Are you kidding? Reverie/Harlequin Forest is one of the best on that album. The vocals are incredible.

Txus 10-21-2005 02:28 PM
harlequin forest is directionless. easily the weakest song on Ghost Reveries.
Baying of the hounds, ghost of perdition, even beneath the mire have now all grown on me. The soft songs are pretty much flawless too.
Oh man, this is my favorite GR song how can you say that?.....i love the song.

spacemanjack 10-21-2005 02:36 PM

I third that motion, Harlequin Forest is my favorite track on GR.

Anyone else absolutely dazzled by the part of Baying of the Hounds that starts at 5:40? In my book that is right up there with any other part they've done, maybe my favorite riff in the whole Opeth catalog (taking over from the outro to Moonlapse Vertigo).......seeing that live almost made me cry.

Baying of the hounds is my favorite track off GR, and that part is my favorite part out of the entire cd. I can literally feel the music when the keyboard synth comes in and takes me into a heavenly trance. I especially love that keyboard part of that riff section. Easily one of the best Opeth riff/sections ever, period.

Darkness 10-21-2005 04:11 PM

Baying Of The Hounds, Ghost Of Peridition, Beneath the Mire, in that order, are my favorite songs. :)

Kage 10-21-2005 04:17 PM

Hey, I'm seeing Opeth in a little under 4 hours, so I'm pretty psyched. Anyone who's been to a show on the current tour, what is the order of the bands? Who plays first? I need to know, because of ride arrangments, and if Fireball Ministry opens, then I won't mind being a little late.

I went to the Hollywood/LA show, and the opening band was "Eyes of fire" and they played for about 30-40 min.

here's a clip of the keyboard part of the amazing riff in "baying of the hounds."

Kage 10-21-2005 04:30 PM

So it was an opening band, and then Pelican came on?

UpperDecker 10-21-2005 05:10 PM

I love GR but it definitely isn't their best. Ghost of Perdition and Beneath The Mire are my favorite and Atonement and Hours of Wealth are my least favorite. Atonement is a good song there just seems to be alot of empty space in it. any comments?

Shadows 10-21-2005 05:12 PM

Atonement is my least favorite on the album. I like every song on GR except that one. There's just something about it; too boring. It's like filler.

yea, and there's that weird little riff they threw on the end for some reason. I do love that one drum beat in the song though. you know the one im talking about:naughty:

Shadows 10-21-2005 05:18 PM

Actually I have no idea.

Darkness 10-21-2005 05:21 PM

I find Isolation Years to be kinda crappy, its way to short and just kind of ends... weak ending for a CD IMO.

All man!Am I ever.Especially when the vocals come in.It makes me picture flames.I think of a scene from hell or something.I think that would make an awesome video.

Hours of Wealth is the only soft song on the album I seriously like. Isolation Years isn't too bad though.

Darkness 10-21-2005 06:09 PM

Hours of Wealth was decent.

Deth 10-21-2005 07:25 PM

Seeing how this is the only thread I know with Pelican fans in it, I bought Australasia today and it's incredible.

Go buy it.

Shadows 10-21-2005 07:29 PM

Very true. I had Australasia for a while, but I deleted it a while back. I should buy it.

Deth 10-21-2005 07:33 PM

I also got Agalloch's The Mantle, and anyone who doesn't have this album must buy it immediately.

Shadows 10-21-2005 07:34 PM

I'm not familiar with Agalloch, unfortunately.

Deth 10-21-2005 07:35 PM

Incredible band, fans of Opeth should really check them out.

The part where Mikael sings "It is all false pretension
Harlequin forest
Awaiting redemption for a lifetime
As they die alone
With no one by their side
Are they forgiven?" is pretty godly.

It easily beats out the whole "what would they say if I was gay.." part in Godheads, IMO. I never really saw the magic there.

You know, the famous line "what would they care if I was gay, no one would know, hooooomoooooo!"...

Umm...I don't own that album....but that line seems unbelievable.

Darkness 10-21-2005 08:57 PM

The real line is "What would they care if I did stay, no one would know, oooooOOOOOOOooooooo!"... and you don't own Still Life?

Sadly....I don't. I can't find it ANYWHERE. I want it so bad. It's the only Opeth album I don't have.

Darkness 10-21-2005 09:02 PM
