Oh dang, it's Phil.
What's happening, Phil? |
anybody home?
|
Yeah, boy. PayPal payed me.

Should I make my Fender Jazz a string-thru? I'm going to replace the bridge with a Hipshot A-style anyways.
Also, black hardware, or stick with the chrome? What color pickguard should I go with (I'm thinking white pearloid)? I think string-thru would look very bizarre on a Fender.
Leaning to not changing the hardware colour but maybe black could be okay. |
I just did some quick photoshopping (which I suck at, but it's a visual reference), and I think the black hardware looks great.

black hardware is the only good option on a bass.
|
on ANY bass.
|
Haha that is patently untrue.
The black will look okay on the Fender but I think chrome or to be truly specific, nickel, is what would suit that bass best. Anything else changes the flavour of it too much for me personally. Classic look is the way to go on a Fender. |
chris why have you not shown my math thread love

I think the black will just look better with the bass. Fenders are inherently classic looking, which is all fine and dandy, but I don't like the classic look. its math metal doesnt have much to do with math its just the genre schtick

What makes you think I don't enjoy math metal? That's my favorite part about metal in general - odd syncopations, different time signatures, and mathematical patterns. |
Can someone hook me up with a copy of Cubase? A recent-ish one...
|
You should make that Fender 5 string, pussy.
|
You should make that Fender 5 string, slightly confuzzled sea lion.
No way. I hate the way a B-string feels on a 34" scale. |
oh jeez.
I think string-thru would look very bizarre on a Fender.
actually the jazz bass 24's are string-thru. not that bad. |
oh jeez.

EADGC, bro. |

I'd want a wider neck for a 5-string, personally. I'll just stick with 4-strings. If I need higher notes, I've got four 6-strings and an 8-string that will suffice. |

Lolwut? B is fine on a 34". |
Not every 34" B feels the same.

Of particular note:
On September 21st, the two men [Cave and Ellis] release a collection of their instrumental film music, White Lunar, including their soundtracks to The Road and The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford — and they’re also readying an early-2010 album from their other band, Grinderman. No layabout, Cave even sat in with Ellis’ band, the Dirty Three, at last weekend’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival. “I played a bit of piano with them,” Cave says. “It was an honor. I’m working with Warren Ellis pretty much continuously on one thing or another.”
|

No, but a 35" B does feel better than a 34".
Lolwut? B is fine on a 34".
So sayeth you. I've disliked the B-string on every 34" I've ever played, especially the ones on Fenders. Then again, we have different playing styles. I'm an agressive fingerstyle player. |
Can someone hook me up with a copy of Cubase? A recent-ish one...
Lol Get the crack of Sonar 8. It blows the **** out of Cubase. |
I was going with Cubase because it's something I'm familiar with, but I just got the torrent of Sonar anyway, so we'll see how I go ;p

That is because you have never played my 34" B, baby. |

I would finger the sh*t out of your 34" B... Maybe slap it around a little bit... Slide my hands all up and down it... This thread is out of hand. Damn you, PA. |
so many things affect string tension though, not just scale length.
