everyone's getting excited abt this little tool bit in lie.
it's really not that big a deal, it's like..a fewminutes at best. i couldn't even tell cuz i don't listen to that much tool. ill send once i get it through to eug008
What Tool bit in Lie? Is it on this bootleg or something? |
Sounds cool, shame it's only LaBrie though
I was actually caring more about the reference to Score. It has been briefly brought up in here (I went to a farm for the weekend, no internet, I'm still catching up :p), but for the few of us loyal fans, like myself, who didn't know, thought it could be cool :) Edit: Yeah Mr Happy Dance. There's a live version of Lie with a Tool jam in the middle, pretty cool, but I have to say, it's probably John Petrucci's worst moment as far as tone goes, I'm not a fan of it, but LaBrie kills it. |
Ok, so I have watched Live at the Budokan countless times. I also own Live in Tokyo/5 Years in a LiveTime. So, I'm loving Dream Theater, however I have no CDs, and I was wondering which albums would be better to start off with.
|
Images and Words, or Awake.
|
Images and Words, or Awake.
I 2nd Images and Words. I'd also go for Scenes From A Memory as well. Awake is a tough album to get into.:thumb: |
awake IS a tough album to get into, but once you do...
you're hooked. it did not come out of my CD player for weeks. at this point, i recommend 6 degrees. i just realized how much DT's soudn depends on their keyboardist, and JR brings a lot to the band besides what you can hear. his compositional skills, his subtle orchestration and his ideas... the overall sound quality of everything i think is most advanced in teh 6 degrees era. |
it did not come out of my CD player for weeks.
It's still not out of my CD player, and it's been in there for almost a year  ****en awesome CD, very close to my favourite album of all time.. Edit: Still, I think the earlier you get it and start listenning the faster you will appreciate it. Plus, I never really got into Scenes that much.. Maybe cause it was my first DT album and when I heard it, just kinda thought meh... |
hey those who wanted that lie w/ tool bits in it...it's notw orking for some erason sorry ><
eug008, you could get it yourself couldn't you? you're the one that sent me the daily upload issue haha |

I'm not too big a fan of tool, I thought they'd accused DT of stealing a riff or something in Lie  |
im pretty sure awake came out b4 anything tool did.
but i could be wrong. and i'm probably wrong. |

yea it is...that's why you sent it to me..?
unless you didnt know the lie w/ tool was in the bootleg NP: the silent man-pipo & elo :] |
Damn i'm an idiot...
|
im pretty sure awake came out b4 anything tool did.
im pretty sure awake came out b4 anything tool did.
Nope. Tool released Opiate around 1992 and Undertow in 1993. |
When Dream & Day Reunite is freaking amazing.
|
What's this Tool jam? I've never heard about it.
DT are obviously Tool fans though, seeing as they ripped off the bassline from 46&2 in Home :p |
don't forget about "The Great Debate". Some of it is pure Tool rip-off through and through.
|
ehh....rip-off or not...DT > TOOL
/end argument :smoke: the great debate is an awesome song though yupyupyup NP: erotomania-pipo&elo these guys are awesome :] |
ehh....rip-off or not...DT > TOOL
/end argument :smoke: the great debate is an awesome song though yupyupyup NP: erotomania-pipo&elo these guys are awesome :]
123, I've been learning erotomania on bass recently, its so fun to play once you get it right. I'm actually so excited about SCORE though, i cant wait to see the whole of SDOIT played live with an orchestra and then octavarium w/orchestra its gonna sound so sweet. So who knew that james laBrie's real name is kevin? |
i did haha
there was already a kevin moore though, so he used his middle name... SCORE should be orgasmic. NP: another day-acoustic dreams version |
don't forget about "The Great Debate". Some of it is pure Tool rip-off through and through.
I never understood this comparison. What exactly are they ripping off? Tool used to be my favorite band, and I never got a Tool-vibe from TGD. |
i did haha

NP: another day-acoustic dreams version
Damn:p:lol: You heard the demo version of 'You not me' its called 'you or me' IMO its much better, but i think they changed it to be more commercially accessable cus FII was supposed to be their more commercial album. The only part thats not as good is that funky little breakdown in the middle. Its off 'when demos and singles unite' |
As some of you may have noticed, I'm getting slightly more into Tool with their new album, but I still think DT are so far ahead of them they can't even see them over the horizon.
I really like FII, the ballads really really rule. |
hahaha wanna here something funny? someone tried to tell me that kurt cobain was a better guitarist than john petrucci. LOL!!! some one obviously can't recognize talent. :amaze:
|

That's not funny...that's just disheartening... |

Pure Idiot |

there's one thing cobain was better than petrucci at. using drugs. in other words, i got busted by a cop tonight. looong story haha :] what a crazzzzy night |

I think i can beat that unfortunatly:( Someone once tried to tell me that blink182 were better than DT His reasoning was "DT is all liek twinkly music mate" |

I really like FII, the ballads really really rule.
Yeah i think you're right, DT are miles ahead of tool but i am still a big tool fan. Yeah although FII was more commercial i still think it was really good. 'Take away my pain' is really beautiful especially live on once in a livetime with the alto sax. Although i would have to say my favourite of the album is Trial of tears. |
trial of tears is really great.
i also love budokan hollow years and peruvian skies for sure. |
trial of tears is really great.
i also love budokan hollow years and peruvian skies for sure.
I love the little 'Have a cigar' bit in peruvian skies on 'OIALT' it links in and out seamlessly. I finally found out what those random metal things on the floor near petrucci are, apparently they are just glorified foot-rests for when he has to play a difficult passage:p |
yea..haha
he keeps putting his foot on it. i got his 6-string sig today :] the dark red sunburst or whatever... a bit pricey, but i was short on cash and the guy even threw in the piezo switchbox and some cables as part of the deal so i got more for my $ :] |

I really want myungs six string fretless he plays on Through her eyes on scenes from new york...But that must cost a bomb and i'm only working part time |
I think i can beat that unfortunatly:(
"Twinkly Music"
Tell me about it:confused: Was a bluddy emo as well, i refused to talk to him for the rest of the night after that. |
Hahaha I remember that! And then you threw that rock he found, with the blink182 lyrics on, into the sea. He cried for like...an hour.
|

Yeah, then he tried to make a DT stone to "prove" they were sellouts, then he went and spelt it wrong funny stuff:lol: |
DT are unimaginative, uncreative and unexciting. There music is some of the boringest ever composed.
|
Prog: boring and unimaginative?!!!!
How is that possible? Are you sure it wasn't an indy band you were listening to? Called...lametheater or something? |
