I'm sure you get asked this question a million times, but can you guys recommend me some technical power metal?

Just not guys like Manowar... in my opinion they're too cheesy. I'm not into cheesy music, tbh.
Well nobody really answer you so Ill try, but it might be cheesy so..

I love Freedom Call so you can check this out. Lost Horizon is great and Rhapsody too. You have to listen to Blind Guardian if you haven't.

Riva 03-05-2008 05:10 PM

I already said Lost Horizon. You better not try to steal my recommendations, meboyo.

CityOfEvil 03-05-2008 05:14 PM

 Well it just say it is a good recommendation, but sorry man. Not Lost Horizon Riva already said it :thumb:

Shattered_Future 03-05-2008 05:15 PM

Blind Guardian aren't cheesy? That's like saying Mark Wahlberg isn't manly...

pate 03-05-2008 06:00 PM

Lord
Dungeon

They are pretty boring, but Spread Your Fire is cool.

A Night At The Opera=best BG album.

1338 h4x0r 03-05-2008 06:27 PM

IftOS is just plain boring tbh

i still need to get that Lord album. and Dungeon rules
I already said Lost Horizon. You better not try to steal my recommendations, meboyo.
Lost Horizon = pure aural pwnage. Welcome Back has to be my favourite song by them, it's so addictive.

Lord and Dungeon are good. the Live in Japan album by Dungeon pretty damn good, but the studio one's great. and Footsteps in the Sand by Lord pwns.

1338 h4x0r 03-05-2008 07:04 PM

Idk Lord, but Dungeon and Lost Horizon, I heartily agree, are pwn h4x

Poet 03-05-2008 07:12 PM

Highlander (The One) and World Through My Fateless Eyes are my favorite Lost Horizon songs. IMO, those are the two best power metal songs ever as well.

Lord is pretty much Dungeon under a new name

Shadows Within 03-05-2008 07:59 PM

Tim occasionally post on here too amirite?

Apocalyptic Raids 03-05-2008 08:03 PM

yeah. not for a while though.

It was probably confusing you for Daniel Heiman when he hits those wails (pun indeed intended) throughout the song.

The Allfather, the Hanged God, the Lord of Men, is the supreme judge of heroic things. He has personally reviewed this post and determined that it is up to Valhalla's quality standards. The author is permitted to enter the heroic realm of Asgard upon death. In the meantime, the author will be given a cask of Odin's favorite mead.

/must spread

BludgeonySteve 03-05-2008 08:16 PM

I've started to call wails war cries. It's just more metal. :smash:

Disagree. Love that album.

As for Lost Horizon. Keep saying that the best one IMO is Pure. Can't stop listening to it.

Highlander(The One) is awesome tough.

Riva 03-05-2008 10:43 PM

Cry Of A Restless Soul is my favourite song from A Flame To The Ground Beneath.

Grumma 03-06-2008 04:15 AM

I'm quite enjoying Symphony X's paradise lost

and for all you guys that were making music - what were you using for the drums? (if you had any)

Steerpike 03-06-2008 05:04 AM

My personal favorites are Think Not Forever and Sworn in the Metal Wind.

That has taken the #2 spot from that album, overtaking Pure.

CityOfEvil 03-06-2008 08:18 AM

Yeah Cry of a Restless Soul is great, but not better than Pure.

i am using my synth module where all my other sounds where coming out of, i haven't found a way to make them sound full yet but if you hear the drum set through my keyboard amp you'll about **** yourself at how nice it sounds :p
I'll start using that term now. Thanks :)
Haha, sweet, man. I just thought about it one day and when a power metal singer does it, it's their war cry to rally all of us power metal Templars to battle.

...yeah.

I have a link for the EZD Drumkit from Hell if that interests you or anyone. It's a really good plugin.

Shattered_Future 03-06-2008 04:32 PM

I just put a bunch of DKFH loops into Garageband, and drag and drop them where I please.

Think Not Forever has the most beastly opening war cry (schweet term) ever.

Grumma 03-06-2008 06:22 PM

haha ok.

my mate gave me Drumkit From Hell as well as EZ drummer but I haven't figured out how to use either :p

Ideally I'd have a program like tab trax and then something like DFH that I can drop the midi into so they sound at least a little realistic

ZapatoDiablo 03-06-2008 07:36 PM

You can use guitar pro to export your midi drums if you have that.

Grumma 03-06-2008 09:11 PM

yeah i do :)

I just found TabTrax a bit easier to use (least the demo anyways)

Poet 03-07-2008 04:07 PM

So has anyone heard of Northern Kings? It's consisted of Marco Hietala, Tony Kakko, Jarkko Ahola, and Juha-Pekka Leppaluoto. Their only album is all cover songs, but they are great.

Shadows Within 03-07-2008 06:24 PM

listening to it now, sounds pretty awesome so far. witsh they would have remained closer to the original tunes though

ArcLite 03-07-2008 06:39 PM

I use Fruity Loops with Drumkit From Hell plugin. I think for PC synth drums, it can't be beat. How's everyone doing? Haven't been around forever. Been straying from PM a bit too. Winds, Megadeth, Agalloch, Death Angel, and Emperor have been dominating my playlists as of late. Also been beating up Kamelot and Hibria a lot though too.

Riva 03-07-2008 06:54 PM

I'd rather be a Power Metal Teuton, just to piss bands like Turisas off.

ArcLite 03-07-2008 06:58 PM

So have there been any good PM releases in the last couple months I may have missed?

By the way, does anyone here listen to Miles Beyond? I heard them for the first time opening for Kamelot back in November and have been enjoying them a lot. Very Maiden-esque, but unique sounding as well.

Poet 03-07-2008 07:04 PM

Boomerang's Sounds of Sirens is pretty awesome. Their vocalist sounds like a mix between Bruce Dickinson and James Hetfield. Also, Avantasia's The Scarecrow is top notch as well.
