No, I believe they have talent, but I do believe they're slightly overrated, in all aspects.

I use to like them, but it's just Robert Plant's voice that makes you dislike them. There are many other reasons why I dislike them, but that is one large part.
I do understand what you mean about them being slightly over rated but they're still an amzing band in my opinion.

I have a friend that also really disliked robert plant's voice for a while, at first he was a huge fan then the voice got to him now he's becomeing a fan again. But what I found odd about it is that he listens to alot of radio head, and really likes thom yorke (yes his voice to me is very annoying at times).

Although I disagre with you i respect your opinion because you have actual reasons not "They're just old fogey music".

Anyways as for bands I dislike it depends on what you consider classic rock. However one band that took a wrong turn was jefferson airplane. As jefferson airplane they had good stuff but later on they just sucked - jefferson starship and such.

StreetlightRock 04-11-2004 09:52 AM

But like, heaps of people out there who go 'I LOVE LED ZEPPLIN!!' have only actually heard Stairway to Heaven.

DVG.

B0nz0 04-11-2004 09:59 AM

i like led zeppelin, except plant bothers me.

classic rock bands i don't like:
Fleetwood Mac
KISS

do any of you guys like the Motown stuff? personally i love a lot of it. i know most of it is pop stuff and i'm prob gonna get flamed for this, but i'm a big stevie wonder fan. i also love the temptations and the four tops. and marvin gaye and smokey robinson.

Yea, i know, or people that go "CALSSIC ROCK IS AWESOME" have only heard zeppelin, but hey some of them are just new to it and haven't had their time to "grow".

But ya i do not what you mean, most "real" (for lack of a better word) classic rock fans like the song, but I don't know a single one who would site it as their favourite song. The song is defintely over rated, it's good but they have better stuff. I find the bigger fans of bands are often the ones that like the bands less popular songs.

Ya, i don't really care for kiss, i'm sure their shows are great but as far as music goes it's mediocre. In interviews they seem much to full of themselves I they're all "ya, rock sucked and then we came and everybody was happy" especially gene simmons.

Fleetwood mack- not much to say, I just don't like their music.

Badmoon 04-11-2004 10:23 AM

^ Yeah, I also hate Fleetwood Mac

B0nz0 04-11-2004 10:50 AM

what instruments do u guys play, and what are your favorite classic rock songs to play along to. i play drums (6 years) and guitar (1 month). i really can't play along with anything yet on the guitar, but on the drums i like playing to "fire," "baba o'reilly," "frankenstein," "won't get fooled again," and lots of cream and zeppelin.

i think it would be a cool idea if we started an e band and recorded covers of classic rock songs. unfortunately i have no recording equiptment.

Badmoon 04-11-2004 11:14 AM

^ nor do I

B0nz0 04-11-2004 12:27 PM

o well, so much for that idea.

BludgeonySteve 04-11-2004 01:12 PM

I play guitar and don't really have a favorite band to play. I'll learn anything if I like it.

RockAndRoll 04-11-2004 01:43 PM

I play drums and enjoy playing a bunch fo different stuff, cream, zeppelin, and hendrix mostly but i'm going to learn some the who stuff soon and some doors if i can convince my guitarist to play some of it.

FrailandBedazzled1979 04-11-2004 01:45 PM

guitar- i play mostly speed metal and uplifting power metal type leads

bass- if im in a bluesy mood im basically a replica of John Paul Jones, but when im writing and jamming im a Steve Harris (iron maiden) triplet nut with the neck knowledge and style of Geddy Lee.

VoodooChild 04-11-2004 06:46 PM

I play guitar(about 6 months) and I'm gonna order a harmonica in a month or two. When I play guitar I'm super diverse. I play anything from Bob Dylan to Metallica to Incubus to Phish to AC/DC to everything else. I love all music. I also can't do the e-band thing since I got no recording equipment.......and I kinda suck :P

Vegetable Man 04-11-2004 06:56 PM

Classic Rock is pretty good, but it's way too popular in my opinion. I love bands like Pink Floyd, the Beatles, CCR, THe Byrds, etc but most of the best classic rock bands are from the 60s. In the 70s it lost all of it's credibility when bands like the Eagles, BTO, and Foreigner emerged. That stuff is so generic. Another thing is that is get so much play on the radio, the classic rock. Why doesn't the radio ever play and Velvet Underground, they are a classic example of a great rock band.

StreetlightRock 04-12-2004 03:41 AM

^ guitar, 4 years, i play mostly anything rock related, metal, classic, whatever.

DVG.

sheik 04-12-2004 04:51 AM

I'm 15 and most of my friends like the ocassional classic rock song but i don't know any one who likes it as much as me. In the christmas/summer holidays my Dad gave me all his old vinyl and the covers were a little dirty but I cleaned them up and now I have, Cream-Disrali Gears, The Jimi Hendrix Experience-Smash Hits, The Beatles-White album
and heaps of others like jefferson airplane, the byrds and what not. Ive played acoustic guitar for 2 years but I'm 4 weeks away from getting a squire strat.
My 9 year old brother loves classic rock after seeing that movie, school of rock

Moroii 04-12-2004 05:25 AM

I've been playing guitar about four years, but I've been serious for the last year or so, and maybe for a short time a couple years ago. I don't typically play other people's solos, 'cause they're bitches to get down to the point of being able to play it with any real emotional vitality, plus it's so much more rewarding to make up your own, that builds character. I just learn all the riffs and bits & pieces of the solos, and then improvise to an album. As far as my prefered band to jam to, that's any band with long, simple groovy songs, not to many complex changes (makes for hard soloing sometimes). But it's best to go for variety, that builds character, too.
60's and 70's were when rock was at it's pinacle. today it seems to be going further down hill...but along the way there were some 80's greats, like queen, ac/dc, van halen, billy joel, etc. let's not forget them, they are classic rock as well.

i notice no1's mentioned george thorogood, the doobie bros., iron butterfly, the animals, srv, journey, styx, the moody blues... etc. what are some of ur favorite lesser know classic rock artists?
Montrose was such a great group(sammy hagar) Oh yes and about OU812 and Balance, they were both very good albums, OU812 is my fav VH album from Sammy.

I just noticed I haven't posted any of my fav classic rock bands in this thread. I made a "official classic rock" kinda thread a long time ago, but it wasn't nearly as large as this one. Oh well.

The Beatles
The Who
The Byrds
The Animals
The Greatfull Dead
Cream
The Allman Brothers
Band of gypsies
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Rush
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Queen
Boston

As for classic rock bands I cannot stand:

The Doors (I've tried to get into them several times, but I just can't. Most overrated band of all time if you ask me)
The Eagles (as vegetable man said, so boring and generic)
Aerosmith
