Because I don't have the money for one, or any nearby friends with basses, or anyone to teach me for free (although I'm sure I could learn on my own). I do, however, have a harmonica.

I'm talking sexual proficiency, not personality or coolness. Good bassists can move their two most sexually important fingers around so fast that all you see is a skin coloured blur. This may sound like an exagguration, but it's not. I was very impressed with this one Israeli guy.
