High Hopes is a surprisingly good song in my opinion. The Division Bell has some really good songs, and then just some incredibly boring songs.
|
Does anyone here have Is There Anybody Out There, and would they be willing to upload it or trade for it?
I have it somewhere, but don't know where unfortunately :upset: If I can find it, I'll upload it for you. |
I like the new name....Dark Side of the Forum. I still would've like to see:
Alan's Psycadelic Thread(Pink Floyd) What do you think? |
I like the title now. It's creative without being too obscure, so everyone still knows what it is.

Yeah, I really like High Hopes. The lyrics are really cool, and the slide guitar solo is unbelieveable. Probably my favorite Gilmour solo after Comfortably Numb, Time, and Shine On. Plus it had an increadably strange music video. |
I was unaware Pink Floyd made music videos. Eh, I guess I'm just ignorant in the music video field.
|
Want me to upload it?
Yeah, that song is just amazing. My favorite part is actually the intro, with the kickass synt pattern, the perfectly placed fret-less bass, and the simple guitar riff from Gilmour. The solo at the end is amazing, but after dogs its not as good.
God Yes. |

They made them for their concerts in the 80s and 90s. I'll upload the High Hopes one if I can get it on my computer. |
I'm doing a cover of Mother with The Flabbit Rides High. Anyone want to play drums or bass? Also, if anyone knows that little keyboard bit, that would be cool too.

The slide so really isn't that great to me. I think its nothing compared to the power of the one off SOYCD. |
I Agree abou SOyCD but High Hopes solo is awesome too.
|
What does SOYCD stand for?
All this decoding of crap like DSOTM and WYWH is making my brain hurt. |
Shine On You Crazy Diamond

imo, SOYCD > High Hopes, but High hopes puts on a hell of a fight. Slide Solo on SOYCD is insane when your actually playing it though. It seems a bit repetitive with some fills thrown in, but when gilmour goes to the 31st (imaginery) fret, the accuracy can not be touched by any other guitarist. I sound like Im murdering dolphins when i try to play that...but i try. |

Oh, right. Thanks. Ya that's a cool song. At least the first one is. I haven't heard the second one, though. |
David Gilmour's s/t is pretty cool so far. The guitar is really awesome, even though the lyrics aren't very meaningful.

That's exactly what I found too...I have it on vinyl. I listen to it now and again, but sometimes it just seems like more of a tribute, than a pleasure to listen to it. I've never figured out just what it is, but I think you've got it. I just came here to tell you guys, that if you have that Windows Media Player thing where it shows the cool designs that go with the music...you should put on Welcome to the Machine (although I'm sure any Floyd will do the trick...) and turn that Windows thing to full screen so all you see is the crazy designs and stuff, and just watch it go with the music. It's so amazing. I'm gonna do it again, I've just gotta figure out which song to use now. edit - Amateurs... :p  |
I'm obsessing trying to get a gilmour-ish tone right now :/
I'm obsessing trying to get a gilmour-ish tone right now :/
Heh heh...I obsessed over that about six months ago. I got it perfect....I know exactly what to set it at if I want that clean (SOYD, ABITH solo type tone...) and to get the more overdriven (Time, that's basically what I tried to perfect it to) tone. It's perfect. Although everyone who has a half decent knowledge of Pink Floyd usually comments immediately on how Gilmourish my tone is. I tell them it's just the perfect tone. ;) edit- and did you know they closed the "Should Cannibus Be Legalized?" thread!? That's outragous! |

That's outragous!
I was very upset about the thread closing. :( Right now my tone is actually decent. Well, it's not decent, but I'm happy with it and it's probably the best I'll get from my gear (Epiphone Les Paul, Marshall MG15, PodXT). It's running through an emulated 1987 Roland JAzz Amp (Andy Summers of The Police used it for most of their stuff) with bumped up mids and bass and the treble a little flat. The overdrive is at about 3, so the control of the crunch is really the hands. The harder I hit it, I can get a nice tube-overdrive sound, but still play really clean if I want to. Also running a U-Vibe and some Reverb, noise gate, and a Fuzz box that is usually off, but switches on for distortion (duh). I'm pretty happy with it :D |

I use a Epiphone Black Beauty 3 (neck pickup is the most beautiful tone I've ever heard) and a Marshall DSL. I've got various effects pedals if I need them (the amp has reverb, and I rarely need to go past that...although sometimes I like delay or flange.) But it sounds absolutely perfect...I can turn it to the Ultra Gain setting and crank the distortion all the way...theres a mid scoop button that makes it perfect. I turn the presence up all the way (some Marshalls don't have that though, I've got an MG30) and it sounds perfect. Bass is about 7 or 8, Mid is about 4, Treble is about 6 or 7. edit- the strange thing is...when I crank the distortion up all the way (like I mentioned) it doesn't get any more distorted than Gilmour in Time...or that guitar that follows the vocals on Another Brick in the Wall part 2. That's why some people hate Marshall DSL's...because they don't give out crippling distortion. But that's why I like them. I think this belongs more in the Guitar forum, but I'm sure people don't mind. |
Discussion about Gilmour belongs everywhere ;)
Listening to DSOTM the other day, I realized that David Gilmour is simply my favorite soloist, ever. ps neck pickups own, the only time I switch to bridge or both is if I'm just getting too much bass for what I'm playing. The crappy speaker in my amp can't handle too much. Eventually I want to pick up a Mesa Boogie Rect-O-Verb 2x12 so I can stop complaining about my crappy amp. |
Awesome. Gilmour is definitely my favourite soloist. The man knew how to write and play the most beautiful pieces of music on his guitar. I melt into jelly when I listen to it. I'm trying to get my soloing skills up to his level....right now I'd say I'm sitting a little below Neil Young.
edit- and not Neil Young in terms of songwriting skills....strickly guitar skills. No one touches Neil Young (except Dylan of course). Jesus Christ I need people to talk to in the Classic Rock thread. |
I think I killed the thread. I'm listening to Saucerful of Secrets right now (the album..although right now I'm actually on the song. Strange coincedence). Did Barret only write Jugband Blues on this album? I wish he wrote more, not that Water's songs were anything short of brilliant.

Gotta love the lyrics of Keep On Rockin' In The Free World. |

Yea, Barrett just wrote Jugband Blues. Great song though. |

I think that song is one of the worst songs ever recorded. |
My tone is pretty close to Gilmour's. Not exact, but I love my tone, and don't really want to change it.
Since there was a bit of talk about pickups (I was too lazy to read all the posts), what do you all think of Lindy Fralin pickups? I've got one in my neck, and love it. I used to prefer the bridge setting, but now refuse to leave the neck setting. /late |
