Kodo. They are amazing.
They live on their own island and they are nothing but a big drumming brotherhood on an island. |
I seriously hope you are joking.
That's almost the most close-minded statement I've ever heard, and I live in the Bible belt... the most closed-minded people in the states are right here. |
therefore thats why we always have the best in music... reminds me of when i heard a jap big band... uck
Idiot. British rock music is by far the best music ever created. |
^^^seriously. Every culture has great music.
Latin music isn't American. I love that music. Classical Chinese music isn't American... that stuff is great. I love Middle-Eastern drumming. and classical Japanese instruments are so cool. |
“If the literature we are reading does not wake us, why then do we read it? A literary work must be an ice-axe to break the sea frozen inside us.”
I'll give rep to anyone who can illustrate the meaning of that quote and make it sound good. |
Holy ****... funny as hell. This isn't porn (for forum rules sake), but there is female nudity. This is THE coolest video I've ever seen.

Boobies!!
Sweaty, oily, boobies! Jiggling! |
Yay, did my workout again today...it's good to feel my muscles :)
|
good stuff, huh.
|
Yeah it is :) And I do very basic training with weights. I've got 2 halters which weigh 2 KG (that's 4 lbs I guess), and just to stuff for my biceps, triceps, shoulders and chest. I want to keep the weights as they are now and just try to repeat every exercise till my muscles can't handle it :p
|
lol moog..
|
That's funny... whether or not you intentionally mixed Japanese and Chinese culture.
I did. That's how my friends and I are constantly, though, always laughing and having fun. You would swear we were little kids. Also, STOP SAYING HIP, YOU GUYSSSSS!!!! |
why people like thomas lang, andrew ceccarelli, marco minneman, virgil donati, etc. sound so dry and UNHIP compared to people like Gadd, Dennis, Weckl, Vinnie, etc
Mortals can't compete with Gods.;)
moogoo and company i think you miss the point
we are talking from late 19th century to present why all the major music movements have come from the US and why you see japs walking down the street with 80's punk dyed mohawks etc. i am very aware of the native musics of different countries but the unique property of hip (which means everything from innovation and cultural change to counterculture and social change) is american alone, and copied by everyone else
i get you point... America ftw..? :thumb: |
They can, but then you get the Ragnarok and nobody wins...
"The purpse of literature is to invigorate the reader; to open their eyes and minds and" That's 20 minutes of work, and it's still lame. =/ |
haha you're right futuro
well im glad you get what im saying zep although theres a lot of things i hate about america (white supremacy, bible belt, neo conservatism, etc) it is the only place for me
well, white supremacy is going a little overboard, no? i mean, thats a little behind us. |
but the unique property of hip (which means everything from innovation and cultural change to counterculture and social change) is american alone, and copied by everyone else
That's the problem. That's not true. You ever seen an "anime dork". perhaps listened to a latin clave pattern. These aren't American inspired. Claiming that everything innovative and hip is American is extremely narrow-minded. It's a bi-product of increasing internationalism. We weren't "hip" a couple hundred years ago... we have folk arts, but you don't see that catching on. America is a place where it can grow, but it isn't the only originator... by far. Actually, America is so damn mellow that it's disgusting. How many remade movies have come out in the last 5 years. Plus, in relevance to the reason of this whole conversation. Japanese taiko drumming is an incredible art form. Taiko drummers are super skilled, it doesn't take less or more skill than to play a drumset and it's not like it's a dying art. There are tons of practicing players and it's even big here in America... especially on the West Coast. |
そうですか。
ここででんしゃがありません。 うちからだいがくまでさんじゅじゅっぷんぐらいかかいます。 <--does that sound correct? how many years have you studied Japanese now?
Yeah, that sentence is correct :thumb: I'm in my third semester and it's getting really interesting now, although they go through everything pretty fast. You have to do a lot of self-studying or you won't pass the exams. And because of that, i have a load of Kanji to learn for a test tomorrow, so good night everybody :) |
you'd be surprised... living in the far north where there is NO diversity... people are very bigoted and hateful
thats not true.. not at ALL. i live in the north, and there is absolutely no hate whatsever. |
Yeah, that sentence is correct :thumb:

I should imagine Japanese is solid to learn right? Its not just a different language, its learning the alphabet too... ありがとうございました。??

Have you ever left the US? Where do you think Gadd, Weckl etc.. get their influences from? Latin maybe? African maybe? Indian maybe? Where did the modern snare drum originate from? Where did punk come from? Where did metal originate? Where did electronic music come from? ^ the answer is outside the US |
i live in New Jersey. so you were a little more north than me, but i mean, thats just one area, because no one in mine has like a huge problem with difference..

arigatou gozaimashita it means: thank you, and it's got a past tense addition so what I'm basically telling him is "thanks for talking with me" |
i'm back from break. school starts tomorrow. i've got a new set up i've been playing on. i'll take pics this weekend.

w0000t
so, theres this girl i like, and...... SHES A DRUMMER!!! omg!! w0000p has a sonor kit, that is apparently totally muffled except snare cos her 'rents are gay... |
i am beginning to see you just don't understand
you aren't citing anything that is hip at all.. you're making reference to pop culture... i described the change from hip to mainstream breifly before... that is the engine that keeps hip alive... the constant search for growth after something becomes mainstream being so into japan, i am surprised how uneducated you seem... anime began "when Japanese filmmakers experimented with the animation techniques that were being explored in the West." I thought that was common knowledge typical rebellious american youth... the stuff of ignorance
You're coming across as ignorant. |
don't be so stereotypically Super Cameron, i mean yea, there is alot of "rebellious youth" in america, but don't be a pessemist, and look at the good part, of the well educated, well mannered, [drummers :thumb:] like me :)
