Apocalyptic Raids 07-31-2006 08:47 AM

I got one of the Use Your Illusion DVDs from the library today. It's pretty good :D

dUSK 07-31-2006 08:53 AM

Which one?

I have them both, but I always preferred number 2 more. I don't know why though, because I haven't seen them for ages and I can't remember the setlists exactly. Slash playing the Godfather theme was always awesome though.

/shudders after thinking about Axl's choice of pants on said DVD's

Apocalyptic Raids 07-31-2006 09:01 AM

It's UYI 1.

oh man, the pants! THE PANTS!

:shudder:

dUSK 07-31-2006 09:07 AM

I just looked at the setlists (tracklists) I have no idea why I preferred UYI 2. UYI 1 looks just as good, if not better, on paper. I suppose I always disliked the number of time Axl changed costume during Civil War though, so I'm going to blame my preferences on that.

Are his pants black on UYI 1? The white ones on UYI 2 are way worse. :upset:

Apocalyptic Raids 07-31-2006 09:24 AM

Yeah, and he wears some red ones for a few songs.

Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach sang lead vocals for the last two songs ("Night Train" and "Paradise City") of Guns N' Roses' set at the Wembley Arena in London, England on Sunday (July 30) after singer Axl Rose was taken ill and was unable to finish the show. The band performed an abbreviated set which reportedly featured no new songs, a departure from the rest of the tour where several "Chinese Democracy" numbers were regularly aired at every performance.

In other news, Guns N' Roses played a special acoustic gig late Saturday/early Sunday at a small London club called Cuckoo, featuring a crowd made up in part of audience members from Guns N' Roses first Wembley Arena performance on Saturday (July 29) who had their names read out by Axl during the show. The acoustic gig reportedly started at 4:00 a.m. and finished at about 5:30 a.m.

The July 30 Wembley concert was the final show of Guns N' Roses' lengthy European tour, which kicked off May 25 in Madrid, Spain.

Guns N' Roses will headline KROQ's Inland Invasion 2006 on September 23 at the Hyundai Pavillion at Glen Helen in Devore, California. Additional U.S. dates are expected in the fall

blue3 07-31-2006 11:39 AM

That better be a typo. Canadian tour dates instead of US.
Yeah, and he wears some red ones for a few songs.

:upset:
He has like 2346237 different ones. You know you like it.

21.Paradise City (Bach on vocals, No Axl)

I just wrote a big old review, and the my web browser crashed and I lost it. So instead of writing it again, I have summed it up into some simple points. It wasn't the longest set of the tour, and Axl didn't even make it to the end, but just seeing those songs, and Axl screaming at me from so close, was magical.

Highlights were Novemeber Rain with it's 3 amazing solo's, The Blues and It's So Easy. And suprisingly Paradise City with Bach was really interesting wo watch, aswell as the amazing solo from Bumblefoot and the Christina Aguillera adaptation.

Some low quality snaps I took on my phone....

Me and a friend before the show (you can just about make out the GNR merch)

My favorite shot of Axl on top of the piano during The Blues climax

In summary, twas an amazing night!

Lord Abortion 07-31-2006 04:26 PM

Was you gotta move the thing with the maracas?

Kyle the 2nd 07-31-2006 04:31 PM

I think it's a Stones cover, but I don't recall any Maracas being included. It was the first song with Izzy and he just came out and played it on his own basically. It sounded kinda bluesy/old school rock and roll-ish.

Lord Abortion 07-31-2006 04:34 PM

hmm...we must have had something different then.
Sounds pretty much the same as our set apart from the lack of paradise city and we got Chinese Democracy instead of The Blues.

Kyle the 2nd 07-31-2006 04:43 PM

yeah, it's odd that there was no My Michelle at the show I went to, but any mior differences in the sets don't bother me at the end of the day. I would have liked to see them play 'Better' and maybe even 'Chinese Democracy', but I'm more than happy with what I got.

Surprise trip to the Teenage Cancer Trust
Guns n' Roses singer Axl Rose has made a surprise visit to the Teenage Cancer Trust Ward at the University College Hospital in London.

The singer had just completed Guns N' Roses' controversial European tour, culminating with a final date at Wembley Arena a week last Sunday (July 30).

Simon Davies the CEO of the Teenage Cancer Trust Ward said: "We were so touched that Axl wanted to visit the Teenage Cancer Trust ward in London.

"Axl spent time speaking with each of the patients individually asking about their diagnosis and treatment, and what they enjoyed doing when they were not in hospital. Speaking with patients after Axl's visit, I got a real sense of just how excited they were to have met him and how much it lifted their spirits."

The Teenage Cancer Trustis known for its strong links with rock music. Each year The Who singer Roger Daltrey produces a week of shows at the Royal Albert Hall, which this year featured Bloc Party and Razorlight.

Lord Abortion 08-12-2006 09:36 AM

That's pretty cool, good on Axl for doing that.

Hehe, I lend my brother AFD, and he's obsessed by it.

guns_n_roses=Slash+Axl 08-12-2006 04:19 PM

nice. afd has to be one of the best debut album of all time. it just has kick *** songs like welcome to jungle, it's so easy, mr brownstone, my michelle, paradice city.

Kyle 08-12-2006 04:58 PM

It's up there with my favorite debuts.

blue3 08-13-2006 03:20 AM

Ouch. I tried making my sister listen to GNR and she just laughed.

psychedelic_liam 08-13-2006 07:55 AM

nicely written bro, good read :)

dUSK 08-13-2006 08:29 AM

Heh, I stole my Dad's copy of AFD and kept it for a year or so. When I eventually got around to buying my own copy, I put the original disc in my brothers room and blamed it on him. It was great.

/puts on Anything Goes. Damn I love this song. Those grooving verses are so incredibly badass.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-13-2006 08:33 AM

I got all my GNR from the library.

guns_n_roses=Slash+Axl 08-13-2006 12:52 PM

Kyle 08-13-2006 01:10 PM

I bought the albums in this order;

AFD > UYI2 > GNR Lies > UYI1 > SI > Live Era

Funnily enough that's pretty much the order in which I enjoy the albums the most (excluding Live Era). So I basically listened to the band getting gradually worse from the moment I bought AFD. I only very recently bought Live Era and I really like it, the version of Nightrain on there is so kickass.

dUSK 08-13-2006 10:31 PM

I'm not much of a fan of the UYI Albums really. If I put them both together, I could make one album of awesome tracks, and another of what I think is a bit garbage. Oh well, that's just me.

Live Era is awesome though. My mum bought me it a few years ago, and went for a good couple of weeks of just listening to it. No Civil War was always a little disappointing for me though.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-13-2006 10:35 PM

I like the UYI albums alot. Some tracks I never bother with, but theres some awesome stuff on there.

Kyle 08-14-2006 04:56 AM
I like the UYI albums alot. Some tracks I never bother with, but theres some awesome stuff on there.
Yeah, pretty much same here. UYI2 is pretty good for the most part, only a few tracks which I might skip.

Whilst it would have been cool to see them create a single UYI album with the best from both albums, I'm glad they got all the material out that they could. Waiting for Chinese Democracy would be all the more tedious with less material to listen to in the meantime.

Lord Abortion 08-15-2006 04:34 AM

Lies era is excellent.

Move to the city, Nice boys and Reckless life are brilliant tracks.

Crazy and Stupid 08-15-2006 05:08 AM

TAKE ME DOWN TO THE PARADISE CITY WHERE THE GRASS IS GREEN AND THE GIRLS ARE PRETTY TAKE ME HOME yeah yeah!!!

Apocalyptic Raids 08-15-2006 05:10 AM

Great song.
