Indeed, I love Animals. My favorite Pink Floyd album (but I only have that, Division Bell, DSOTM, and Wish You Were Here...along with Echoes)

That made me feel good just reading it. I don't know why, but I really like your descriptives. :thumb:

I never really "got" Animals. I'm not cool enough, I guess. :upset:

NP: Prelude for Lute by Bach, performed by Andres Segovia.
This is my favorite song off Animals, barely beating Dogs. I think what I like about it is Gilmour's awesome guitar riffs, Wright's great effects and keyboard, and Roger's great bassline and vocals. But easily the best part of it is the epic outro riff by Gilmour.
I gotta agree with you about the outro riff, simply incredible.....but I like dogs more.

standard 09-01-2005 06:39 PM

Sheep does have a cool outro riff.

He's not a September 05, he's Marmalade_Skies, but he was banned.

N00b question:

who is the singer?
N00b question:

:upset:
Roger Waters (bassist) and David Gilmour (guitar) both do the singing

But in the early days (Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, etc.), Syd Barrett was the singer, but got kicked out due to excessive LSD use.

magicbus 09-01-2005 06:54 PM

This site might help. It has a lot of information about Floyd albums, including who sings on which song.

NP:Pink Floyd - Sheep :thumb:
Be carefull, your going to get hooked. ;)

Have you ever heard the song Comfortably Numb? (It's from the Wall, but Pulse has an even better live version of it)

If not, download it immediataly.... Best Guitar Solo(s) ever :thumb:

clairvoyant 09-01-2005 06:58 PM

Yes, Comfortably Numb solo rocks. Most all of David Gilmours outro solos are amazing anyways, like Sorrow, Pigs (Three Different Ones)...etc

WheepingGuitar39 09-01-2005 07:01 PM

A song I haven't heard much of on here is Fat Old Sun (Off the album Atom Heart Mother, early 70's I believe). The lyrics are beautiful, and what a solo! :)

Shazzam 09-01-2005 07:09 PM

^^

Yes, I got that a while ago off of Kazaa, it's amazing.

The only thing that sucks is the camera zooms in on Gilmour's RIGHT hand way too much.

OK, I'm trying to download it right now.

bibbl 09-01-2005 07:27 PM

My friend burned me Dark Side of the Moon a while back and I'd listened to it a little, but hadn't really got around to actually listening to the CD until last night.

It was some good stuff, especially Time.

Now I see why it's such a popular album.

Yeah it's really accessible.

Any Colour You Like is about the trippiest song ever. If you don't believe me, go smoke a bowl of chronic and blast that song in a dark room and see what happens. (It kicks *** when your not high too :) )

:smoke:

When the tigers broke free is a cool song

I love that song. I'm much more familiar with the version on the Gilmour acoustic DVD, however.

Oh yeah, that DVD rocks.

It's amazing when he does Shine On with just him on acoustic guitar, yet it sounded so full.

Definitely. I love that DVD. I'm actually listening to it now, but I minimized the visual so I could do homework/MXing.

NP: High Hopes.

I'd love some Pink Floyd right about now. :thumb:

robo2448 09-01-2005 08:29 PM

What's a better Floyd DVD, Gilmour Acoustic 2002, or Live At Pompeii?

I want to get one of them for my birthday, which one should I ask for? I'll probably end up getting both though.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-01-2005 08:31 PM

Live in Pompeii was AMAZING!!! Can't say it's better though because I haven't seen it yet but Pompeii is extremly hard to beat.

Pompeii is incredible, but it depends on what you're into. I've always been a fan of mellower music, and thus the acoustic DVD appeals to me more. But, Pompeii has some great tracks, and some insight into what studio time was like for the band, so... it's really a toss up. Depends on what era you're more into: Pre-DSOTM, or later stuff and stuff Gilmour wrote after 94?

magicbus 09-01-2005 08:38 PM

Live At Pompeii is better IMO. Much more epic, and while I love Gilmour, I think it was better to see them all playing together.

I do own both though, I'd check out both of them.

robo2448 09-01-2005 08:47 PM

I guess I'll get Live At Pompei first, but get both eventually.

DeusExMachina 09-01-2005 08:52 PM

I'd probably say get Pompeii first, although I prefer the acoustic DVD to LAP.

Riva 09-02-2005 07:33 AM

If you do get Pompeii, make sure it is the Director's Cut.

Shazzam 09-02-2005 07:41 AM
If you do get Pompeii, make sure it is the Director's Cut.
I have it, and I can't stand it. It takes away from the original feel of the whole thing, and there are all those annyoing planet animations.

The good thing though, is that the entire 'original' footage is in the bonus features.
