It's not a case of not liking dead space, it was a pretty good game but the plotline is more or less a rip off of 2001
Uh.... What?

AG 12-09-2010 02:08 PM

Tbf it's nothing at all like 2001.

I never got past the intro, the cam angle killed it outright for me.

GTFO on the WH/D&D hate, geeks is geeks, everything is cool.

Also, I don't know what to think about Just Cause. It's a pretty awesome sandbox/base jumping/skydiving game, but the story/shooting/driving bit was poor. I was gonna get JC2 but it only works on vista.

fingers mccoy 12-09-2010 02:11 PM

the only thing i can think of is the monolith

The_Mop 12-09-2010 02:20 PM

Isnt the idea that its the monolith causing all the mutation, similar to 2001 where it's suggested it causes human evolution?

I dunno, havnt really played it in a while but I can remember at the time it was very heavily relying on 2001-like elements

Edit: and also the scientific expedition to go and retrieve/study the thing

Papa Shank 12-09-2010 02:32 PM

I played a little bit of GT5, and enjoyed it despite it being about as engaging as a chick that doesn't want to fuck but gets into your bed all the same.

Yes, I'm having one of those weeks.

JC2 is leagues ahead of the first; it's centred around the action and sheer scale, as well as the absurd action - it's not meant to have ultra awesome techy combat systems and stuff.

But the fact you're dealing with the same objects in the same situations discovered under the same terms seems more than a coincidence.

Truth is, it's EA - I'm not expecting brilliance plotline wise from them. But the gameplay leaves a hell of a lot to be desired IMO, and I didn't even flinch throughout the whole thing. If you see the zero punctuation review of it, I pretty much share that view.

JC2 is fucking hilarious at times. For example, you wait for a jumbo to take off, then hook shot a fighter jet on the runway, ride the cockpit as it takes off, then hijack it. Having successfully hijacked a fighter jet midair, you then spend a surprising amount of time chasing down the jumbo jet, position yourself over it, leap out, hook-shot the jumbo and hijack that. Then, you head to the nearest oil rig, and direct the jumbo jet on a collision course, only to jump out at the last moment, parachuting to safety.

You then realise that all the oil rigs are fucking miles away from anywhere, and you just blew up the quickest way to get anywhere.

Kuffuffled 12-09-2010 07:09 PM

I was playing it for a bit but got bored pretty quickly. Had no interest in doing the missions

ME2 I couldn't get into, the first 3 minutes was awesome but after that nothing happened

Dead space is pretty good although a little repetitive

Amnesia was pretty fun and creepy, but after awhile you realize the only thing that can hurt you is those white creepy bros so after one fucks off I just ran around trying to continue on

It's all about finding entertaining ways to kill people. For example, connecting a guy to a gas canister, which you ignite, thus towing him whichever way the canister goes. Or attaching someone to a moving car. Or hook-shot two guys together. Or connect a guy to a ceiling or overhand, and then shoot him. Or connect a guy to an enemy helicopter, then blow up the helicopter.

Hahah yeah, it's so over the top. I spent a lot of time just doing weird and random shit with the grapple, seeing what I could do with gas canisters, hooking togetehr planes etc.

The game itself is remarkably short (only 7 agency missions i think); I think you can finish the story on like 18% total completion. I have no enthusiasm to do any more on it now though. My brotehr got to just over 50% which I thought was nuts.

2muchket! 12-10-2010 05:55 AM

Currently playing through the first gears of war (late adopter of an 360 I know) and I'm enjoying it to an extent but the gameplay gets samey really quickly, and the latest part I'm on the cover is fucking appaling, that and I detest the torque bow and how ineffective the shotgun is.

Sad But True 12-10-2010 06:29 AM

Gears of War becomes a much, much better game in multiplayer.

Sup lod?

Picked up a nice bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape for a romantic night in tonight, I'm almost looking forward to the wine more than the inevitable sex.

Almost.

Squirrel 12-10-2010 06:38 AM

I love red wine; I know next to nothing about it but I do love it all the same. My family are quite big on wine so I think i've probably tried quite a lot of wines over the years.

Currently writing a birthday card for my ex, then gonna have lunch then go for a run. Had an amazing time at training yesterday, really perked me up after a crap day.

Sad But True 12-10-2010 06:53 AM

I'm a red man myself. Don't get me wrong, I like white; Black Tower Rivaner or Pinot Grigio usually go down a treat, but a red just has so much more taste and variance to it. Dehydrates the fuck out of you, though.

I need to do some exercise, I haven't been playing football for over a month due to weather/people falling out with each other, I used to play twice a week.

Just filled out an application for Bet365, working 16 hours, more than likely over the weekends (according to my mate who works there), and they pay double time at weekends, so yay for 32 hours pay. I do love the 'tick one option' questions though, the ones that try to find out what sort of person you are. Anyone with half a brain can piece together what they're looking for and answer accordingly.

fingers mccoy 12-10-2010 07:08 AM

cranking out the gingerbread house today; gonna make a welcome mat and roof tiles out of millionaire's shortbread

Squirrel 12-10-2010 07:10 AM

I can drink white wine but i'm really not a big fan of it, though the thing with wine is there's so many of them that you can hate 400, tolerate 400, and love 400. Maybe I should see what i'd like in a white and try to speak to someone about it for some pointers.

I'm gonna place a cheeky £5 bet on a fight this weekend which should net me like 18 quid if it comes through.

2muchket! 12-10-2010 07:35 AM

From my limited experience of wine drinking I'm definitely a red man myself.

Just laxing in uni at the moment doing some prep for my final seminar of the semester, such a doddle too.

Sad But True 12-10-2010 08:49 AM

I learned most of my wine knowledge from my bassist and drummer out of my indie band; one worked in the beers/wines/spirits at Asda and one worked in a Boozebuster. Then on a (drunken) trip to Glasgow to watch Gilmour we had 'pound shop challenge', to buy the most interesting thing for a pound and I came out with a book of booze. You'd be surprised how far a good knowledge of wines goes with the ladies.

me and kufflufffs play diabolo 2 and left for dead 2 it's pretty awesome

Squirrel 12-10-2010 10:24 AM

I didn't like L4D 2, well, actually, I did but it was just like, a simple rehash of the simplest and most one dimensional game ever so it got quite boring quickly.

The Transporter 12-10-2010 10:28 AM

well it was 5 dollares on steam one day so i bought it and mailed it to canada

waiting for borerlands game of the year edition to go on sale so we can play that too

Squirrel 12-10-2010 10:35 AM

It's a decent enough game cause of the price, just a bit annoying cause so much could be done with it.

The Transporter 12-10-2010 10:45 AM

which game lf4d2 or borederlands

Oh yes, I can't for Koscheck to get beat again, even if it takes GSP laying on him for 5 rounds.

Squirrel 12-10-2010 12:39 PM

I prefer Koscheck to GSP, though I can accept GSP will likely win.

could be a bit of a snoozer with a lot of lay and pray tho.

The Transporter 12-10-2010 01:31 PM

yeah there needs to be more weapons in lfd2

also there should be a way to get jockeys and other enemies off of your even without the help of someone

Modern Iconoclast 12-10-2010 05:09 PM

Then the special infected would be even more gimped compared to the survivors than their already are. Winning as the infected involves attacking as a team and incapacitating as many survivors as you can at once. If they could save themselves without help the survivors would always win.

I'd like to upgrade my PC processor (+motherboard), RAM and operating system. I'm a bit of a novice though :-\

Currently got:
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 4450e processor.
- 2 x 1024MB DDR2-SDRAM (PC2-6400/800MHz)
- Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

Upgrading to (I think!):
- Multi-core AMD processor, minimum 3GHz
- 4GB DDR3 RAM
- Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)

Found a couple of bundles:
http://www.dabs.com/products/asus-amd-ultimate-bundle--includes-m4a77t-motherboard--phenom-ii-x4-955---4gb-ddr3--2x2gb--memory--70ZM.html?refs=432790000
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-011-OP&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1802

But not sure if I could find something cheaper.

Fuck my life.

I don't know those specific motherboards or processors well myself, i'm more of an intel man meself but I do use Asus and Gigabyte mobos a lot. Gigabytes generally are cheaper so that overclocker's pack is a bit confusing as to what you're paying for.... maybe it has more features than the Asus - best thing to do is just compare feature lists.

Generally my advice here is to not get too caught up with clock speed because it doesn't make a huge difference sometimes (i've been running a 2GHz Core2Duo since 2007 and it's only just about starting to show it's age - its futureproofed for a few years yet), but then again I remember the interface (hypertransport, isn't it?) is different.... i'm kinda the wrong guy to talk to about AMDs :P

The best thing you can do is just find manuals of any motherboards you're interested in and just find the appropriate specs of the CPU,RAM e.t.c and just match the numbers. A lot of mobo manuals even tell you how to build the bloody thing :)

Oh and in terms of cost - ALWAYS check Microdirect. In the years I've been building machines, they've almost never been beaten on price.
