I always wondered... Burton uses 24 frets in Anesthesia, yet he used a Ric. How?

Radiobass81 04-16-2005 07:13 AM

For melodies, and playing my favorite songs :p.

And, you do know that the Steinberger I'm buying is less then $400, so a $800 G&L would be a tad to expensive ATM :p.

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:14 AM

And does anybody have 'The Groove' by Muse hanging around so I can listen. People seem to reckon its pretty good.

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:16 AM

have it on my pc.. i find it pretty noisy realy...

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:17 AM

Can I rob it off you over MSN?

It's magic.

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:18 AM

Argh I just noticed a really ugly scratch on my bass. Half of it will be covered by my hand when I play, I guess...
Can I rob it off you over MSN?
do i have you on my MSN? if not, Dancing_with_the_dead@hotmail.com

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:19 AM

I'm sorry, as much as I love the 'magic' or 'a wizard did it' (I must say, I use them all them time...) excuses, it won't hold in this case.
Argh I just noticed a really ugly scratch on my bass. Half of it will be covered by my hand when I play, I guess...
im selling my bass with 2 into the wood dents in the finish.. i better find some paint to take over it...

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:23 AM

Hmm. If I ever sell this, it has a number of dings, ugly scratches in the end of the headstock (from hitting it into a coffee grinder  ), and a number of other injuries, including that scratch and number of dents and scratches in the back of the neck. I hope the 'it adds character' argument holds up... :upset:

Maybe he did insane bends?

Pinch harmonics?

Maybe it wasn't on his Ric, but on his Alembic?

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:26 AM

well... insane bends might be it... i have seen jason newsted almost drag the b string of the fretboard....

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:27 AM

I've seen clips of him playing live. It was his second gig with Metallica, definitely the Ric. He did do insane bends, I must say. Not sure how he managed to get some of them. That could be it. His playing style doesn't look to include pinch harmonics, and its definitely a fretted note, not a harmonic.

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:29 AM

fuck i was scared... it looked like my bridge have started to rust.. thank god it only was the light...

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:29 AM

I can't see why Newsted would be bending like that

If it is on the B, above the 5th fret, why not just use the E string? And if I bend my B, I bend it towards the centre of the fretboard, not to the edge. It makes more sense that way. Unless you mean he was bending it so far, it was going towards the G string side of the fretboard?

Either way, Burton's bends are pretty funkay. Just because of the tension on the G string. Be a lot easier if it was a B!

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:31 AM

That Muse song is okay... It sounds like they're harking back to the Showbiz/OOS days (which is a good thing in my book. Absolution was a pit poo IMO...), but it doesn't quite pull it off in the same way as Plug In Baby etc.

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:33 AM

it looks way cooler! :p

yeah..my favorite muse song ATM is Bliss.... and New born

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:34 AM

g string side yeah....

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:34 AM

Bliss is cool, but I love Citizen Erased. The very easy, but incredibly phat bassline rocks.

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:35 AM

The biggest problem I have with insane bends is getting the other strings out of the way to make way for the string you're bending.

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:38 AM

OOS is a great album indeed, i love it.

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:40 AM

you have to have very strong fingertips... but i dont dare to try, cause i aint rich and couldnt aford new strings if i killed it..:p

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:43 AM

Just tried some insane string bending.

Ow.

I'll leave that for now

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:45 AM

I have new strings, but don't know when I should change them. Maybe now. For no reason.

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:45 AM

i have a pack of flatwounds lying here, but i dont feel like changing strings now...

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:47 AM

I have no wire cutters, so its gonna take ages to wind the strings back on, haha.

I'll have your flats if you don't need them ATM... :D

good rats 04-16-2005 07:48 AM

Hey guys, I'm back.

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:49 AM

they where bloody expensive, noi way im giving them away :p

but ill wait until i can get an overdrive with putting them on... then i can make em sound more like roundwounds to....(im gonna need an adapter to that pedal or im gonna get poor on batteries...)

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:52 AM

i think im gonna change soon... my e string feels like it will die in some days....:p

good rats 04-16-2005 07:55 AM

I've always wanted to try flatwounds on a fretted. When I get a new bass, I'll put flatwounds on my current one. :thumb:

fatbandit 04-16-2005 07:56 AM

Hmm. They spelt Jason Newsted wrong on the back of the Ernie Ball string packs.

Thunder Fingers 04-16-2005 07:57 AM

jason newsted mainly use Labella realy.. as i have read, and they spell his name corect :p

fatbandit 04-16-2005 08:04 AM

Maybe its just some guy called Jason Nestead then, not the Newsted formerly of Metallic? :P

tenorbass 04-16-2005 08:04 AM

hey

good rats 04-16-2005 08:06 AM

Hey Tenorbass.

And Fatbandit, they spelt my name on the pack of the Ernie Ball string packet.

tenorbass 04-16-2005 08:06 AM

good rats 04-16-2005 08:07 AM

Not much dude, I've gotta go back to school in a few days. Which sucks cause my school is just bad. But hey! At least it's my birthday in a few days. 20th April.
