lol I blank out listening to that album also. I dislike it.
He probably meant that he fell asleep while the music was still playing. Happens to me all the time. I think we know that you dislike it by now. :p |

I think we know that you dislike it by now. :p
I'm sorry, I'll shut up. Morningrise is the greatest album ever recorded. IMO! I can't get that feeling from GR or any album for that matter. |
They should rerecord Morningrise and Orchid, with better production + guitar tones and what not. Plus Mike's vox has increased greatly... those cds would become so much better.

No, because then I'd have to buy a new pair of pants. |

Too bad they've forgotten how to play most of that material :(. |
I'm sure they could relearn.

That would be so cool.. there should be a petition to do that or something. We could get like a billion names on that one. They probably hate that album by now, judging by how they've changed, and they never play anything off it live. EDIT: I mean Orchid. |
Yeah Mike didn't care for it due to his vocals I believe.. thats why if they redid them...:naughty:
I'd rather this then another Ghost Reveries... |

The reason why Orchid and Morningrise are so great lies on the recording quality. If they had superb recording quality, It wouldn't sound the same, I garauntee it. It shows how talented they are, they didn't need that good of quality when it came to recording, they just played. Not to mention Akerfeldt played all guitars and wrote/played every bass riff on My Arms, Your Hearse. The quality wasn't that great, which makes it so badass. I'm happy with the way Orchid and Morningrise sounds...if it sounded any different, I probably wouldn't like as much as I do now. |

I dunno, Ghost Reveries wasn't THAT bad...
Orchid would be AWESOME redone with BWP era vocals though. |
I'm not, I find them hard to listen to for extended periods of time, and his vocals weren't half as good.
Yeah Martin Axenrot busted out some pretty serious blast beats as his solo wound down.
You forgot to mention to the musical lesson Mikael gave and that little No Quarter jam they did. How long did you have to wait for your car man? People were there for like 90 minutes. The valets were the least professional I've ever seen them for all the shows I've been to at that venue.
I got my car in a flash. Not sure why it took so long for you guys. Where did you park? I parked near some club and a fast food trailer. The only thing is I live about 1.5 hours away, but traffic was surprisingly smooth both ways. Did you guys see the bum getting kicked out by the comedy club and the fire dept., ambulance, and police all getting into it for one homeless man? Also did you see the car accident near the entrace? What about the nude fashion model in the middle stories of the hotel next to HoB? Then there was thunder and lightning outside. Crazy night, crazy night. Oh and the show was seriously packed, hard to move around, Mikael said it was sold out. |
i put in the opeth cd and read the book/lyrics while i listen
I don't need to do that anymore...I have them all memorized. |

The bass is so fun to play for the first two albums - Morningrise more so. I really like the production on Morningrise, but I hate the clean vocals on Orchid with a passion. |

I don't like the vocals on Orchid that much either, Mikael was blooming...experimenting. Look at him now :) Yes! The bass on Morningrise is so intricate. On To Bid You Farewell alone, I have listened to that song over 200 times, and still can't think of how they recorded it. It's so complex. The bass totally makes that song, even the album. Morningrise is my all time favorite album. |

I agree with everything you just said. Isn't it nice when that happens? :) Don't listen to Darkness Of Greed when he bashes TBYF's bass tone, he's just a crazy Canadian. |
I think Orchid and Morningrise are absolutely perfect the way they are.

I was seriously going to say the exact same thing:thumb: The poorer/rawer quality gives the albums more atmosphere. Both albums are incredibly atmospheric albums to begin with so the poor recording quality played to that strength. I'm also going well out of my way to see Opeth next week. I hope I won't regret it:p |
Why would you regret it?
Speaking of seeing Opeth, I still don't have anyone to go with. |
I'm beating you know, and I don't like that... I like being in 2nd, because they're my second favorite band. :p |
I'd think re-recording Orchid and Morningrise would be awesome. Some of their best songs are on those records but are let down by the production. Hell, just re-recording Black rose immortal, Under the weeping moon or In the mist she was standing alone would do me. Wouldn't need any other music for at least a month then.
I may get to go to Spain this summer. The very first thing I saw was that there was an entire day dedicated to relaxing at a beach. A sunset/sunrise/full moon on a beach would be surreal while listening to Opeth.
Yes, Opeth is perfect music in exotic landscapes. That reminds me, I went to Europe last summer, and among the places I went to was Scotland... I stayed at this really old mansion that rents out rooms to people and it was in almost the middle of nowhere, and in the backyard was a HUGE amount of land... a gigantic forest with tall trees and a little creek that runs thru it, so beautiful. Then the forest stops and it leads out to a beach and the ocean. One day I went exploring and found myself in a part of the forest that I hadnt been in before. It was so big that I was kind of lost, and it was fun just roaming around these absolutely beautiful landscapes with no one else around, listening to music. Unfortunately for me, I didn't listen to Opeth yet then (sucks because I started to just a couple months later). I'm sure hearing the line "you are in a forest alone" while actually in a forest alone would have been great. |

Yeah, I think the reason why the two albums are special is because of the subpar recording quality. It gives them a great atmosphere. It would be interesting to hear them both with a polished sound but I don't know if it would have the same magic. And btw, what's wrong with the Orchid clean vocals? I love them, especially on Twilight is in My Robe. I don't like the death metal vox on that album that much though, sometimes a little too scratchy |

Speaking of seeing Opeth, I still don't have anyone to go with.
I don't know about you, but I went to see Opeth by myself last night. Felt kinda weird at first, but I got used to it. It sucks not being able to talk to someone throughout the show, but I chatted with a few opethians (does that word exist?). I still had a good time seeing opeth play. I agree with you naboo, orchid/morningrise are just meant to be absolutely perfect in every way, IMO. At first I didn't like their raw recording tone, but I got used to it, and I like it for what it is. It also shows how diverse opeth really is. |

Nothing is wrong with the vocals on Orchid, compared to other albums, it's an evolution. |

I definitely get the 'evolution' bit but I think the magic is enhanced if the tone is cleared up a bit. Nothing could make those songs any less. |
I also like the tone more raw on those albums, it just sounds so incredibley atmospheric to me. Although, the better quality is badass aswell!
Just listening to "When"..It is amazing how Mikael evolved with his clean vocals, from Orchid and Morningrise to My Arms, Your Hearse! |
How did Darkness get 15 posts ahead of me?
The end of When is like an orgasm on CD. |
