The only Nightwish I like is the new one.
liking some Nightwish makes you cool in this user's eyes.

Everyone else who doesn't is pooey, lol.

I am jk. Riva and Cocaine introduced me to Lost Horizon. That enough makes them alright in my book.

Shattered_Future 04-15-2008 03:37 PM

My friend actually started talking to me about them yesterday on our way home (the same one who likes Lordi).

She was like, "Mike, do you know who Nightwish is? They seem like somebody you'd like."

She also got into them through Ghost Love Score, 130% bitchin' in my book.
She was like, "Mike, do you know who Nightwish is? They seem like somebody you'd like."
 She didn't know you liked Nightwish before yesterday?

Shattered_Future 04-15-2008 03:58 PM

I was shocked too...

Riva 04-15-2008 05:21 PM

In my quite arrogant opinion, Nightwish doesn't do anything for me that I can't get from Therion, except Therion have other elements also. So Nightwish is the loser. But in a lot of cases it depends on which one you heard first, I suppose.

Tyler 04-15-2008 05:38 PM

Both Therion and Nightwish tend to make me break out into laughter, but for different reasons. Nightwish because they're ridiculous and Tarja's voice was irritating, and Therion because it was just so unbelievably overthetop.

Riva 04-15-2008 05:41 PM

Hehe, yeah, they do get more and more over the top as time goes on. Which album was it, Tyler? Gothic Kabalah?

I am curious what other elements they have that Nightwish doesn't?

Nah it was an album that came with another, like a double album or something.

I think they use choral male vocals much better, plus they also have outstanding classical arrangements. And the music isn't dominated by one woman's gradually grating voice. The subject matter of Therion's songs is also more interesting to me, but that's hardly an objective point.
Nah it was an album that came with another, like a double album or something.
Lemuria and Sirius B, then. The first half of Sirius B gets rather cheesy, but I would think it's more like Rhapsody or Manowar cheesy than anything. I know what you mean if Lemuria is the specific album you're thinking of, though I still love it.

guess we will just have to agree to disagree lol. I love Marco's voice so much. It brings so much anger, passion, while being operatic as well. Obviously no song ever will have the classical arrangement that Poet and the Pendulum has in my eyes. Greatest song ever.

Deth 04-15-2008 05:53 PM

Therion are just amazing. Gothic Kabbalah is my favorite by quite a wide margin, but I love everything they've released.

Lemuria is a masterwork

Shadows Within 04-15-2008 09:00 PM

i have to check them out again, i got one of there albums used on a whim because i heard of them but i ended up...i don't eve remember what i did with it, but i didn't like it at the time.

Shattered_Future 04-16-2008 02:43 PM

Sirius B/Lemuria were the first Therion albums (album? I dunno...stupid double thingy) I got. The songwriting was pretty good, if completely overly bombastic at times, but I think that album would be a lot better with a more exciting production. All the stuff is really dull...it could use some brightness.

Gothic Kabbalah, on the other hand, is a masterpiece.

pate 04-16-2008 03:03 PM

I like Lemuria way more than GK. Those are the only ones I've spent a lot of time with. I need to change that.

Riva 04-16-2008 06:57 PM

I got Sirius B a couple of years before Lemuria; it was my first Therion album. I think the production is great. Any more production and it could sound like Heavenseeker.

Shattered_Future 04-17-2008 02:32 PM

In terms of loudness, everything is balanced well, but it all sounds so DULL. The guitars in particular need a lot more pop, more treble.

Songwriting is great though. Shame Mats left...he's a killer vocalist. Plus, he's the only singer I've seen come out to do a show wrapped entirely in naked pin-up posters.

Tyr 04-17-2008 02:38 PM

Yeah, Gothic Kabbalah is my favourite Therion album, but they all pretty much rule.

MetalOz 04-23-2008 07:47 AM

I just got my Kamelot/Edguy tickets :naughty:

Anyone heard of this compilation album containing bonus tracks from US and Japanese releases and 2 rare tracks listed on metal-archives: Myths & Legends of Kamelot?

Haha, I just bought mine yesterday. October 20th :thumb:

They slayed back in November, but with Edguy opening rather Leaves Eyes as with last time it should be much better.

Poet 04-23-2008 04:37 PM

seriously, I never get any good show :(. The one I do get (Nightwish aka fav. band ever), my mom won't let me go too :(

pate 04-23-2008 06:01 PM

Aren't you in the Chicago area? We're getting Edguy/Kamelot too.

jrowa001 04-23-2008 06:01 PM

lol that sucks man. my mom doesnt care what shows i go too because half the time she doesnt know the bands.

who else is getting annoyed be a lot of these melodic power metal bands that are coming out and making very boring bland metal? for example Angel Blake

Shattered_Future 04-23-2008 06:25 PM

I downloaded their album because I thought the description was cool. I forgot what it was, but I was like, "This sounds like I'd enjoy it."

I didn't.

I can't go to certain shows because other people can't/it's at a bad time. Usually one of the two.

St. Louis area. The only venue that is even by me is in stupid East St. Louis. Basically, it's really really really bad. This venue is by like 3 strip clubs, lol. That is one of the main reasons I can't go to the Nightwish show. Sucks too because they've had bands like Flogging Molly and Protest the Hero for like 15 bucks.

jrowa001 04-23-2008 07:32 PM

has anyone checked out the new Ayreon vs Avantasia EP yet? im going to get it tonight, just wondering if its any good

Deth 04-23-2008 07:33 PM

I couldn't be bothered. It's just a cover and some other tracks, so I'm not too interested.

jrowa001 04-23-2008 07:35 PM

o ok, i havent seen the track list so i wasnt sure really what was on it. ill still look into it since i love both bands

lol yep. They have some good bands that come through, but the location sucks epically.

pate 04-24-2008 06:49 AM

East St. Louis is the most ghetto area of the world.

botb 04-24-2008 02:09 PM

Kamelot never comes down where I am either. If they visit virginia its way up like right next to DC so i'd have to drive like 6-7 hours to see them. next time they come i'm debating it though because roy khan owns me hard enough for me to use like 300$ on gas money to get there. :P

That's the show I'll be at, right outside of DC on October 16th

pate 04-25-2008 10:28 AM

Nocturnal Rites finally clicked. I have Grand Illusion and Shadowland. Where should I go next?

jrowa001 04-25-2008 11:33 AM

anybody like Battleroar? their new album To Death and Beyond is pretty cool.

pate 04-25-2008 11:47 AM

They're on my wishlist.
