Gattsu347 04-12-2010 12:34 AM

hi (*The Noonward Race*)

im very carefully reading though the chapter on dynamic processors and compressors in a book called Mixing Audio by Roey Izhaki. i think im going to have to read through it a few times.

(*The Noonward Race*) 04-12-2010 12:38 AM

yeah i quit university and im working its nice to be able to get less hobbyish about my hobby , you know, reading carefully. but its so satisfying when you get results.

post a beat or something man

Gattsu347 04-12-2010 01:06 AM

quit for good?? Im taking a lot of units and working so i dont have ny time anymore :/. good to hear you're seeing results in your work though, nothing better than positive improvements.

mehh all my stuff sucks. i've been writing some decent words though.

Here is a song from my trip hop duo, it's the first and only thing we have right now.

what does compression do

i never understood

(*The Noonward Race*) 04-12-2010 01:12 AM

naw not for good, but who knows.

good atmosphere, it's real tune, cool samples. i like the groove.

so is the an e-collab or? who did what?
what does compression do

i never understood
lol

but if you're serious it kinda squishes the sound so every or some part of it's louder but it also makes the volume over time more consistent (which can be boring) . basically

Gattsu347 04-12-2010 01:14 AM

in an extremely simple explaination:

it makes loud sounds more quiet. this reduces the volume range on an instrument or track.

they are a nessesity to modern music, but using them effectively is pretty difficult. i truely don't understand them well enough to inform anyone else. i usually play with a compressor till i get a good enough sound, but a good engineer can listen to a track and know the needed ratio, attack, threshold, and release pretty quickly.

(*The Noonward Race*) 04-12-2010 01:16 AM

playing with the release help me use it way better

think about the attenuation sorta like a adsr envelope

Thanks man :]

its my friend from irl. we've known each other for like 6 years and we're in a band called The Fuzz in high school.

I play the bass and i programmed the drums. he plays the guitar (killer on this track) and programed the strings/textures. He also did a fair chunk of the mixing.
