Did you get my message on the last page? About how You Lied wasn't in the ZIP. I got it from Madey though, who is quite badarse. :thumb:
Nope, but I thought you said to leave it out. As long as you got it though.

BlindWriting 04-25-2005 09:55 PM

Is it true that in Intolerance you can hear bits of the Prison Sex riff softly in the background? Are there any other hidden messages in Tool songs? I remember hearing something about a secret backwards message in APC's The Stranger, too.

BlindWriting 04-25-2005 09:56 PM

But not to completely change the topic.

Kage 04-25-2005 10:00 PM
I got Undertow last so I didn't really have that problem. I just think that it almost never gets the appreciation it deserves. Prison Sex's outro gives me chills, anyone else? And 4 degrees is definately one of their best songs to date.
I agree on Prison Sex and 4 Degrees, and I also think Swamp Song and Flood are some of the best on that album, although I don't think that's a very popular opinion around here.

As for the secret messages, I don't know anything about those.
Nope, but I thought you said to leave it out. As long as you got it though.
I just wanted Third Eye, Push it, and No Quarter out of there. Anyways, moving on.

Does anyone know wtf is really going on during Mantra? I've heard the whole gato theory, and a few others, but what is it for sure?

Huber 04-25-2005 10:15 PM
Same here...what's in your opinion a "good" used price? Because unless it's lower than $3.00 I'm a little disapointed, especially after having found some for like 99 cents.
I normally buy used CDs in the 3-5 dollar range, and after shipping if it's over 9 it's a no-go.

ThePatient 04-25-2005 10:15 PM

Swamp Song would be my 3rd favorite off of Undertow. But I think Prison Sex and 4degrees are head and shoulders above the rest.

Mantra sounds like whale songs to me.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-25-2005 10:16 PM

Oh crap! Where do you get em for 3 bucks?

Eff, that's cheap. You can get like 5 used for 1 new cd.

In the Tool FAQ it says it's Maynard squeezing a cat slowed down, if that's what you mean by Gato theory. I assume that's true. On the Toolshed boards people say they've recorded it on Audacity, and played it back at some speed faster and it does sound like a cat screaming. I've never tried it though, so I can't say for sure.

Amazon.com my friend.

Kage 04-25-2005 10:19 PM

Let's not spread the word too much about Amazon, people, or everyone'll take all the good deals.

@Sliptallica  Agreed. Over 9 bucks just doesn't fly.

The JoZ 04-25-2005 10:20 PM

IMO, Intolerance is the best song on Undertow...

I really love the first five tracks, but after that, not so much.

I really don't like Swamp Song and 4 Degrees much, but Undertow itself is cool.

It's still a great listen.

Kage 04-25-2005 10:23 PM

The only problem is that I think on Undertow there are a few momentary lapses of reason (the end of Sober, anyone?). That doesn't happen on Aenima or Lateralus in my opinion.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-25-2005 10:23 PM

Gato theory=Maynard screaming his Siamese cat

Anyone else diggin' my Spanglish?

Me freakin' gusta

Huber 04-25-2005 10:54 PM

I've seen like 5 different versions of the first guitar solo in Lateralus. Can someone point me to the correct one?

extreme_191 04-25-2005 11:06 PM

I bought Undertow first, b/c the guy at the store said it was his favourite. The cover was so intregueing(sp?) Intolerance is one of the best openers IMO

The JoZ 04-25-2005 11:23 PM

Kage: What do you mean by lapses of reason?

Sliptallica: Have you looked at Tooltabs.net?

Otherside 04-26-2005 06:00 AM

I realized listening to Pushit in bed last night that before "Choke this infant here before me" that there is a faint baby screaming in the background. It was pretty cool.

Werny 04-26-2005 06:24 AM
Umm.. Never heard that about APC. Or Tool for that matter. Only thing I know of during Intolerance is in the very beginning.. the muffled sounds or whatever. Yeah, that's supposed to be the sound of someone drowning or something. Turn it up real loud and it'll sound like someone underwater.
I've always thought of it as bong water.

I loooooove Undertow. Crawl Away (!INTRO!), Intolerance, Flood, 4 Degrees, Swamp Song... you can't go wrong!

unfall 04-26-2005 07:12 AM

I LOVE ALEX GREY

btw it was maynards bday on the 17th...

unfall 04-26-2005 07:13 AM

undertow is probably the best album, i like opiate....but..

Lapses of reason: Sort of a humorous way of saying that they messed up, in a way. There were some parts on that album that just didn't sound good, such as the end of Sober when he goes into that "I want what I want" and the guitar riff is suddenly out of the mood from the rest of the song. The lyrics are sort of half-assed as opposed to the near perfection in the rest of that song.

Also, I think it's Undertow. At the beginning...that guitar riff is just a no-go for me, although I love the rest of that song.

I second the Tooltabs recommendation. That site is really great.

that slide at the beginning of undertow is easy, and correct i might add. We play the cover, and it sounds bad arse and dead on. Maybe you're missing the timing on the slide buddy

I don't think they messed up there though, I think that part is awesome. Sure, the lyrics aren't exactly diamonds or anything, but the guitar part is wicked.

ATTN All who wanted bass backing tracks!!!

I'm going to be doing some more today, like now.

If I remember correctly, I still have left to do...

Part of Me
Jerk Off
Eulogy
The Grudge
The Patient
Schism

If I have missed any, or you have another request that I haven't already done (Sober, Stinkfist) then let me know.

Please note, however...I am not doing Schism today because my effects pedal is not here, and to properly do the song I need distortion + delay + whammy.

clearvision 04-26-2005 10:39 AM

Aenima please? /will <3 you forever.

But definateley the patient, those two and sober were my requests, i dno about other people, but i can remember schisma nd the grudge being asked for...
