Distant Echoes 08-30-2005 02:55 PM

I transcribed the keyboard solo at the end fo guitar...it's actually quite simple, only about a page in legnth. Getting the sound though, different story.

Welcome to the Machine is my favorite song on the album, but only when Im listning to the album. Hearing it single also seems boring and pointless.

marmalade_skies 08-30-2005 03:01 PM
that song always really bored me. :)
Can you post it?

Yeah, same here. I love Waters erie vocals, and the keyboards are phenomenal.

Distant Echoes 08-30-2005 03:10 PM

Alright, Im gonna try to attach it, which usually doesnt work, so if not Ill just post it.

One of the few transciptions Ive made for Floyd...Next to The Sax solo's in DSOTM and the Vocal Solo in Great Gig. I love that one, but still am perfecting the tone changes.

This one is still mildly a rough draft, so any corrections you see just mention. It'll occupy the thread for a few more posts...

I really tried to squeeze the last few notes in the same bar.
Enjoy!

DeusExMachina 08-30-2005 03:31 PM

Awesome, thanks for the solo! You should put up the sax solos and the vocal solos. That would be ridiculously cool.

Distant Echoes 08-30-2005 04:22 PM

Thanks. I tend not to share the vocals solo...its my only source of pride.

I may eventually post the sax solo. I believe it's possible to get the one for Us and Them elsewere though, but I havent checked. I could imagine it's hard to do though...theres certain parts in Money that are challenging, but the rest is a breeze.

If anybody has any other ways to play the Welcome keyboard solo, please share. Specifically the sound...I could Imagine youd need a wah for some expression, a touch of delay, comp, and maybe some distortion; but the tone construction is out of my reach. All comments are welcome!

BigTrav415 08-30-2005 04:58 PM

I've just realized how cool of a song Any Colour You Like is. Such awesome guitar... it's just an insanely groovy and trippy song. I can't believe I never appreciated it much till now.

good to see this thread is still going strong..any comments on The Final Cut? Most people wither say its ok, love it, or hate it, me, i love it. i think its there best album thats in the closest form to a story. its just so personal and the vocals/instrumentals amaze me. and oh yeah i love that sax especialy! :chug:

DeusExMachina 08-30-2005 05:40 PM

I don't like The Final Cut (as anyone who has posted in this thread much will attest to). However, there are a couple tracks on it I love, particularly The Gunner's Dream and Your Possible Pasts. Mostly, I think it's just the dregs of The Wall.

BigTrav415 08-30-2005 06:07 PM

I was just looking at the group picture in the Meddle booklet, I have to say all of them look good with long hair except for Waters. He looks kind of freaky actually... sorry I'm wasting server space with crap posts like this, I'm just bored as hell.

Shazzam 08-30-2005 06:18 PM

Yeah Waters has a huge nose...

Wright looks like a completely differnt person in Live In Pompei though, I almost didn't recognize him at first.

marmalade_skies 08-30-2005 06:40 PM

Hey, distant echoes, thanks for the keyboard solo. I've gotta go learn to play it now. :D

To this day Any Colour You Like remains one of my favorite Floyd songs.

I refuse to listen to the Final Cut. Doesn't sound like it'd be my thing at all.

dude, i mean comon. if you wanna experoence all of Floyd you have to listen to every album. theres albums i love, and albums im not that fond of, but i dont just block it out. I mean despite nearly everyones oppinion in here most likely, i think Dark Side of The Moon is an amazing album, but albums like Animals and Obscured by Clouds are right up there if not tied with.

I've listened to every album but The Final Cut, I don't think I'll mind missing out on one. And I know how great OBC is.

Distant Echoes 08-30-2005 08:42 PM

If it were my choice, i wouldve never heard the final cut either, and im undoubtadly one of the biggest floyd fans here (lets not start a competition). I purchased all their albums, but right now just dont have More. Im not is a rush to get it either.

OBC is good, but too poppy. Doesnt sound like the floyd style, especially between Meddle and DSOTM

i love final cut, i mean i spin in circles singing and it seems like the almbus is over in 10 minutes. and about the great OBC, i find that album so relaxing and just..woh..haha good stuff. youve got the very relaxed like spinny music in it, just plain out awsome but weird, then some old fashioned Classic Rock with The Gold is in the... i mean you never realy here Floyd like that, just wow man i BOW to Floyd..

Riva 08-31-2005 01:06 AM

I love Obscured by Clouds whole-heartedly. It may be poppy, but it is still a great listen.

It's worth a listen. It's comparable to dsotm. It's such a good album, and people are like "Oh I'm a true Floyd fan, I won't listen to it because it's not the whole band".. **** that. It's such a good album. Lyrically probally their best work, it's deep. The solos are AMAZING, epic, although none of them are too long. The sax solos, all that good stuff. It's a good listen, I recommend every atleast give it a go. It's the album that got me into PF.

Although I respect your opinion, I think the Final Cut has the worst lyrics of any Floyd album.

There are a few ok songs though, I especially like The Hero's Return.

standard 08-31-2005 01:58 PM

Atleast someone has respect for opinions. :)

Well I say that for songs like Two Suns In The Sunset.

"The sun is in the east
Even though the day is done
Two suns in the sunset"

The song is about the atom bombs on Japan.

Maybe I like it so much because the lyrics connect with a lot of WW2, which Waters' father did die in.

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-31-2005 02:07 PM

I happen to enjoy "The Final Cut" (the song) quite a bit.

i thought it was pretty good, too

temporary 08-31-2005 07:06 PM

I personally thing its a real shame that The Final Cut turned out as poorly as it did. I really think the idea is a great one.
