Hey dude. I'm using XP with Western-European [ISO] coding. To allow non-english encoding in XP you need to install stuff off the driver disk which I cannot find.

Did you try the directions above, though.

I'm just curious if you can at least see it.
I have XP and I had to go on the internet to download the package.
Because you need it to be able to type in a foreign language, but I'm not sure that you need it to see the foreign language.

It doesn't like me; asks for a disk.

I believe the correct particle for that situation would be "ga" instead of "wa" otherwise instead of saying "[someone] is skilled at japanese" you are saying "Japanese language is skilled".

It's cool, though. I didn't know that so many people could read some hiragana.

Ichiban confused me the most out of that, the only word I knew solidly was doramaa :P

I should really start learning again. The only things I learned that really stuck were "O genki desu ka." and "Oyasuminasai". Mainly because I was learning from this really hot chick I talk to on msn.

I got boku, got doramaa, got no, got desu; I am drummer was all I got, I was going to hazard a guess at ichiban but it probably would've been "I am ___ of drums".

I didn't learn quite enough grammar to be able to have a decent conversation unfortunately.

Think I'll do my DVD-ROM later, when I can be bothered to reach down and switch the PC off.

Japanese grammar is pretty easy, it's the vocabulary (and most of all Kanji) and all the little "hyougen" that makes it difficult imo.

and since I've only just started Kanji, I'm having a hard time locating the meanings for those aside from 日本語 and 上手.

This is fun, though, let's start easier. For my sake, as it's clear that you have a good understanding.

and indeed, the "hyougen" are tough little bastards... but I've heard that English idioms are much more weird and numerous than Japanese.

I learned that no = of, ka. = ?, desu = to be (I think). That's about it.

Damn, I don't know anything. Would be nice to learn, though.

yeah, no = of, or often just a possessive particle.

Since you can't say Ichiban Doramaa, it sounds weird, you connect it with "no" indicating that ichiban is describing doramaa. hence "number one drummer"

you got those particles right.

I'd like to learn more, that's why I'm taking classes. I'd also like to be able to practice. My one friend who was taking the class with me is a numbskull and can't remember **** about languages so I usually have no one to practice with.

So if you've got questions, ask here, I've got a bit of knowledge and Kosmo is also apparently got experience with the language.
