It's hard to imagine what it'll look like... Gotoh work out about $20 cheaper, but they also have either "bass or treble" side, I don't know what that means, I assume it means the top or bottom of the headstock. I may as well just get chrome schaller ones. They're in a 4inline package anyway.
It's all relative to a right-handed bass - bass are the top of the headstock, treble are the bottom.

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 09:56 AM

God dammit, I wanted a black pickguard but they're out of stock.

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 09:57 AM
$174.84 AUD:

3 gotoh tuners + 1 hipshot shipped to Australia. (you can actually order through basspartsresource.com)
It'd be almost exactly 200 if I do it through guitarparts.co.nz...

But I'm second guessing the hipshot now.

Ah right. That explains a bit.

EDIT: actually about 185.

gaslight 09-18-2009 09:58 AM

I wouldn't worry about a hipshot. Honestly man unless you're looking to change mid-song or something it's fair simple to tune a string down a tone. In my view the usefulness of it is limited to like freaky Manring **** having like four at a time and doing weird stuff.

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 10:05 AM

Yes, this was my problem/concern.

May as well just get these:

http://www.guitarparts.co.nz/cart/Details.cfm?ProdID=854&category=

They WILL work on a normal right handed bass right? They look left handed in the picture.

gaslight 09-18-2009 10:09 AM

Hmm. I wouldn't want to make that call for you man, check with the store to be certain, I'd hate to get it wrong.

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 10:11 AM

That's true, I'll ask now and buy my other items (straplocks and knobs) in the meantime. I would just buy the gotoh (about $60 cheaper) but they're out fo stock at the moment.

gaslight 09-18-2009 10:15 AM

I've got Schaller straplocks that I'm diggin', top marks :).

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 10:18 AM

The removable type ones?

I won't have to wear my bass so high like a nugget and can swing it around a bit when they arrive :D

gaslight 09-18-2009 10:21 AM

Yeah you screw in the new strap pegs and then the holder clips on to your strap itself, there's a pull-release system to let it on and off the pegs. It's great stuff.

Nothing wrong with wearing your bass high :p, well, unless it's too high.

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 10:23 AM

I've watched about 3 hours of footage of me playing and i dunno, it just looks a bit... stilted? Just not as natural as I want to look I guess. To get the body down as low as feels good when jumping about the neck is up above a 45 degree angle.

gaslight 09-18-2009 10:30 AM

Well yeah, I suppose if you want to factor in freedom of movement while jumping around and all that, you're going to end up with a different ideal height than the whole, "sitting position" rule.

FunkMetalBass 09-18-2009 10:30 AM

Why not order all of your stuff through BPR and just have it sent to AUS? It'll be a longer wait time, but with just tuners alone, you're saving $20.

I agree about the neck being at a steeper angle being more comfortable. When I order this new neck for my Fender, I'm going to sand it down a bit and put the Hipshot Ultralites on it to take weight off of the neck and make it. I'll probably still add some lead into the control cavity for added body weight to get that steeper angle. I'm hoping the high-mass Hipshot bridge, the string ferrules, and a new preamp will make it heavier.

I think I'm also going to bore out a hole and get install a side jack in the jazz so that I can install my old SD preamp and utilize the fourth hole in the control plate.

I have like 6 straps now, I've got my 3.5" padded one for practise and a normal one for shows, I'll just lengthen that one a bit.

I can get 4 gotoh tuners for $85, as far as convenience goes even if it's more expensive I'm happy to pay it rather than dicking around with international transfers.

I've got a series/parallel switch snuck in between the output jack and the tone pot. I'm still 50/50 with whether I prefer front or bottom jack.

Haha that's a hefty strap collection.

I just have one of those $20 ones, I had a nice leather one but this chick stole it.

I have 3 nylon one, all the same series, police line, biohazard and toxic. A cotton weave fender one, a cheap leather fender one I stole (don't ask) and a padded Australian leather one I bought.

gaslight 09-18-2009 10:48 AM

Love those theme ones. No bullet belt strap?

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 10:50 AM

No, not yet :p

My guitarist has one that looks like (and possibly is) a seatbelt.

I use the side jack with right-angle cables so that the cables fit nicely up into my strap.

I'm scared to do this much drilling and physical modification to the bass, but I'm confident that I can do the ferrule holes with no problems (thank god I own a drill press).

I have one for every bass, every guitar, and 2 extras. I also have straploks for all of them.

:upset:

I have issues.

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 10:55 AM

Yeah I do that as well, make me feel a lot more comfortable.

gaslight 09-18-2009 10:55 AM

Haha, one per bass is perfectly sensible, and depending on your number of basses you could justify a few spares. I mean the ideal situation is to have a back-up for every piece of gear you have. Straps are one of the few pieces of gear that that is actually practical for.

Right.

If I have time on Saturday, I'm going to start going through every piece of gear that I own and deciding what needs the upgrade (I believe some of my guitars are in need of straplocks, one needs a bridge saddle fix, some just need new strings). I'm then going to sell off all of the extraneous parts that I have from past mods/upgrades and finally get my musical life in order.

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 11:13 AM

Oh my GOD. I am painfully tired all of a sudden.

FunkMetalBass 09-18-2009 11:22 AM

FatBandit, if you read this later, what pickup do you have in your Shuker?

fatbandit 09-18-2009 11:24 AM
you need to follow the directions nub l2torrent
I followed them to the letter as far as I can see!

If you know what needs doing different though, holla!

funkyhoney 09-18-2009 11:36 AM

Shite, it be talk like a pirate day again already.

fatbandit 09-18-2009 11:47 AM

You psychically pre-empted me there FMB D:

The pickup in my Shuker is one that Delano made for me.
