Most people seemed to have not a clue who they were. :-\

[B]From First To Last[/B]
They were easily the worst band of the night. The sound for their set was really poor, and I could hardly hear Sonny at all. They played three olds songs, and four new. I didn't know the new songs as I've only listened to the new album twice. The three old songs, "Note To Self", "The One-Armed Boxer vs The Flying Guillotine", and "Ride the Wings of Pestilence", were alright, but I couldn't really follow them due to the fact that I wasn't able to hear Sonny.

Definitely a disppointment. They were much better last time I saw them, if only because I could hear them.

[B]Hawthorne Heights[/B]
Awesome as always. This was my sixth time seeing them, and they were great. They played a good mix of old and new songs, and for the first time all night, the crowd actually got into it a bit.

[B]All-American Rejects[/B]
Amazing. I was surprised at how good they were. They played an awesome selection of songs, and, being a radio band, were finally able to get full participation from the crowd.

[B]Fall Out Boy[/B]
These guys were amazing as well. Their stage setup was pretty insane. They had pyrotechnics and everything. They played pretty much every song I wanted to hear, and a couple that I didn't really know (off of [I]Fall Out Boy's Evening Out...[/I], I'm guessing). They opened with "Our Lawyers Made Us...", and ended with "Dance, Dance" and "Saturday".

About half way through their set, this guy came out and had two girls come on stage. He then said something about how they were going to hit wiffle balls off his head, which they did. It was really weird, and totally pointless, but amusing.

Overall, this show was a lot of fun. The only downside was that it was an arena show, but it really had to be.

Arena shows are definately not as fun.

Sounds like a good time. Too bad about FFTL because they were fun live when I saw them.

Wow, I've only been listening to them for a couple months at best.

I read about October Fall in an AP issue and have been listening to them for a while, I like them, I would enjoy seeing them live. I don't like AAR, and FOB would have been a lot of fun. I was going to go to this tour but I'm glad I went to Truckstops and Statelines instead. Still sounds like a great time minus the fact that it was an arena show, that does suck.

I don't know if this fits in the Pop-punk forum, but I just saw Dashboard Confessional this past saturday. It was a great show, especially because I was as close to the stage as you could get. The John Ralston Band opened, and they were good, but got boring quick, because no one knew the songs. There was a long wait between their set and Dashboard's, but it was worth it. I didn't notice at first, but during John Ralston's set, Chris Carrabba was standing off in the back, playing lead guitar for them. Also, Dan Bonebrake, Dashboard's former bassist, was there as well, playing for John Ralston.

It was labeled as a solo acoustic show, but Johnny Lefler was there, as well as a girl named Susan, who played the violin. Dashboard played about 20 songs, with 4 being off of A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar. They also played a song off their new album, which comes out June 26. They did covers of a Radiohead song, and a song off of The O.C. After he left the stage, everyone started chanting "en-core, en-core!", so he came back out and played the Best Deceptions, followed by Vindicated, with everyone from both bands playing. Then, they left, but everyone started chanting "Hands Down!", so he came out yet a second time with everybody, and played Hands Down. Vindicated and Hands Down were probably the two best songs of the performance. Overall, an excellent show.

I dislike A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar greatly but I love anything before that. My girlfriend's step sister went to that show exact same show, on that night. Kinda cool.

On Sunday night i saw the Bouncing Souls for the fourth time at the garage. This was probably the best time yet, although they will not play Manthem in England!

The songs they played from their upcoming record (The Gold Record- 6/6/06) sounded amazing, especially the Gold Song

i've seen DKM 3 times and to be honest i've never found them too too good. But then again i've always thought on CD they were very overrated

Awesome local band. I've seen them three times, and they've always been great. All the national acts praised them.

Local. The only reason they were on the show is because one band dropped due to illness. Anyway, these guys were okay, but they didn't fit the show at all. They were a ska band. :p

[B]One Dead Three Wounded[/B]
I've never really listened to these guys before, but they were so awesome. Argusbly the best band of the night.

[B]Underminded[/B]
This was the band I was there to see, and they didn't disappoint. They only played like 7 songs, but they were awesome. They closed their set with "It's Kinda Like A Bodybag", my favorite Underminded song.

[B]Folly[/B]
I'd never listened to these guys prior to last night either, but they were quite good. They were kind of unique in that some of their riffs sounded ska-influenced, even though the rest of the time they were just an awesome metalcore (kind of) band, with some really sweet screams. Either way, really good.

edit - This was my 100th show, and Folly was the 300th different band I've seen. :D

Tonight I went to see the Take Action Tour featuring Roses Are Red, Amber Pacific, Chiodos, The Early November, and Matchbook Romance.

[B]Roses Are Red[/B]
I listen to these guys from time to time. Their set was pretty good, even though they only played like 6 songs, and not that many people seemed to know who they were.

[B]Amber Pacific[/B]
I LOVE this band. They were amazing, and played an awesome set. I ended up buying a t-shirt*, and [I]The Pssibility And The Promise[/I] after they played.

*I now have two Amber Pacific t-shirts, but $20 seemed like a pretty good deal for a shirt and a CD, so I figured "why not". Plus, the t-shirt is sweet looking. :p

[B]Chiodos[/B]
I have come to a conclusion that every scenester on the planet loves this band. There were some many people who were just there to see these guys, it was crazy. Also, their fans have no idea what they're doing. People were hardcore-dancing the whole set, even though there were only a few breakdowns, so that was pretty lame.

But, Chiodos wasn't bad, but I'm not a huge fan of them. I like the EP I have by them, but the album I have isn't great. Either way, they played a surprisingly good set.

[B]The Early November[/B]
Well, I'm pretty sure that at least two guys in this band were drunk. Aside from the fact that they pulled some pretty bizarre antics*, they didn't seem to be fully there.

They played a really good set though. They played a lot of songs I knew, and were pretty high energy.

*ex. The bassist came out in just his boxers, which ended up getting completely torn in the back. It was...um...interesting to say the least.

[B]Matchbook Romance[/B]
This was my third time seeing them, and easily the best. This show was at a smaller venue than the other times I've seen them, and they seemed more connected with the crowd. They played a good mix of old and new songs, and mixed it up between high and low energy material.

Toward the end of the set, memebers from the other four bands came on stage. A couple guys from Chiodos and TEN looked pretty drunk at thispoint, and a few guys dove off the stage. It made for a good way to end an awesome show.

[B]Give It A Name 2006 - Saturday[/B]
Since it was the only day I went to, it'll be the only one I review.

Firstly, I'll get the rubbish bands out the of the way first. [B]The Blackout[/B] and [B]Silverstein[/B] really didn't impress me much, even though I have Silverstein's latest album and thought it was OK. Their type of music isn't the best to be listening to at the beginning of the day, but I guess it was enough to hype up some of the crowd. [B]Classic Case[/B] were also not as good, but this was only because their set was too stale. I love [I]Dress To Depress[/I], but the songs were too slow and similar to get into, and there wasn't much showmanship going on either.

OK, whoever put [B]Gym Class Heroes[/B] and [B]Bayside[/B] on before Classic Case deserves to be slapped. GCH were brilliant, and a great little band to add some diversity to the festival. They played all the classics; "Taxi Driver", "Cupid's Chokehold", "Papercuts". They played a new song too which was pretty cool. Bayside were amazing as well, since their music was pretty heavy and fast, but they actually sung and didn't scream. Another good band to listen and dance to.

I missed [B]Aiden[/B] for obvious reasons, but came back just in time for [B]We Are Scientists[/B]. They are a really cool band, but tonight's performance was made worse because of the bad quality bass sound. Still, they pulled out some of their best songs, finishing with "The Great Escape", which I danced along to gladly. Keith Murray impressed me a lot as well with a fair bit of improvisation and his strong vocals.

Next was the band I came to this to see; [B]Say Anything[/B]. They hit the stage, Max acted like a cocky son of a bitch, and went straight into "Belt". Oh my God! It was pure chaos, and easily the most watched band on the side stage. While every other band whored the crap out of each other, Max actually said "We're here with a lot of crap bands, but we came to see you guys". It was funny. They ended the set of [I]...Is A Real Boy[/I] classics with "Admit It!!!" after so many requests from the crowd (Including from me). It was so cool hearing that song live, I just went mental for them. Best band of the night by my standards.

[B]Goldfinger[/B] were up next, and ran through all their most well-known hits as well, such as "Spokesman" and "Here In Your Bedroom". They played really well and showed up the crowd, even though they seemed a little out of place on a line-up like tonight's. But Brian Arthur was back, which was a good sign, and they just tore the place apart. Everyone was jumping.

In my opinion, [B]Hundred Reasons[/B] got the short end of the stick tonight. Because while the side-stage played, they set up the main stage, and vice-versa. This band were headlining the side stage, and they had to get the crowd ready for Angels And Airwaves. I was one of the many kids waiting at the main stage for this band, but the UK rockers still played very well. Colin's voice was awesome, as he screamed, shouted and sung every note well. I didn't know too many of their songs though, because I hadn't listened to their older stuff in so long.

It wasn't long after this of course, when [B]Angels And Airwaves[/B] hit the main stage. It was weird seeing Tom Delonge's band play third to last, but whatever. He was a different person on stage. Whereas at Blink-182 at the same venue 1 and a half year ago, he was quiet and not too active, he moved so much here. Some songs were just sung by him, and he was such a showman. Of course, the whole band played well though, even if their songs are a little boring (To me at least). During the set, Tom played "Down" by himself (A better cover than the original? Perhaps), and went straight into "The Adventure", and they ended the show with "The War". Decent set is all.

[B]Taking Back Sunday[/B] came on next, and were so full of energy. Adam's voice has never been that good when it comes to big live performances, but here he sang pretty well. His and Fred's voices matched well in songs like "Set Phasers To Stun" and "MakeDamnSure". They ended the set with what I thought would be "Error: Operator" (They were talking about superheroes!), but it was just "One Eighty By Summer". A pretty good set though which makes me wonder why they didn't headline. Adam's swinging antics were gone though, since he was using a cordless mic haha.

Last but certainly not least was [B]Lostprophets[/B]. I don't know how long they've been away from the tour scene, but they certainly exploded tonight. They came out to "Start Something", and Ian was just soaking it up. They played really well too, and played 3 new songs including new single "Rooftops" (Which they taught the crowd to sing along to). Llan of Fenix*TX fame was drumming with them tonight as well, which I thought was really cool, and Ian made him bust out an insane solo. I was cheering my [size=2]as[/size]s off for him by the end! They finished the night with "Shinobi Vs. Dragon Ninja", and that was the song which sent the pit wild. I barely knew what was going on!

So yeah, all in all, Saturday ruled a lot. I heard a lot about how last year's GIAN was poorly set up and everything, but this year's was really good. It was cool having both stages right next to each other, since you aren't waiting half an hour for the next band to set up. You can just watch the side stage from where you are, you don't even need to move.

Sounded good, i'm suprised Lostprophets headlined.

That sounds really awesome. Biggest dissapointment would be Adam using that cordless mic. I love watching him on stage, with the mic.

He was kinda doing his thing though. He was throwing it around and stuff, but it's not the same. I always thought TBS supporting swinging mics heh

They blew everybody out of the water, and I mean by miles. Ian was top notch as usual, amping the crowd like few frontmen can. I think the addition of Ilan Rubin was one reason they were so tight. Their sound was huge and constantly driving and the lighting was awesome. Earls Court was all floor and their was moshing and "dancing", as Ian calls it, past the sound and lighting rigs, so that's a good indication of how powerful they were. The whole place went nuts.

BTW, their new drummer only did a few shows with Fenix Tx after they kicked their drummer off a tour. Denver Harbor is the band that he was in and was also touring on the same bill so FTX asked him to fill in for the rest of the tour.

So, tonight I went to see Silverstein. It turned out to be an awesome show.

This was my second time seeing them, and they were great. They had these cool little robots on top of their amps that shot lasers from there eyes.

They were the only band on the show that didn't scream. People didn't seem real into them, but I enjoyed them. They had some slow songs that really helped switch things up after a night of screaming.

Third time seeing them, and they were great as usual. They played an awesome set, and closed the night out with "Bleeds No More". People were going crazy the whole set.

These guys were awesome, as usual. They had so much energy, and everyone was going crazy for them.

At one point, I fell over, and ended up with like four people on top of me. Only a couple people even bothered trying to help everyone up, so I was on the ground for like 2 minutes. The whole night, I was one of the few guys helping people up when they fell. :-\

[B]Taking Back Sunday[/B]
Amazing. The crowd didn't have as much energy during their set, but it was still awesome. They played pretty much evey song I wanted to hear, and they were great.

That's a bummer about Emanuel I love them. I'm not into Story of the Year, and I can't belive the crowd had more energy during SOTY than during TBS. Well that REALLY sucks about falling on the ground. I always help people up, people that don't are bitches, can't stand people like that. The only song I didn't get to hear that I wanted to when I saw TBS was There's No I In Team.

I would have liked to hear "There Is No I In Team" as well, but either way their setlist was great.

I think the crowd had more energy for Story of the Year because their music is more intense than Taking Back Sunday's.

I'm guessing that this was the first concert a lot of these people had ever been to. It was at a college campus, so it was really cheap for students. That's the only excuse for why a lot of these people had no idea what to do.
