I think their early albums were much more heavy than TOT and certainly more metal. Especially I&W.
I think Awake is pretty metal.. And heavy... (With the exception of a few songs).

Edit:
I actually recorded and uploaded the Hollow Years extended solo from budokan on youtube last october.
What do you think about Portnoy's drumm solo? I think it's great, but at the beginning he could be a little more creative, but it was cool to call some of the audience to play with him.
I really like that little woodblock vs keyboard thing Pornoy does with rudess at the end of that breakdown in the middle of Beyond this life.

In fact...i might go watch it now

jpshortstuff 06-22-2006 04:59 AM

hello new thread title

Mr_Bounce 06-22-2006 05:31 AM

Yeah, that solo was pretty good. He even restrained himself from shredding for the entire duration :D

Lord Abortion 06-22-2006 06:13 AM
portnoy doesnt put peart above vinnie?

i thought i knew that site like the back of my hand :upset:
He said that Peart was a big influence on him when he was a kid, but not so much anymore.

Hollow years>>>>SOC

Jev 06-22-2006 06:55 AM

I don't get what's so amazing about that extended Hollow Years solo?
The end part of it's great but he's done much better.

josmetal 06-22-2006 10:47 AM

Thank you Captain Obvious :p

But seriously, I liked the DT thread name. Do you know why it was changed?
bump for new page.
I know which lyrics you are talking about. Its the part where there is an epic poeem chanted in the backround right? I'll see if I can find something on it.

Liquid Fantasy 06-22-2006 06:06 PM

Have you tried dtfaq.com? maybe its somewhere around there.

eug008 06-22-2006 06:56 PM

Because they were horrible. Or maybe because they didn't have the band name in them? As appose to the Tool and Opeth threads?

gillygan 06-22-2006 09:03 PM

"Learning to Live" is such an amazing song. Especially that part at 8:11 when it goes back to the main riff in "wait for Sleep."

Captain Quentin 06-22-2006 11:51 PM

man, i was listening to space dye vest last night, and i just realised how amazing it is, i never really bothered to listen to it properly before but wow.

ghettoeddo 06-23-2006 12:29 AM

listen to that song w/ big surround speakers.
or a good pair of headphones.

you will fly.

Captain Quentin 06-23-2006 01:56 AM

Thinking about it, I think bootlegs are okay to link to.

One of my favourite DT songs, has an awsome buildup to the vocal solo

jpshortstuff 06-23-2006 05:47 AM

i really think that if i dont see DT the next time they tour here i will implode. in a messy way.

Firecracker 06-23-2006 08:50 AM

I'm seeing them on every date next time they tour

ghettoeddo 06-23-2006 12:16 PM

i'd like to see you try hahaha

JP's acoustic guitar tone on "another day" in that bootleg is horrible ><
james sounds good though
