Yeah, but I'm sure nobody would mind an FA on a well known band that happens to be a good band, such as The Who.

Nah man, it's all good :thumb:

MalcolmYoungRock 05-07-2005 11:10 PM

This is kind of for mod approval, or for anyone who thinks it's a good idea, but I'm thinking of maybe having a Greatest Rock and Metal songwriting competition.

We can use resources such as http://www.xsao.net or http://www.cdzinc.com

When people submit nominations, they should name a song that displays exceptional songwriting.

So maybe an example of a nomination would be:

John Lennon - Across the Universe (Beatles)

So people could go on forementioned sites and listen to the song.

Of course, I'll only go if Superpeer and Bartender both approve it.

So, R&M regulars.. whattya think?

If it's approved, I'll do it whenever Schyma finishes his guitar competition, maybe wait a few months.

i am the robots 05-07-2005 11:13 PM

I'd love that, but everyone would overlook amazing songwriting like Korn's Let's Get this Party Started or maybe Spineshank's Where We Fall, soley based on gerne.

Permanent Solution 05-07-2005 11:19 PM

I like it, but while I would listen to every song before voting, most people wouldn't so it seems a little impractical. Kinda like that guy who was bashing Beck and a post later asking what band he was in, only on a larger scale because so many bands would just have a ton of songs on it based on the band not the song. I would alo do rock and metal separate because I've always thought these contests would be better divided like that :)

MalcolmYoungRock 05-07-2005 11:21 PM

Yeah, I might have to do 2 contests because Pantera fans probably wouldn't appreciate Simon & Garfunkel lyrics.

Reading through the problems thread... I guess Iai's got a competition, best modern rock band coming up also.

So, I'll wait 'til he's done with it.

He's been waiting longer than me :)

Edit:

Yeah, I agree with Vince, people probably wouldn't take the time to listen to all the songs, or as Eleventeen said people might be biased on writing because of genre and such.

Hmm, today was good. I had a birthday party with some droogs over. Hello.

It's times like these I wish I had a faster internet connection. :(
Ray, I agree with you when you say your friend should meet your girlfriend. I would advise against a threesome though. I know, I'm sure that never crossed your mind. Even still, I would say that it is imperative that they at least meet face-to-face so each girl knows and sees how the other's relationship with you is different (and similar, in some cases, perhaps?) than the other. But I'm no Dr. Phil of advice like that. I genuinely hope it works out, and I have confidence that it will.
You're right, a threesome never did cross my mind. You sicko :p But seriously, in this case that just wrong...it would be like I would be "using" her for sex, and I don't want to do that to one of my good friends.

But yeah, you are right, I need to stress the relationships with them. I need to show my girlfriend that the relationship with my friend isn't the least bit romantic. It's like a brother-sister relationship.

Yeah I'm sorry :(

Cain 05-08-2005 12:07 AM

Everyone vote for me!!! :D

Although I do have stiff competition from lateski. His song is ****in' great. And there was another one I listened to earlier today with an amazing Morningrise-style acoustic bit in the middle, it made me **** myself. I'm lovin' a lot of those entries.

Ramsey, your entry is one of your finest compositional moments. 'Tis also a great use of the POD's versatility, you sure put it to good use on it.

Only question: what are "metal packs?" Some new thing for the POD that I haven't heard about, or something that comes with the XT that I don't have as it's a Version 2.0?

Illmatic 05-08-2005 12:15 AM

If I knew a damn thing about metal I would rate.

MalcolmYoungRock 05-08-2005 12:16 AM
Yeah I'm sorry :(
Or maybe I can stream a few of them... or are the rules I have to listen to them all?
If I knew a **** thing about metal I would rate.
123'd

Hey, actually they're streaming really nicely.

I may have to submit my 2 cents.

So far, I've just heard your entry Ramsey.

CemetaryGates9 05-08-2005 12:18 AM

Stop spamming. No one wants to talk about something like that. There was a conversation already going on.

Quality varies widely between the entries, too, so wherever possible pay attention closely to the compositional aspect. :)

Streaming would be a good idea.

Yeah, as I said before, they're starting to stream really nicely, haven't gotten anything choppy.

I'll submit a vote tomorrow.

Edit: 'Night MX.

Yep. I'd say yours, mine, berners and mishas take the cake in terms of quality.

i used the metal packs on them, which is:

Well I used the "model" packs, which include the metal packs

Its basically a new set of effects, amps and a bunch of stuff that upgrades your pod (you download them) and just use them in guitarport like you would.

The thing is, these metal packs are TOTALLY ****ing worth it. If you listen to thisfilters song (misha) he is using them. I also use them on my song. They are COMPELTLY worth it if those songs are any indication.

I'm not sure if you can upgrade a POD 2.0 though, you'll need to check their site

Sounds cool. The amp mods for the Rectified 2 are kind of weak. Although the tone I got sounds pretty good to me. :)

Ramsey 05-08-2005 12:38 AM

I forgot to add, the Model packs, all three of them are for a 100$

its worth it when you consider that 1 of them is for 50$
