Opeth need videos, and some cliche' videos either, something epic, inspiring to whichever song they plan to make one out of. I'd like to see a video to The Moor. That would kick-arse!
No they don't.

Kaiwaz 12-18-2005 04:05 PM

Don't deny it...you know you would like to see it. :chug:

TojesDolan 12-18-2005 04:05 PM

Ve Das, I don't think being random in an Official thread will be very appreciated.

There's the pit to do that, you know.

Not really, going by their last video someone will screw it up somehow.

I have never needed to go into the pit.The pitīs lame.

So,tell me,whatīs your take on the best singer poll concerning Mr. Akerfeldt?

I think he deserves it. He has a lot of range.

Ve Das 12-18-2005 04:11 PM

Range isnīt everything, you know.Iīd say technique also plays an important role...

That's different. That video had nothing to do with Opeth, I'm sure of it. Opeth are so talented and deep, they could make a revolutionary video to any one of their songs.

Neurotoxin 12-18-2005 04:16 PM

Question: why do keep bolding the O on Opeth?

I would love to see a good Opeth video.
A video for Black Rose Immortal could be good if it's done by the right people, but isn't Opeth all about the music?.

I don't think Akerfeldt deserves to win the singer competition, as an Opeth member he's perfect but as a single singer, he isn't the best.

TojesDolan 12-18-2005 04:19 PM

Because we don't have ye olde English font to make the super cool O opeth has in it's name. :)

On a related note, I think Carrot top should win the best singer.

I agree. He has that down too. I'm not saying he's the best, but he's damn good.

I'd say he's in about at least the top 5. Maybe even 3.

Yeah, I agree in some ways. Black Rose Immortal should not have a video. It would ruin my vision of the song that I have had in my head for years. When it comes to videos, I'd think a song from Ghost Reveries would be well suited...preferably Ghost Of Perdition.

I'd put Steven Wilson before him.

I love it! Among my favorite parts to an Opeth song.

It's partially one of the reasons why Orchid snuck up to #2 on my list for a while. And because of Silhouette, and The Twilight is my Robes, and The Apostle in Triumph.

Where's the Orchid loving :(

Reveries smeveries hey guess what nobody cares!
I'd put Steven Wilson before him.
I certainly wouldn't. Steve's pretty good, but I like Akerfeldt a LOT more. I find Steve's tone gets a little annoying/bland at times. He's better as a producer. :thumb:

Say whhhaaaat? Wilson's melodic singing is way above Akerfeldt's.

You're okay in my book. :thumb: I won't rant on Orchid, I'll just drink to that! :chug: :chug:

My favorite song is on Orchid too, The Forest of October.

God I love that song, seriously...the mood on Orchid cannot be topped. IDGAF. I can't decide which I like most, Orchid or Morningrise. As soon as I come to a conclusion, I always question myself a few weeks later  I can't decide! I guess it all depends on what season it is, and what my brain pattern decides at that particular moment.

Maybe this is old news, but in sputnik.com( MX'S cd review site), Opeth isn't in the metal section anymore, they are now under the rock section.

That is weird.

That makes me wanna go jump off a building head first into a thumb tac.

Quickdrop 12-18-2005 05:15 PM

Roadrunner has a bunch of top 10 lists from TV/Radio hosts, and other bands and what not. Ghost Reveries is in atleast half of them...good stuff

Ghost Reveries was basically a prog rock album with a few death metal vocal lines... :p

No, it was pretty much the standard almost-impossible-to-classify Opeth album.

I'd definetly not call any album prog rock except Damnation. If you can only put them in one reasonable genre, I would make them Metal or Progressive Metal.

Darkness 12-18-2005 05:38 PM

 I call them progressive metal to, it's just that Ghost Reveries was really soft compared to the others. Still metal, but just not as heavy as the other albums.

Toaster 12-18-2005 05:45 PM

The main thing is that Opeth is more progressive than death metal. I do agree with this, and since there's no "prog metal" genre on Sputnik, Opeth go under "Progressive".

I'd say GR was as heavy as their other releases, but there was more clean singing.. so I guess an argument could be made for both sides.

RouteOne 12-18-2005 05:48 PM

I would just say Opeth is melodic deathmetal.

Darkness 12-18-2005 05:51 PM

....

Really? As heavy as Deliverance? My Arms, Your Hearse? Blackwater Park?

Toaster 12-18-2005 05:54 PM

Without a doubt. Sure, there are more soft songs, but the album has such a dark feeling around it that the heavy parts seem so much heavier.
