if i had to pick favorites from each era of metallica, i'd say:

Kill Em' All: Seek and Destroy and the Four Horsemen
Ride the Lightning: For Whom the Bell Tolls and Creeping Death
Master of Puppets: Battery, Master of Puppets, and Disposable Heroes
...And Justice for All: Harvester of Sorrow, Dyers Eve, and Eye of the Beholder
Metallica: Sad But True, the Unforgiven, Don't Tread on Me, and My Friend of Misery
Load: Until it Sleeps, King Nothing, and Bleeding Me
Re-Load: Carpe Diem Baby, Low Man's Lyric, Fixxxer, and the Memory Remains
Garage Inc.: Astronomy, Whiskey in the Jar, It's Electric, Am i Evil?, So What, Die, Die My Darling
....and though St. Anger is my least favorite, i would have to say: Frantic, Some Kind of Monster(i love playing that on my bass) Invisible Kid, My World, and All Within my Hands....wheww...there it is
id say
Kill Em' All:: same
Ride the Lightning:: Ride the Lightning and Fade to Black
Master of Puppets:: Master of Puppets, Orion, Saniterium
...And Justice For All:: AJFA, One, Dyers Eve
Metallica:: Sad But True, Holier Than Thou, Of Wolf and Man, Nothing Else Matters, Unforgiven
Load:: King Nothing
Re-Load:: Memory Remains, Fixxxer
Garage Inc.:: Whiskey in the Jar
St Anger:: Frantic
Some Kind of Monster:: Invisible Kid

ok those are mine
for you guitarists....

what metallica songs can you play? and what woyld be some good 'tallica songs for me to learn
i've been playing guitar for 10 months now self taught, and thanks to the help of the internet and guitar pro 4, i can play these songs:
GUITAR: one, fade to black (forgot that one earlier), enter sandman, dyers eve (minus beginning of solo), for whom the bell tolls, fight fire with fire (minus solo) master of puppets, call of ktulu (minus solo), unforgiven, james's part in ride the lightning and im trying to learn to live is to die right now. but maybe i can play a few more. i can actually play most of anesthesia by cliff on my guitar

BASS: mop........ fade to black....... one and enter sandman. most of for whom the bell tolls....... actually i can play all the songs jason wrote mostly, but any song that cliff wrote takes a while

DRUMS: All songs except ones that use double bass ex one or dyers eve (i can't kick with 2 legs too fast yet).

i'd say im doing pretty well so far.

He meant the same as the poster he quoted.

Metallica_Fiend13 11-17-2004 01:19 PM

Did anyone watch The CMT Outlaws when James made a Guest Appearence?

Blanka Flip 11-17-2004 01:46 PM

I missed it actually...Is it on any websites?

chuckles the silly piggy 11-17-2004 02:27 PM

I can play every single Cliff song on bass
dont bother with jason s a bit boring

angerydog77 11-17-2004 02:36 PM

I've been playing Metallica for a while now and I can play most of thier good songs like Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Whiskey in the Jar,etc.

We_Did_die_young 11-17-2004 02:56 PM

jason's basslines arent exactly boring, my friend of mysery is a badass bass line/intro, holier than thou is pretty bad too

Metallica_Fiend13 11-17-2004 03:25 PM

CMT's been playing re-runs of it i know, i don't know if it's been on any websites

chuckles the silly piggy 11-17-2004 03:28 PM

the other good jason line is king nothing which is piss easy along with all his other stuff.if you want a ****ing hard bass line try Call Of Ktulu.

Metallica_Fiend13 11-17-2004 03:29 PM

i like jason's bass solos he does on the dvd's, though a good majority of them are medleys, like on live sh*t, san diego, he does the My Friend of Misery line, then goes crazy into that fast thing he does, then goes into the bass solo of orion and etc...then on Cunning Stunts, that bass/guitar doodle, he does that little solo of his to start with, then my friend of misery, then kirk joins in, then they go into the intro of Sanitarium, then jump into Nothing Else Matters...but basically "My Friend of Misery" is his best work, Cliff's stuff was a lot better, thats a no brainer, but Jason had his great moments

Metallica_Fiend13 11-17-2004 03:31 PM

on bass i mostly learn Cliff songs, isn't much to Jason songs, i like My Friend of Misery, King Nothing, God That Failed, and Devil's Dance of Jason's, thats about all the exciting songs with Jason to play on bass all with Cliff are fun fun fun

Metallica_Fiend13 11-17-2004 03:32 PM
if you want a ****ing hard bass line try Call Of Ktulu.
agreed :thumb:

JACKROXYOU 11-17-2004 04:02 PM

Yes that was amazing.

Metallica came to Houstan's Toyota Center and rocked. Two hours of pure Metallica.

Best part they only played 2 St. Anger songs. No for whom the bells toll. ****

Seek and destroy, Dirty window, Master of the Puppets, One, Sanitarium, Nothing Else Matters, Battery, Creeping Death, whereever I may roam, and a couple others I cant remember the others cause a bunch of stoners were smoken up a storm.

That's awesome, too bad I live no where near there, so I couldn't go and see it. :upset:

Mister_Che 11-17-2004 04:25 PM

(my first post ever)

I've learned mostly Cliff's stuff (Orion mainly), although I'd still pick Jason over Trujillo anyday.
my first post ever
Welcome!

We_Did_die_young 11-17-2004 05:13 PM

cliff was the better bassist hands down, but jason paid his dues and hey when i saw then when jason was the bassist the guy wouldnt stand still jumping around banging his head the guy always gave 110% during a show, i cant say the same for cliff b/c i never got the honor to watch him, but maybe he did the same, ive seen tidbits of cliff'em all and he does look like he did the same, rob trujillo, is badass on stage too, i say them spokane march 21 04, and he gets down with the best of them lots of energy. agreed call of ktulu is a pretty hard bassline, but it sounds so badass

Arucard 11-17-2004 05:40 PM

i have RTL and think its a masterpiece of thrash, what do i buy next.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 11-17-2004 05:43 PM

And Justice for All, Kill em all, Master of Puppets. Anyone of those.

j_p 11-17-2004 05:47 PM
i liked metallica's older stuff better than there new (who doesn't?), but my favorite song out of all would be master of puppets.

i like how it goes from there normal stuff in that song, to nice and soft and slow, then to unique solo's

i also like enter sandman, its a preety well balanced song.

lets try to keep this thread alive
hey liketoplaydrums10111 i totally agree with u about the old stuff better. I really like the ride the lightning album. The only thing i dont like about kill em all is its sort of more hardrockish than the heavy ****. i just started playing the guitar and enter sandman was the first thing i learned how to play. all of it. even the solo. my favourite song is probably puppetz as well. i just figured out the solo :thumb:

Kickflip_Burrito 11-17-2004 05:48 PM

Kill 'Em All, Master of Puppets and Black Album for sure, no question about it.

crossface 11-17-2004 05:48 PM

I just watch the Metallica:Cunning stunts dvd... and it was good but they skipped some of my favorite solos(mop). Ive got a question, is the whole scene when they were playing Am I evil scripted???? Im talking about the part where some guys went up the stage and went crazy and destroyed the set. is it scripted?

Mister_Che 11-17-2004 06:01 PM

yep, they call it the "destruction scene"

2 of the tech guys talk about it in the special features.

guitarfrog 11-17-2004 07:36 PM

my favorites:
kill em all: jump in the fire
ride the lightning: escape
master of puppets: orion
justice for all: one
metallica: wherever i may roam
load/reload: king nothing
garage inc: helpless
