We need a new game thread....Any ideas?

Liebensaft 12-29-2005 11:21 PM

The "What are you eating now, punx?" thread.

Buzzcocks are pretty awesome.

I'm inclined to agree with the top two posts.

As soon as I signed back onto the internet, I got cold. That must be some kind of bad sign.

In other news, I love playing my acoustic that I got for Christmas.

I love playing my banjo, but it's disgustingly out of tune and I suck at tuning things.

I ordered a tuner today.

Brain Toad 12-30-2005 01:03 AM

My acoustic was really out of tune but I took it my guitar lesson today and my teacher helped me tune it. I'm pretty much useless gettings things in tune if they aren't close, because tuners can't really help you.

? Yeah they can. You tighten/loosen the string while playing it and the tuner picks up the sound and displays lights that show it's closeness to being in tune. When you get the center green light (or whatever for you) lit, you're good.

I held a banjo from I think 1918 or so on Xmas eve. I even plucked a couple strings. It belonged to the parents of my mother's boyfriend (or at least it did before they gave it as a gift). It was pretty amazing, and in great condition. It was weird though since I've never actually held, or seen a banjo in person.

Doesn't help when the thing is brand new out of the box and was never tuned. When I tuned it today with ym teacher, I had to tune it about about 10 turns of the pegs. It wasn't even picking it up when I tried tuning it.

My grandpa has a mandolin from 1912 in great condition that he found in his dad's stuff. It's pretty amazing.

I wish I could play something cool like a mandolin. Hell, this bass is enough of a challenge.

holy_roller99 12-30-2005 01:29 AM

i have my freinds dads old mandolin and have been thinking of picking it up again. i did get into it a little when i was liek 13 but may as well.

I'm thinking about getting one. I love it's sound and they are so cheap compared to guitars.

The first guy I got bass lessons from taught virtually every instrument under the sun, and the guy before me took mandolin, and I could hear him while waiting for his practice to be over. It sounds amazing.

Brain Toad 12-30-2005 01:35 AM

The guy I get lessons from only plays guitar and piano, and I think maybe bass.

I don't think he realized there was a mandolin in Tempest, as he tabbed out the mandolin lines for me to play on guitar. Nearly impossible to play the speed Lief plays with his mandolin on guitar.

Liebensaft 12-30-2005 01:44 AM

What's the standard tuning on a mandolin. I really know nothing about them.

GDAE

I had to look it up.

I didn't know they had 4 strings. That's pretty cool.

holy_roller99 12-30-2005 01:59 AM

it has 8 strings but in ordee to get the ringing sound it tunes every two strings the same.

Ah. Well I hope ya have fun with your new guitar then! I passed over that post.

Brain Toad 12-30-2005 02:00 AM

They have 8 actually, but since two are tuned in unison, it's written GDAE (had to look that up too)

holy_roller99 12-30-2005 02:01 AM

actually it has an alternate tuning with an FAGD or something

Brain Toad 12-30-2005 02:02 AM

Some may have 16 though.

It's so awesome watching him play that thing.

holy_roller99 12-30-2005 02:06 AM

i actually have a lot of stuff left from when i was into bluegrass. my dad kind of pushed it on me but it got me into guitart and stuff.

Holy hell, that's a mandolin?

And how come we don't have the [img] code one?

Double necked electric mandolin, completely custom. The bottom neck is an octave higher then regular mandolin tuning.

And [img] code is turned off in most forums due to goatse, ******* and the like. Hardcore and Other Music have it because J never turned it off.

I'd be supportive of a perm ban on any goatse or ******* posters, and lesser bans on slightly less offensive pictures, as long as we could have pictures.
