My university course has opened me up to a lot of great, great stuff. Gyorgi Ligeti, in particular, is starting to really challenge Penderecki (who we're also studying, incidentally) as my favourite composer.

My other music teacher wore a Shpongle hoodie today, too. How ownage is that?
This doesn't really relate, but in my art course we are studying up on Andy Warhol

Anyways I've been listening to alot of The Dirtbombs lately

Iai 10-24-2005 08:03 PM

I see your art, and raise you the fact that my Media teacher (and personal tutor) loves My Bloody Valentine. And looks like Romeo from The Magic Numbers.

Zappa 10-24-2005 08:15 PM

Hey Iai, I'm going to send you a PM on RYM with the link to my album tomorrow. I'm uploading it to YSI for the third time now.

pixiesfanyo 10-24-2005 08:18 PM

Elliott Smith - Basement II.

What a nice cd. The new copy of Going Nowhere, is probably my favorite.

Another thing I missed! I'll check it out, of course.

Glenn Branca. His first symphony pwns everything, ever, always.

Zappa 10-24-2005 08:48 PM
Glenn Branca. His first symphony pwns everything, ever, for always.
You're right, it is pretty sweet. I should listen to that tomorrow.

Say Anything. So, so, so, so, so good!

And according to the charts:
Go Big Casino
Beck
Metric
Apples in Stereo
Jimmy Eat World
Franz Ferdinland
Sufjan Stevens
Maxi Geil & Playcolt

I have decided that The Dillinger Escape Plan is the sound of a boot stamping on a human face forever. The current singer makes for the best interviews, and his favorite bands include stuff like Dresden Dolls and My Bloody Valentine. A shoegaze band is pretty much the polar opposite of a band whose singer stares into the audience for a whole song without blinking.

It sure is great stuff.
I don't see where the embarassment comes in.
It seemed funny that the artist who appeared atop my audioscrobbler was someone from this very forum. But I guess an artist whose album has 24 tracks spanning just over half an hour will do that.

fIREHOSE - If'n

I'm digging the Unicorns alot...such a fun band. I finally checked out some TV On The Radio...and I don't understand the fuss...it's basically crap in my opinion.

I saw Thomas Dybdahl two days ago. It was just mindblowing. That man has a rare brand of intensity on stage.

Iai 10-25-2005 07:44 AM

I spent most of last night grooving to Shpongle- Nothing Lasts and Nujabes - Metaphorical Music. Then I went and spoiled it all by putting on Liz Phair.

Tomahawk 10-25-2005 08:45 AM

Been listening to

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Both brilliant albums that I haven't listened to for way too long.

Iai 10-25-2005 12:14 PM

Majorly, majorly digging Kate Bush's new single, and the surprisingly great B-side (a cover of Sexual Healing).
The Smashing Pumpkins are gonna get beaten up by the rest of your list.
I don't know about that because Iron and Wine is pretty vaginaie. It might be a draw between the two.

P.S. The local community radio station played one hour worth of their material last night. IT was probably the longest, most painful, hour I've ever lived through.

The NPC 10-25-2005 04:05 PM
I don't know, their new album with Calexico kind of kicks the Pumpkins in the face.
Calexico sucks nards and the sad thing is they're from my ol' city.

I say it'd be a draw between the two. They'd slap eachother around a bit and pull eachother's hair, oh wait...well anyway it'd be over in a matter of seconds.

Dog 10-25-2005 04:08 PM
people really need to hear the Tindersticks album, I think a lot of you would really enjoy it. It's got a lot of Nick Cave and Belle and Sebastian influence, among other things.
Agreed; I'm surprised more people aren't into them.

Not really, come to Tucson and listen to all the other bands that came before them that did the exact same thing. They got lucky, sad, sooooo sad.

P.S. What a fan boy.

morrissey 10-25-2005 04:09 PM

The Feelies, nice. I've been wanting to check them out for a while now. Only thing I've heard is a Decemberists cover. What would you recommend?

Sounds interesting. Added to the list.
