Their best album, IMO.

Awake is a great cd. You wont go wrong with that choice.

horseypie 03-14-2006 11:49 PM

Awake took me ages, and I mean ages, to get into. Now, i reckon The Mirror is their best song, I mean, the way JLB plays with his voice at the end is about the most emotion I have heard in his voice ever.

Jev 03-15-2006 01:47 AM

I love the intro riff to that, even though it's basically ba-dum-dum over and over.

National chaos sam 03-15-2006 06:47 AM

The mirrors intro is great because where you really listen in to it it sounds as if theres so much more going on.

Only a matter of time at budokan was impressive as. Id love to see them play afterlife, Id say thats my favourite of WDADU.

Clunge 03-15-2006 06:58 AM

NP: Panic Attack

And I'm enjoying it lots :D.

TakeWarning 03-15-2006 08:17 AM

NP: Glass Prison

I thought that was the worst song on there, to be honest.

NP-The mirror

Jev 03-15-2006 10:07 AM

I thought it was great but then again I'm weird. I love WDADU and would rate it above Tot, 6DOIT and FII.

nowitzki 03-15-2006 11:12 AM

Only a Matter of Time is amazing at Budokan. The best song off WDADU IMO.

Jev 03-15-2006 11:14 AM

I prefer Afterlife and The Killing Hand.

Lord Abortion 03-15-2006 11:18 AM

I like a fortune in lies and the killing hand the best.

Jev 03-15-2006 11:23 AM

Another thing I like on it is that most of John's solos use tapping. I love tapping.

temporary 03-15-2006 02:03 PM

Man, I had the chorus to Lie stuck in my had all day, it drove me nuts. Anyways, the Live in Tokyo/Five Years in a LiveTime DVD is so awsome. Peruvian Skies with the Have Cigar and Enter Sandman breaks is so cool.

Mr_Bounce 03-15-2006 02:23 PM

I had the line "love is an act of blood, and i'm bleeding" from Space Dye Vest stuck in my head the other day, and I couldn't remember the bit that came next. So every time I 'heard' it I'd go "dammit" :D

Clunge 03-15-2006 02:51 PM

As much as I love Dream Theater's music, does anyone else think the lyrics are bordering on terrible?

Listen to the lyrics in Octavarium (track), they're just... poop.

ghettoeddo 03-15-2006 03:15 PM

^ ....uhhhhhh i am going to have to STRONGLY disagree.
the full circle section is naming songs by bands that have influenced them and stuff, which is pretty clever if you ask me. and the razor's edge "a perfect sphere / colliding with our fate / this story ends where it began" is extremely poignant and goes with that whole "everything comes full circle" motif on 8vm.

but that's just me.

lyrically, does anyone else LOVE the line in voices that goes "i'm lying here in bed, swear my skin is inside out just another sunday morning...seen my diary on the newsstand, seems we've lost the truth to quicksand"

Lord Abortion 03-15-2006 03:57 PM

I love that line, and indeed Voices as a whole.

Darkness 03-15-2006 04:13 PM

^ I love that part to. I'm not crazy about James vocals or anybody in the bands lyrics, but that parts great. Awake is such a solid album in all aspects.

Petrucci's lyrics are some of the best ever.

^Dream~Theater^ 03-15-2006 07:20 PM

Voices is a very excellent song, One of my faves.

Mr_Bounce 03-16-2006 01:15 AM

The vocals on Awake are just amazing. In Innocence Faded his voice goes so high he can hardly control his tone (which is not a good thing :D), but I love the way his voice sounds when he's almost screaming just before the 2nd chorus, I think it is.

I agree. I love his voice in that song, I didn't really notice the change in tone though. I do notice how he pronounces "r" as "w" when he sings high.

Mr_Bounce 03-16-2006 03:52 AM

The bit that starts off at about 2:11 culminates in a note that is at 2:21. Naturally the sound of his voice is going to be different when he sings that high. Maybe I don't listen very well, but I can't rememeber too many other songs where he hits something like that.

Jev 03-16-2006 04:06 AM

The only thing I can think of that comes close is Take The Time.
