What are those like subject wise? I think we do have a few...Cipher Hour has some I believe. I have a few more like that and less emo if I am thinking of the right type of stuff.
Lemme find some good representations of lyrics for that stuff...

Riva 12-15-2004 06:01 AM

Black and Death is all about anger/gore and sometimes satanism. :)

Well, that is the broadest definition possible, I think.

Here is a black metal song I quite like. :)

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 06:02 AM

Yes, please do. Too many newbs never crit anything and so I only post songs there about once a month so I don't task the regs to actually get some good crits, but if you are a good critter you will get good crits back :)

I encourage you to post em though, it helps you improve a lot imo.

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-15-2004 06:08 AM

Also thats just death and black metal, doesn't really go into what symphonic black metal and melodic death and black can make as well for lyrics. They can get quite metaphorical, but just plain death and black are pretty straight forward.

Riva 12-15-2004 06:12 AM

Metaphorical:
So I just burned this cd for this mexican in my biology class (whom I'm giving metal education)

He already knows and listens to decent metal (black, death, power), I'm just filling him in on the bands that count.

Yes, I realized I referred to him as "mexican". We are racist friends. [/inside joke]

He was interested in some of the bands I've mentioned, so I burned him a cd. He was quite anxious to hear this necrophagist band I was talking about. (a) Which is why I put three of their songs on the cd.

The songlist:

Buckethead - Machoto Mirago
Necrophagist - Symbiotic in Theory
Bal Sagoth - Atlantis Ascendant
Into Eternity - Splintered Visions
Cryptopsy - Phobophile
Necrophagist - Intestinal Incubation
Atheist - Mineral
Borknagar - Colossus
Psycroptic - The Valley of Winds' Breath and Dragons' Fire
Cynic - How Could I
Cryptopsy - We Bleed
Spiral Architect - A Skeptic's Universe
Morbid Angel - Opening of the Gates
Mithras - Bequeath Thy Visions
Necrophagist - Ignominious and Pale
Death - Overactive Imagination

Decent list? I think he's going to like it.

And I'm expecting a burned cd back from him, so I'll tell you the songs he puts on there, if I even get one.
Pretty good, should have done Fermented instead of Intestinal for Necrophagist (<3) and you should have done the title track of Worlds for Mithras, and there's no Lykathea Aflame or 1349, but I'm just nitpicking.

Oh yeah, and Planetary Discipling is the best psycroptic :p

BTW, if you were really rascist, you would call him a "razorback" or "wetback".

LordDargon 12-15-2004 06:26 AM

Oops, I didn't notice the thread had moved on. Oh well, death metal CDs take precedence over all your inane chit-chat.

"I" is literally in every line, it gets repetitive and boring and is not as creative or metaphorical (this is purely from a lyrical standpoint having not heard the song).

Do a room search in the BlackMetal room, 1349 are a very well-known band. They're actually mainstream, as far as black metal goes.

And Cradle of Filth aren't black metal anyways, and they have crappy goth lyrics.

Yeah, I had an idea which you were talking about. Repetition is one of the strongest tools of rhetoric, though..I'd imagine the aim of the song isn't to dance and twirl through metaphors and lyrical devices, but to stir up baser feelings.

No shit they aren't black metal, and they have some of the best lyrics I think.

They use alot of variety in their word selection and useage and so forth...

I know, but it is very lyrically boring. Half the kids in S&L could spit that out in 10 mins...and the other half are too good to write something that poor...
/harsh

It is just really unoriginal, hang out and read some songs in S&L and you will agree.

Don't get mad just cause you can't find 1349, I'm not being elitist, it's true, if you search for it in the black metal room you will get about 160 results
I am a noob to soulseek still, how do you do room searches?
Enter a chat room, right-click on the chat, and go "room search" You must have version 1.44 or newer. It won't work on version 1.42 or whatever the current stable one is.

Is anyone in mxrockandmetal on slsk? If so I'll sign in for a bit.

LordDargon 12-15-2004 06:48 AM

You bastards someone go in. Right click on room menu, create room, enter "mxrockandmetal" no quotes.
