I'm totally lost in this thread.

TojesDolan 12-13-2005 04:11 PM

I think there's Varg going on, apparently a murderer, a little "The grand conjuration" video rant by myself, some Nazi talk relating to Varg, And basically a little Opeth. But just minimal.

Darkness 12-13-2005 05:31 PM
Even after reading Varg's version of the story I really don't think Euronymous was planning to kill him.
Really dude? Did you read about how he was running after weapons in his apparentment to use on Varg, after he made the first attack?

Jude 12-13-2005 05:41 PM
Really dude? Did you read about how he was running after weapons in his apparentment to use on Varg, after he made the first attack?
Uhh...so Varg goes to Euronymous' apartment, attacks him, Euronymous tries to get a weapon (according to Varg) to defend himself, and Varg stabs him over 20 times?

That's not self-defense. If Euro killed Varg it would have been.
And yes, apparently Varg only stabbed Euronymous a couple times in the body and once in the head, the rest of the wounds are apparently from Euronymous falling on glass shards
Not according to Varg's account of the story.
yeah, when i read what varg said - admittedly chasing after a fleeing euronymous then stabbing him in the back may have been wrong, but the reaosn for wanting him dead, becuase otherwise euronymous wouldve had him killed seemed perfectly fair
Uh....not fair by most people's definition.

Darkness 12-13-2005 06:00 PM

Wrong dude, Varg went there in the middle of the night (which he claimed was normal for them) with some kind of contract they had to sign, and at this time Euronymous and his friends had planned to kidnap Varg, tie him up, put him in the trunk of his car, drive him out to the country side, and torture him and video tape the whole thing. So Varg found out about this, went to his house for a different reason, and Euronymous seemed really nervous, and Varg seemingly startled him by saying "what the fuck is going on?" and Euronymous kicked him in the chest, and made a break for his kitchen where he kept a knife, then yadda yadda yadda, Varg stabs him in the hallway of the apprentment building, after Euronymous had knocked a lamp down and it shattered, Varg had stabbed him in the shoulder a few times already in an attempt to stop him, then Euronymous tried to kick him again, then Varg put the knife through his head, and he fell on the busted up lamp. Go read the story for yourself on his web site.

Of course the fact that Euro was supposedly going to kill Varg, we only have Varg's word for it.

Darkness 12-13-2005 08:46 PM

Thats true, but you're forgetting Euronymous made the first attack against Varg, when Varg simply asked what the hell was going on with all this stuff he was hearing about the whole torture thing. And like Varg would make a story up quite like that. If you read any of his stuff that doesn't have to do with Euronmyous, you'll see he's not the kinda guy who would just make that story up.

Actually, I think he would make up stories, considering how many times he's changed his story about this incident.

But whatever. I just got my rap-listening friend to download The Moor and he liked it pretty much.

Unless you read that straight from burzum.org, he's never changed his story man, he said it himself the media blew the whole thing way out of perportion, so it's likely you've seen variations on the interent.

Anyway, I was thinking today of a video in my head that would be so badass to Still Life, the entire album as a video. There's so many places Opeth could go with it, as could they with all their albums, but I think Still Life would be more appropriate. If Opeth do decide to make a video to one of their albums, it would be the first a band did that in a long time, not to mention make bank on it as well. They have the time, money and potential now, they just need to do it! What do you think?

Didn't I say that like, 2 pages back?
I agree completely.
I will argue you this in your favour. The song Blackwater Park is heavier then any song on Deliverance. But as a whole, probably not.

I don't think that's what he meant at all.

Anyway, The Twilight is My Robe has got to be one of the greatest songs that Opeth has written.

Misery 12-15-2005 05:18 AM

So I downloaded a video of Opeth's concert at Wacken Open Air 2003, and at around 13:50 minutes into the video they played a song I didn't recognize, even after listening to every single Opeth song I have. Was wondering if anyone knows what that song is?

suspect 12-15-2005 09:34 AM

Where did you download it from?

Misery 12-15-2005 10:10 AM
Where did you download it from?
eMule. The file is called... uh... *looks*... [Opeth] Live at Wacken 2003.asf

Well, it's possible it was a cover or one of their bonus tracks or something, but more likely you just don't have all their albums and so didn't recognize the song.

denboy 12-15-2005 11:22 AM

you could post some of the lyrics?

Jude 12-15-2005 11:39 AM

So this morning I woke up, looked out the window, found it was snowing really hard and everything was covered in white, and was happy. Then I remembered I had Morningrise in my CD player so I turned on Black Rose Immortal and proceeded to be even happier.

Which Opeth album do you think is most suited to snowy weather? To walking in a forest at night? To walking in a forest at night in snowy weather?

Stoo 12-15-2005 11:49 AM

Forest at night - Blackwater Park.
Snowy weather - Morningrise.
Really heavy rain at night - Ghost Reveries.

I can't explain why. The albums just make me think like that.

Morningrise 12-15-2005 03:25 PM

As for me...

Orchid is foresty. Remember when Opeth used to be called forest metal back in the days? xD
Morningrise sounds like the rising sun.
MAYH is a hot, rainy summer night.
Still Life, I can't explain. Something along the lines of running through a dark, misty moor xD
Blackwater Park definitely sounds like an autumn album.

I'll just stop there. Opeth are a truly unique band. I don't know any other bands that can conjure up such great imagery in their music and lyrics.

Moses 12-15-2005 03:37 PM
Blackwater Park definitely sounds like an autumn album.
I agree, especially with songs like Harvest and The Leper Affinity. They just have this Autumn-y feel. Blackwater Park (the song) actually reminds me of a rainy day on a canoe in the middle of a misty lake. I don't know why but that's just where it puts me.

I think the Inferno Festival setlist was similar, so it was probably Advent. I might be wrong though. If you listen to the song, did it have a really cool bass sliding part at 3-4 mins into it?

Fuh?

No, I'm saying I underestimated it. I had tracks from it at first, and thought they were meh. It's growing on me more now.

I may analyze Bleak for a health project. Be rather funny to see what happens when I blast that for my 65% rich Jewish school.

Does anybody know what that song is about, by any chance? I'm horrible at lyrical interpretation...:(

Kage 12-15-2005 08:24 PM

You get to analyze lyrics for a health project?

Yeah, you're right... it was Advent! Probably like, the only Opeth song I didn't know. Such a cool song, too, can't believe I've missed it. Thanks!

Jude 12-15-2005 10:24 PM

Blackwater Park, definitely best to listen to this in autumn/winter. Same with Orchid and Morningrise.

The song BWP always makes me think of this kind of swampy dark place full of really big ominous trees, a little like the album cover.

Yeah, I think the album cover really suits the title song. It sounds like the most "evil" song Opeth has put out. At least to me :p

Hehe...it reallys has some asskickin' riffs...that's actually the first Opeth song I heard and I was like "badass" from the opening to the end...BWP is a pretty dark album, music-wise, if ya ask me...

RouteOne 12-16-2005 11:02 AM

If you had the choice, who would you guys have record a split album with Opeth?

I think Agalloch would be insane with Opeth.

This song is obviously about him killing someone. He describes the approach:

"Moving, I am moving closer to your side
Luring, you are luring me into the night
Crying, who is crying for you here
Dying, I am dying fast inside your tears

Plunging towards bereavement faster yet
Clearing thoughts, my mind is set"

Then, he sets up for the kill:

"Devious movements in your eyes
Moved me from relief
Breath comes out white clouds with your lies
And filters through me
You're close to the final word
You're staring right past me in dismay
A liquid seeps from your chest
And drains me away
Mist ripples round your thin white neck
And draws me a line
Cold fingers mark this dying wreck
This moment is mine

Help me, cure you
Atone for all you've done
Help me, leave you
As all the days are gone "

Then he does it:

"Night fall again
Taking what's left of me
Slight twist, shivering corpse
Ornated with water, fills the cracks
Clasped in my lims by tradition
This is all you need"

And he watches as their tears fill their wounds as they die, "clasped in my lims by tradition".

I hope this helps.:)

Morningrise 12-16-2005 11:28 AM

Txus. I love thy Opeth lyric interpretation you've posted for "The fun thread" and Bleak. Consider writing up an entire album if it's not too much of a hassle for you. I'm interested in reading them. xD
