Hennepin Crawler and Last Salmon Man are so good. Tragedy's A' Comin annoys the hell out of me
I only listened to it a few times, but I heard them jam the album live last year. I was feeling the show was gonna go downhill quick but they played the new tunes well. That's what ultimately made me buy it.

Any of their Fishing Chronicle tunes are endearing. . I Dig, Lee Van Cleef.
probably the only good post-punk

i mean the singer committed suicide that's pretty hardcore
I dig JD but yeah I don't even get the appeal. My cousin thinks they are amazing and that he's the only person whos ever heard JD ( he's like that about The Cure too, P annoying). They only had one good album. I think there was just a lot of mystique around the band, they were artsy and different than what was going on. They were pretty much the first post-punk band. Toss in Ian Curtis' Suicide and you got the RnR fairy tale.

I can think of other PP bands that were better. . . New Order being one of them (coincidentally).

Control is a Good Doc on JD. Might want to check it out.

Thou - Tyrant

Morumbar 06-14-2012 11:58 AM

I like Joy Division. I usually only listened to them when I'd already just listened to everything Have a Nice Life released, but lately I've been getting into their sound more. Apart from JD, until this afternoon, when I got some recs from Haz and Mitch, I didn't know any other post-punk, really. I really liked that The Cure album.

Sonny Wortzik 06-14-2012 12:56 PM

Post Punk to me is basically anything from the early to mid 80's with and synth driven.

Ive been on a major kick for about a year now. A nice break from the heavier stuff Ive engulfed myself with for years. Mainly Death/Black Metal and Punk.

Try Sisters of Mercy, Echo & The Bunnymen, Love and Rockets among others.

Haz 06-14-2012 01:27 PM

The problem with that Sonny is though there is overlap 80's New Wave and Synthpop is not necessarily Post-Punk, and vice versa. It tends to be darker, more bass heavy and doesn't necessarily have synths in it. Mission of Burma and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds lean more towards the dirty blues, folk and country for instance.

Tender Prey is my favourite

Cool. I already got some recommendations from Haz, Mitch and Alex, so idk when I'll work my way through all of these bands, but at least I now have some new shit to listen to. :)

I mean some of its the fairy tale but there;s really an urgency behind JOy Division. I used to binge on post punk and indie shit and now i don't listen to anything like that but i still enjoy JD. They just did two perfect albums and then quit after a suicide.

Never really gave Nick Cave a Shot but thanks for the suggestion. I was more over generalizing, there are a few sub generes to Post punk. However to be more specific I've been on a major New wave/Synthpop/EBM kick for over a year. On that note. .
