im downloading the lateralus guitar part right now 1hour 45minuets :upset:
I'm almost through listening to it. Sounds good.
Favorites off Undertow here are Bottom, Intolerance, and Undertow. How bout Opiate? What's everyones favorite off Opiate? Mine is Cold and Ugly... Gotta love Adam's thick distortion sound on that song.
Like I said from Undertow- Prison Sex and 4 Degrees. the intro to Prison Sex is awesome. I read how to do it too- First, you need to have your guitar in drop B. (Grr) Then you take the whammy bar, 'unwhammy' it and then pluck the strings. It'll sound like they're just flopping there. The you rewhammy it to make it sound like it's 'accelerating' or something

From Opiate, I gotta say I like Sweat, Part of Me, and the Gaping Lotus Experience. :D

Futuro 06-11-2005 12:21 AM

i wonder if he followed with the track?

Yeah that's pretty neat how Adam did the intro for that... I tried it myself and it sound awesome... Only problem is it detunes my guitar like crazy when I do it.

Futuro 06-11-2005 01:02 AM

he followed what sounds like a guitar pro track for lateralus. its not the same tempo.

Vandle 06-11-2005 04:39 AM

That recording is pretty good, Im sure with a bit more practice it could be better, Few things about it at the times 3:30 and 5:30 (or there abouts) it just sounds really...wierd..offtime i guess, Transitions are rough! hehe but besides that pretty good just tell the drummer to do a Creseno at the end next time :P

Hurry up and upload yours Faith..been waiting ages :P

I don't know dude, that Lateralus recording sounded pretty **** good and a lot of times when bands cover songs, they don't play it at the exact same tempo. Oh, and the Guitar Pro track for Lateralus that you can find on MySongBook is correct.

JMann 06-11-2005 07:12 AM

I can record it over again if need be, no problem. I think my 6th string is out of tune on that recording anyways.

Sounded like it on the last note.

kurrpt 06-11-2005 08:50 AM

i tried the mic out today. Im amazed how good my GNX4 could record vocals with the phantom power and a condenser mic (got a better one than the shure) I was gonna record vocals, but i had 5 hours of sleep.

Ima try and wait till after lunch. Hopefully the vocal chords wont sound as raspy

Sounds good.

kurrpt 06-11-2005 09:02 AM

that part of me vox was no good. I heard maybe one scream i thought was decent....but it seems like he does the screaming a bit better than I can, without getting all worked up. I think if im pissed, its easier.

You get anything down Moses?

I need to look at some of the lyrics for 46&2, cause im dumb and forgot some of the small bits

Well the Part of me vox was mostly crap because of the reverb, I'd do it again but I don't even think that we'll be doing that song anyway. So far I haven't gotten anything down, my family needs to get out of the house first.

Also if you think my screams are decent we should do Ticks and Leeches.

sj_2150 06-11-2005 09:33 AM

my favourite band is not TOOL but i luv em.

theyre in my view the most talented band in the world though.

clearvision 06-11-2005 10:00 AM

Meh i have a clip of me singing aenima, don't know wether to post atm...MXican said it was ok but i think he was shitting me :( I am having trouble adapting to using a proper mic...having to move it nearer/closer...and i haven't a clue to mix on cool edit, so parts of it are real quiet and others are real loud.

That's why you need compression

clearvision 06-11-2005 10:04 AM

Explain please, I'm really not a vocalist, or sound engineer...

EDIT: i searched aorund found my answer

What is a cheap mans way of stopping my sounds 'clipping'? can i get a program on my comp that will compress sounds coming through line in?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-11-2005 11:32 AM
I can record it over again if need be, no problem. I think my 6th string is out of tune on that recording anyways.
I think you should re-record it once Faith+1 gets his track recorded and uploaded. You should play along to that so that everything is sync'd and as good as possible. :thumb:

Rob-Mic recording is far superior. Problem solved. :D

On a serious note, try using different programs, or recording at a different speed. I am having a terrible latency issue right now. I need a new sound driver. If my answer doesn't help, check out the Jam Session section. Moaner or Moseph will have an answer for you in no time at all. :D If you don't already have Audacity, I would reccomend DLing it. It's so simple to use. it takes like 5 minutes to master pretty much everything you'll need to know. http://www.audacity.soundforge.net

300th post ITT :D

kurrpt 06-11-2005 11:33 AM

when you guys record vocals, you go by the album, or the idividual track? (like the one posted)

Merkaba 06-11-2005 11:46 AM

Ok, I read back a few pages and still dont know whats going on....You guys recording a mix or something? I would love to do some vocals. I'm one of the resident vocal coaches so it seems in the jams session thread. I can do just about anything maynard has done from orestes type stuff to ticks and leeches. whats up?

kurrpt 06-11-2005 11:49 AM

its a cover comp against other threads that are based on a single band. My a working version of 46&2, part of me, and we're waiting for lateralus

Hey...

I'm surrently working on aenima, i have a sketchy backing track put together by JoZ...I'm sure he'll re-record when he gets some time...It'd be great if you could lay down a vocal track for me...

I have attempted to lay one down, but I really couldnt get the chorus right and my positioning of the mic was very very bad. Since I'm using a pro mic that would be used for live performances, through my guitar amp...into my line in...I need to position the mic corretly for the loud chorus and quieter verse...

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-11-2005 12:55 PM

Merkaba, you wanna give us a little preview? Could you upload something for us, so we can hear how you sound?

Songs we need vocals for are Lateralus, 46&2, Ænema, and some time in the near future, probably Stinkfist. We have a couple other guys that are planning on doing vox, so if you don't want to, or you don't have the time, that's cool, but it would be cool if you could. :D

Moseswasbanned 06-11-2005 04:45 PM

How do I get that soundclick of 46&2 to wav?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-11-2005 05:10 PM

Download the mp3, then use Audacity to convert it. Why do you need it to be a WAV file?

Moseswasbanned 06-11-2005 05:31 PM
Download the mp3, then use Audacity to convert it. Why do you need it to be a WAV file?
Recording purposes.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-11-2005 06:58 PM

Oh ok. Well yeah, DL the mp3, if you haven't already. Open it in Audacity, then when you resave it, click something like 'export as WAV file.' :thumb: That oughta do the trick for you.

What are you gonna record right now?

Shit, I never DLed your Part of Me. :p Will do, now.

breakinginflames 06-11-2005 07:15 PM

i bet i could have sung tool a few years ago, but adolesence has some drawbacks.....

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-11-2005 07:25 PM

Moses. Part of Me is pretty good. Next time you record, dont do it in a small cave. :p

Rounder 06-12-2005 12:06 AM
Recording purposes.
most editors/muiltitrackers can play mp3's. Its not like your gonna get a better souind if you convert it back to wav. it started out as a 48000 khz 24 bit wav file so the mp3 should be good to go.

By the way, the final mix has been posted. its 100 times better now, all new guitars, (the only thing left from the other onwe is the drum track). plus post production. that other version has nothing. check it out first on the list

Merkaba 06-12-2005 01:30 AM

I'll try to get some samples up Tomorrow...Sunday

I would love to get at stinkfist...or aenima

clearvision 06-12-2005 05:55 AM

Be my guest with aenima, i will get the guitars done soonish...I keep getting sidetracked with sleep.
