I forgot how cool Forgotten Tales are, even if they do dress like a bunch of French Canadian hobos. Production is kinda iffy, but music is top notch.

Is the singer good? Cause bands with a girl for vocals.. don't know but I can't listen to a whole album in one shot.

Shattered_Future 03-08-2008 11:18 AM

They put too much echo on her voice production-wise and she has a few really shrill moments, but overall she does quite a good job.

jrowa001 03-08-2008 11:22 AM
Boomerang's Sounds of Sirens is pretty awesome. Their vocalist sounds like a mix between Bruce Dickinson and James Hetfield. Also, Avantasia's The Scarecrow is top notch as well.
awesome album right there. do you know if their other albums are any good?

That is the only album I've heard too, lol.

Deth 03-08-2008 01:18 PM

I have the Metal Opera Pt.1 and it's good despite (or because of idk) it's excessive cheesiness.

CityOfEvil 03-08-2008 01:19 PM

Anyone listen to Persuader? I have The Hunter. Amazing album especially the song The Hunter.

CityOfEvil 03-08-2008 01:28 PM

When is this supposed to happen?

jrowa001 03-08-2008 02:44 PM

so as i am laying in bed all day sick, i had a bunch albums i had planned to listen to but i hit a bump in the road. i came across an album i had waiting to listen to for a little while so i decided to put it in. now my other albums i had planned to play have been set back. the album i am talking about is.....

Heavenly - Sign of the Winner

some seriously good power metal. right now its a 4/5 but might be bumped up to 4.5

BludgeonySteve 03-08-2008 02:52 PM

What are some power metal bands that have a band ideology? There are a bunch of bands that just write crappy fantasy lyrics and then shred their asses off, but I'm starting to like the ones whose lyrics triumph goodness and righteousness and all of that. Maybe Axenstar, Lost Horizon, some Rhapsody?

pate 03-08-2008 03:31 PM

There

Deth 03-08-2008 04:43 PM

**** off being at school when an awesome show is going on at home.

It's without Edguy though, so that softens the blow.

pate 03-08-2008 05:07 PM

My date is a Saturday. :p

jrowa001 03-08-2008 05:18 PM

i might got to Oct. 26th show

WHAT?!

Balls, it's when I'm off at college.

Although that might work in my favor, depending on where I'll be...if I'm in the city, I'm golden, provided I can scrape funds together.

Riva 03-09-2008 01:11 AM

It'd be nice if a power metal band would, just once, tour the north of Australia. :(

1338 h4x0r 03-09-2008 01:16 AM

Kamelot is a band I discovered pretty recently, along with Dark Moor. I recommend Dark Moor a lot ... they're kind of neoclassical but in a tastefully subdued and not at all bombastic way

/cue Fabio Lione wailing over Dvořák's Ninth

Iron Bars 03-09-2008 04:57 AM

Dark Moor was pretty good when they still had that female vocalist, after that it went down hill fast.

pate 03-09-2008 09:56 AM

Agreed

Steerpike 03-09-2008 10:55 AM

I'm trying desperately to find a way to make it to the Kamelot/Edguy show in Cleveland.

Shadows Within 03-09-2008 11:18 AM

i was just saying yesterday how i would kill to see Kamelot live... now there coming to Cambridge! i gotta decide on Dream Theater, BTBAM, Opeth or the Symphony X, Epica, IE OR the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival...and now this one. kamelot has to be one though.

Poet 03-13-2008 06:59 PM

So Firewind's new album is pretty awesome. :)

I would have said go to the New England Metal Fest, but there's only a few bands there that would be worth seeing...I thought there were more.

Symphony X definately, if you haven't seen them yet. They're absolutely fantastic live. I'm so pissed that we have a play performance on the night they're gonna be here.

as are Firewind in general :)

Shattered_Future 03-14-2008 10:04 AM

Never liked Firewind. I think Gus G is better when somebody else is writing the music (Dream Evil).

Apollo Papathanasio is such a good vocalist though. Definitely top 5 favorite Power Metal vocalists.

Dream Evil is amazing.

Shattered_Future 03-14-2008 04:19 PM

Dream Evil is indeed amazing. Not so much now, but Dragonslayer and The Book Of Heavy Metal were fantastic.

pate 03-15-2008 09:38 AM

No way, United is by far their best album. The Book of Heavy Metal is terrible.

I'm going on Saturday, the lineup is solid aside from like 5 really shitty -core bands.

CityOfEvil 03-15-2008 02:02 PM

 I downloaded Dream Evil - Dragonslayer and the last song is Wisdom of the Kings from Rhapsody. Don't know why it's there but well. It's good so it doesn't matter.

1338 h4x0r 03-15-2008 04:16 PM

There are only two power metal bands on my last.fm top ten this week, Stormwarrior and Rhapsody, down there at the bottom.

What's wrong with me?

Shattered_Future 03-15-2008 05:10 PM

You're becoming more of a man?

Or less of a man?

Sometimes it's hard to tell with power metal.

Pate - United sucks. They got rid of 2 of the best elements of Dream Evil, Snowy and Gus. BOHM is miles better, and it's great how it doesn't take itself too seriously.

pate 03-15-2008 05:22 PM

United is elite. Snowy didn't bring anything good to the band, and they got a guy who can solo just as well as Gus. Did I mention the songs are way better? :p
You're becoming more of a man?

More, in the case that Rhapsody dropped several ranks.

Except that they're totally not. They're ****in' boring. Whereas BOHM's music was cheesy and a bit butt-rocky to the point where it came full circle and sounded awesome.
