How is Pink Floyd pretentious?

Prince of Darkness 09-05-2005 01:52 PM
Pink Floyd is pretentious. They're pretty good though. Im disliking Dark Side more and more everyday however.
I didn't really like the tracks that they played, but I never watched the DVD.

Comfortably Numb probably the best song, right?

Distant Echoes 09-05-2005 02:52 PM

If you mean Comfortably Numb on Pompeii, at the time Pompeii was recorded, they were still working on DSOTM...all the songs are great though. Some people dont like that echoes was split, but i thught it was pretty good.

You defintaly want the directors cut though...

b. no way

a. LAP epitomises for me everything i love about pink floyd, if you watch the full directors cut with bits of dark side in.

Jean Chrétien 09-05-2005 04:26 PM

what are your favorite albums by pink floyd: here are mine

1. (Uno) WISH YOU WERE HERE :o
2. (CLOSE TO Uno) DARK SIDE of the moon :)
3. (Three) MEDDLE (but only enchoes and one OF these DAYS) :smash:
4. (4, duh) ANIMALS (but not the best) :o
5. The WALL (TOO INCONSISTANT, is my opinion) :upset:
THE WORST IS THE FINAL CUT, WHICH I DISLIKE :(

however,! i couldn't rank their first album, it is to unique (thanks SYD!! :chug: )

blue3 09-05-2005 04:33 PM

I just stole my dad's old Wall CD.. Didn't have to pay.

MBS 09-05-2005 04:57 PM

I got my copy of the Wall for 25 dollars at Kmart.

DeusExMachina 09-05-2005 05:05 PM

I got The Wall used, so it was pretty cheap.

Scooch 09-05-2005 05:13 PM

I got the Vinyl for 15

Distant Echoes 09-05-2005 05:45 PM

Wall is the only pink floyd cd i dont own on CD :(

Brewer14 09-05-2005 06:02 PM

Is WYWH worth $15? It only has 5 songs, but I know the title track is excellent. So is it worth the money?

magicbus 09-05-2005 06:03 PM
Is WYWH worth $15? It only has 5 songs, but I know the title track is excellent. So is it worth the money?
It is worth the 1st and 5th tracks alone. I bought another copy because my first was scratched. So I guess I spent $30 on it.

BigTrav415 09-05-2005 06:30 PM
YES! I know exactly what you mean about the 18:15 part, I memorized the time so I could have a way to tell people about what I meant. That part is so amazing, just like the rest of the album.
Yes, we had a GoogleTalk about that one time.

/feels cool because noone else knows what I'm talking about

I think my favorite parts of Echoes would be:
The "switch-over" to the funky part
The crazy-ass 18:15 guitar riff
The set of lyrics after the guitar riff, and how it just switches to them without skiping a beat.

Cloudless every day you fall,
Upon my waking eyes,
Inviting and inciting me to rise.
And through the window in the wall,
Come streaming in on sunlight wings,
A million bright ambassadors of morning.
And no one sings me lullabies,
And no one makes me close my eyes,
So I throw the windows wide,
And call to you across the sky.

Lyrical and rythmic perfection from Gilmour there :thumb:

Definately. I haven't heard the last track, but I've heard the other four. Iat's my favorite Floyd album, but I don't have any money to get it with.

DeusExMachina 09-05-2005 06:32 PM

The 18:15 part of Echoes is that sick guitar arpeggio bit, right? I love that part. Probably my favorite part of the song.

Cluster One from TDB is amazing. That album is so incredible instrumentally.
The 18:15 part of Echoes is that sick guitar arpeggio bit, right? I love that part. Probably my favorite part of the song.
Yea, that's the one. It's also my favorite part of the song.

DeusExMachina 09-05-2005 08:04 PM

NP: Echoes

All that talk of the 18:15 bit made me want to listen. The entire instrumental bit after the ambient breakdown is just incredible. Is it just me, or is that bit sort of like a prehistoric Explosions in the Sky kind of sound?

BigTrav415 09-05-2005 08:08 PM

NP: Wish You Were here

I keep forgetting how good this song is...

DeusExMachina 09-05-2005 08:12 PM

While my favorite Pink Floyd song changes at any given time, WYWH is probably my overall favorite song by them. It's just so beautiful.

Distant Echoes 09-05-2005 08:24 PM

hey, what happened to that lyrical anylasis you guys did a while back? i remember you finished dsotm and i volunteered for a song on wywh before i left. What ever happened after that? I felt sortta bad i ditched you guys...but it only took a few seconds to get over it :)

magicbus 09-05-2005 08:29 PM

Yea, kinda how the instruments keep getting louder until it "explodes" back into the vocals. I get what you mean.

DeusExMachina 09-05-2005 08:52 PM
Yea, kinda how the instruments keep getting louder until it "explodes" back into the vocals. I get what you mean.
Cool. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

BigTrav415 09-05-2005 09:00 PM
Cool. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.
Yeah, but it's not just an explosion, it's like an explosion followed quickly by an implosion, it just completely changes tempo and pitch, just shifts seamlessly into the lyrics. It's so climactic and yet so anticlimactic at the same time...

/no habla ingles muy good :weird:

Oh, and about the lyrical analysis, I was actually gonna pop Sheep on you guys sometime soon, and everyone would be like "wow dude, you're cool, you rememebered! *praise BigTrav in all his glory*", but now you've gone and ruined it. Thanks

 j/k. I'll get it done sometime.
