Steerpike 03-02-2008 06:02 PM

There's a couple samples on their MySpace right now. I'll report back shortly.

EDIT: I hate judging off of samples, but this could either really rule or really suck. The synths are much higher in the mix than ever before, and the vocals are much more heavily layered. It's slightly reminiscent of Rhapsody of Fire.

Riva 03-02-2008 06:10 PM

I hate it when the synths become overpowering, but I'll probably reserve the final judgement till April. I like Human Fortress and I enjoy Frank's vocal style, so I'll see how it goes.

Deth 03-02-2008 09:38 PM

It's taken long enough, but I've finally realized what's so awesome about Slough Feg.

Shadows Within 03-02-2008 10:36 PM

never heard of human fortress what where there previous releases like?

EDIT: oh and i added more to my Nightwish project, i added the epic part after with guitar that sounds a little too bass and the rest isin't high enough in the mix and the drums are a little rough, but it came out decent enough for right now, i plan on making this on going just adding pieces.

EDIT 2: lol it's top 10 in cover songs on soundclick :) i feel special

Poet 03-03-2008 07:16 AM

Very good. Sounds better in parts than the demo did, lol.

It took Hardworlder to convert me.

Evoke 03-04-2008 03:37 AM

Anyone heard of Kahn's (Kamelot) previous band called Conception.
You can check them out some of their songs on youtube.
Pretty solid imo.

Solid album, though Slough Feg seem te get progessivly less metal and more hard rock. Still love them though, but I would have liked a few more Twilight of the Idols (favorite album btw. check out the song Bipolar Disorder) and Down among the deadmen style albums, with more folk and metal

Shadows Within 03-04-2008 10:10 PM

Bard Song is really great.

They finished with that song back when I saw them in 06 :)

Everyone sang along and chanted to every part of every song. It was awsome.

BludgeonySteve 03-05-2008 11:46 AM

I can understand not liking Blind Guardian, but to not "get" Blind Guardian, you would have to be a complete moron.

pate 03-05-2008 11:49 AM

Umm

Their lyrics are cool

Music is idk kind of gei (for me)

BludgeonySteve 03-05-2008 12:09 PM

Ok ok. When I say that I don't "get" a band, I'm saying that I don't understand why other people like them. Semantics and whatnot.

Word

I understand full well why people like Blind Guardian, considering that I listen to such homofaggotry as Rhapsody of Fire and Summoning (two of my favorite bands).

I just find teh melodies bland tbh

Shattered_Future 03-05-2008 01:59 PM

The melodies are bland?

EPIC FAIL!

1338 h4x0r 03-05-2008 02:13 PM

Well, they tend not to have the same sweeping range and memorable qualities as, for instance, the melodies in Rhapsody, Lost Horzion or Stormwarrior songs

At least the ones I've heard

I'm not hating on Blind Guardian; I've listened to their music many times and it just didn't move me

Those 3 bands have had a major influence from Blind Guardian though. I still think Lost Horizon is the best power metal band, but Blind Guardian rules.

mfb 03-05-2008 03:14 PM

I'm sure you get asked this question a million times, but can you guys recommend me some technical power metal?

Just not guys like Manowar... in my opinion they're too cheesy. I'm not into cheesy music, tbh.

ZapatoDiablo 03-05-2008 03:16 PM

Angra gets pretty technical. I'm not sure how you are going to avoid cheesiness with power metal though.

Tyler 03-05-2008 03:18 PM

Angra is really bland though.

And **** you Manowar > everything else in this thread.

mfb 03-05-2008 03:20 PM

Sorry Cocaine, JMO.

And power metal doesn't HAVE to be cheesy, though I classify it as anything with opera like vocals. Listen to some Control Denied... not cheesy at all but still with those vox.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Riva 03-05-2008 03:22 PM

Hehe, asking in the power metal thread for non-cheesy bands seems like an exercise in futility.

Your classification is probably wrong then. But in any case, you can try Lost Horizon. They're quite talented at their respective instruments.

Poet 03-05-2008 03:23 PM

Kamelot is cheesy in name, but I don't find them as over-cheestastic like Rhapsody or Hammerfall,

Tyler 03-05-2008 03:28 PM

I do, Roy Khan is one of the most over-dramatic vocalists in the genre.

Riva 03-05-2008 03:29 PM

That's true, but I still find most power metal bands to be cheesy simply due to the style of music.

Tyler 03-05-2008 03:31 PM

The subject matter lends itself to cheese, I don't think it's a bad thing. Then, with Manowar, I think they've earned the right to essentially become a parody of themselves.

ZapatoDiablo 03-05-2008 03:32 PM
Angra is really bland though.
For some reason Angra has always seemed very different to me from most other power metal bands. They can get pretty progressive when they step away from the normal power metal mold.

Tyler 03-05-2008 03:34 PM

I just think Angra sound like a soulless studio band. It's like a bunch of session musicians given the chance to write together.

BludgeonySteve 03-05-2008 03:35 PM
Angra is really bland though.

I've only heard Temple of Shadows, but on that album they seem to sacrifice melody for complexity. There aren't really too many Emerald Sword quality memorable vocal hooks. Just insane shred.
