Well, don't know if you are ready for the death metalish side of metal yet. :p

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:05 AM

Probably not, if it is yuck vocals I will even give you a definitely not, I still am not a fan of growling. Yuck.

It is a mix of growling and screaming...

But you will probably like it/become acustom to it after hearing more metal over time.

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:09 AM

No doubt, but the hardest vocals I currently listen to are probably KSE or a7x so I have a way to go hehe

Yea, majority of people start on less harsh vocals and work their way up the scale of harsh vocals and sounds.

But Avenged Sevenfold is a great band though, and so is Killswitch Engage, at least their first 2 albums were.

Riva 12-15-2004 04:12 AM

A long way to go, poser. :-*

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:14 AM

I have end of heartache and it's pretty good, don't know what number it is. I have STST and WTF by a7x though and like both of those albums. I listened to some other stuff a few months ago like Zao and Blood Brothers but wasn't a fan of the vocals, I should probably give them another listen though.

Go away Jason 1 :-*

Riva 12-15-2004 04:16 AM

Blood Brothers by Maiden?

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-15-2004 04:16 AM

The End Of Heartache is their 3rd album, its alright but not that great compared to their first 2.

Riva 12-15-2004 04:17 AM

Wow, Vince. Spammirific aren't we. Nearly catching up to me in posts in this thread.

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:18 AM

No, Blood Brothers the band, though that is a quality Maiden song.

Ah, I should get their first two then?

Spam you

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-15-2004 04:21 AM

After you get through the metalcorish type of vocals you should go onto to some melodic death metal like In Flames and Dark Tranquillity and that kind of shit.

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:23 AM

Yeah, I have the In Flames Tokyo album, but took awhile to get through that one without cringing, still trying to get into it really though.

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-15-2004 04:27 AM
Yeah, I have the In Flames Tokyo album, but took awhile to get through that one without cringing, still trying to get into it really though.
Heres a suggestion to getting into harder metal...

Concentrate on the insturments moreso then the vocals, if you can concentrate on them the vocals will be in the background instead of the vocals being the main thing you hear.

I know when I first heard In Flames though I could barely hear the vocals since I was used to music that was based on the vocals being loud and not the insturments.

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:29 AM

Actually that was sort of the case by default because I was on a noisy bus for the first half of the album, but then I got off the bus and it was like "Ewww." But every listen it becomes more tolerable :)

You are just a n00b to metal. :p

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:39 AM

Bah. I like Thrash. And Maiden. And Classic Metal. And Power Metal I think.

Shut up.

Ok ok ok! You are just a n00b to extreme forms of metal...

Maiden and Classic metal is like the bitch beer/plain beer of metal who all can enjoy it for the most part since its not as harsh.

Then extreme metal is like the hard ass alcohol most people hate, or just grow to like it. Since its alot harsher then just beer becuase it has a hell of alot more alcohol in it...and well this has alot more metal in it you could say?

/crappy analogy.

:upset:

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:48 AM

It's really really funny because I hate beer and cheap wine, but love fine wines and I like many hard alcohols. Nice try though :) I guess I can see where you were going with it, but do you binge on extreme or classic then? :p

Riva 12-15-2004 04:50 AM

OK, since Bobo's analogy made me mad ( ), I shall simply list the route I took to extreme metal.

I much prefer melodic death to any other from, be it Doom, Aggressive Death or Black. In fact, I still cannot listen to Aggressive Death for very long periods, though I have grown to love Melodic Death very much.
I started off on late In Flames, songs like The Quiet Place. Then I moved to early In Flames, stuff like Jotun and The Jester Race. Then I was introduced to technical death like Necrophagist, and also more melodic death like Arghoslent.

So try these on for size:

Necrophagist - Extreme Unction, Foul Body Autopsy
Arghoslent - Purging Fires Of War, Incorrigible Bigotry (Instrumental) :thumb:
Opeth - The Apostle In Triumph, Patterns In The Ivy (Instrumental) :thumb:
Death - Spirit Crusher

See how you go with those. :)

Ok, I guess that analogy did not fit your life style...so that failed like I expected but not in that sense heh.

You could binge on either, depends on what you prefer more. :p

Riva 12-15-2004 04:54 AM

Woohoo, four stars all the way baby. Let's make sure we scare away any noobs long enough for an all-star/four-star page! :thumb:

Way to dodge me question Jason 2 :p

What's really cool is how I am close to passing you in rep now (I think)

Riva 12-15-2004 04:57 AM

I'd definitely say a binge on Classic Metal. Mostly because I am both a classic metal nut and a big fan of beer. (Australian Beer that is, ;) )

Quick joke: What is the difference between American Beer and making love in a canoe?

Nothing; they're both fucking close to water.

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 04:58 AM

Aussie Beer isn't great either :p

German is the way to go, but I still am not a fan of any beer. Take wine any day :)

Huh?

Riva 12-15-2004 05:01 AM

Wine is for Pseudo-Intellectuals. Meanwhile, funny story, I once blacked out on Goon (really, really cheap white wine), and woke up to find I had power vomited on the ceiling. :(

Oh, and Guiness is where it is really at. That or Stella Artois.

And Vince, if you're serious about getting into extreme metal, ask Jondur. The guy knows everything about everything when it comes to extreme metal.

Riva 12-15-2004 05:02 AM

Jason, I was disappointed at you calling Classic Metal the weak beer of Heavy Metal. :upset: :cries profusely:

Permanent Solution 12-15-2004 05:03 AM

Jason 2: nm

Jason 1: I am totally a real intellectual pfft. :p I might just do that :)

Daniel (right?): NZ<Aussie<American<German  Buy Close to the Edge or Fragile.

Riva 12-15-2004 05:03 AM

OMFG IT'S DANIEL!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back to R&M, you rascal you. :)
Jason, I was disappointed at you calling Classic Metal the weak beer of Heavy Metal. :upset: :cries profusely:
I wasn't calling it weak in any way shape or form, it is great music. I was just saying its easier to enjoy it for most people then extreme metal is, which is how beer is for most people as well.

And also I binge on extreme metal, not classic metal...for earlier when I was out of it /late

Riva 12-15-2004 05:05 AM

Pick up Close To The Edge, or The Yes Album.

My favourites :)

I knew it! :p (see my edit for Yes albums)

You are omnipresent, like me.

Riva 12-15-2004 05:08 AM

You are confusing Omnipresence with Emo-kidescence again.

And, twice is enough for a membership, Dan. Payable at the door. :)
