I wasn't aware that nu-metal was "complicated".

Shred Danson 03-02-2005 02:01 PM
can anyone suggest some bands that are like the old slipknot or just some bands like, nu-metal but no rap and are not simple, if you get what Im saying, with screaming/growling lyrics
Wow, someone who just loves old Slipknot.

( )

So what, are you a guitar solo hater or something?

master of shred 03-02-2005 02:12 PM

Righty...

I need some recommendations. This is the music genre styles I'm looking for;

Rock and Roll/Classic Rock; I'm talking AC/DC style here. Also, wouldn't mind some classic rock bands, but I do know a hell of a lot of classic rock bands, so I'll have to say wether I've got many songs by them or not.

Funk; A really good funk band wouldn't go a miss...

Cheers.

If you have no recommendations, leave the person alone, alright?

And for the 32109875482 time, this thread is about awnsering questions, not just saying a list of albums/bands to listen to. That is accepted, if it is something that is well thought out and said and informative to give the person some incentive to actually check out the music...

3rdplanet 03-02-2005 03:19 PM
Sorry for posting in the middle of a genre debate, but I have some recommendation requests.

I have Dream Theater's "Train of Thought", "Images and Words", and "Scenes from a Memory" (I also have the Live at Budokan DVD, and Liquid Tension's first album), and I am hoping to buy another album, which one album should I get next? Am I missing out on a classic?

Also, on a similar, progressive theme, I'm starting to like Symphony X, which album is best to buy first, to get me a real taste of the band?

And lastly, a first Helloween album, I like what I've downloaded, and would like to buy an album, and possibly build upon that.

Thanks a lot, I'll be happy if you can answer at least one of my questions.
I recommend Awake too, and The Dark Ride for Helloween, got no Symphony X suggestions sorry.
Been listening to Be by Pain of Salvation all day today and I love the piano in it.

Does anybody have any recommendations for similar stuff?
Some one has got to know some kick as piano/metal with a prog tinge?

KILO5203 03-03-2005 11:11 PM

What is a good black label society album? Thanks.

The blessed hellride is my favorite, stronger than death is another good one.
The blessed hellride is my favorite, stronger than death is another good one.
Both of those are great, but IMO the best is 1919 Eternal.

Rock N Roll: Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Chubby Checker, Elvis Presley, Everly Brothers, Col Joye and Boom Crash Opera.

Classic Rock: Tom Waits, JJ Cale, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Def Leppard, Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Uriah Heep, Toto, Steppenwolf, Stevie Wright, Grand Funk Railroad...

Bartender 03-04-2005 08:47 AM

If you're looking for AC/DC style rock and roll, check out Young Heart Attack. They're a young band, only have one album out to my knowledge (Mouthful of Love), but it's fantastic. The male vocalist (they have a male and a female vocalist, and the interplay between them is one of the highlights) seems to be trying to be both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson simultaneously. There's a track which steals part of a Who song, I think, and a cover of an MC5 song. Excellent live, too.

Mind Revolution 03-06-2005 08:45 AM

can someone recommend me some unearth

Dude3 03-06-2005 02:20 PM

What Cd should I get???

I'm going to buy a Cd later today. Here are the choices: Children of Bodom-Follow The Reaper and Death-Human. Which one should I get???

Bartender 03-06-2005 02:35 PM

Human, definitely. Follow the Reaper is probably CoB's best album so far, but everything Death have done is far better than everything CoB have done, so far.

MAthiAS 03-06-2005 02:52 PM
If you're bored, see if you think you know something I would like based on my current favorite artists...
Exodus and Judas Priest

And I'd personally go for Follow the Reaper, but I haven't heard all of Human.

For a while I've been on a long Classic rock/Dead Head/acoustic binge, but recently I've been blowing the dust off my metal albums and listening to alot of that again, but I've been eager for new music. Now, after cruising this forum for a couple weeks I really want to hear some more black metal. The only background i have in black metal is old mans child, old dimmu borgir, some "Filsofem" Burzum songs, and (not saying they ARE black metal for anyone who would like to tell me otherwise) Cradle of Filth. If anyone could make any reccomendations, especially particular albums and songs, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

any particular songs by Darkthrone, Immortal, Emperor, and Judas Iscariot?

Dancin' Man 03-06-2005 07:15 PM

I really like Emperor's later albums (Prometheus especially) but that's not really the old school black metal sound.

Hammerheart 03-06-2005 07:23 PM
any particular songs by Darkthrone, Immortal, Emperor, and Judas Iscariot?
Get all of each bands cd's. Get Judas Iscariots "Heaven in flames" especially though.

Dancin' Man 03-06-2005 07:39 PM

I don't have any Judas Iscariot yet. I still have yet to ever hear them.

iamtheking 03-09-2005 06:49 AM

I know alot of you here probably don't really like mordern rock or nu-metal but i need some suggestions on morden rock bands. My band is going to enter a talent show and We were thinking of doing a cover of some mordern rock song which is abit mainstream but still unknown to many people...Lyrics have to be clean too.....and its best if the guitar is in standard d tuning which makes it so much easier to play chords(our guitarist is good but he's abit sloppy joe on chords ) So can anyone please give me suggestions...thanks.

the2stranger 03-09-2005 09:01 AM

try Porcupine Tree, one of the GOOD rock bands, at the moment
or
Radiohead, Saybia, the flower kings
or otherwise

pff, and the level drops

Jet
Maroon 5
Franz Ferdinand
the darkness ( they're quite good actually)

enjoy

LeperAffinity 03-09-2005 09:10 AM
I don't have any Judas Iscariot yet. I still have yet to ever hear them.
I ca see why people like them, but personally they bore me somewhat. Some of the songs get repetitive.

hatchedinalab89 03-09-2005 02:44 PM

yo guys, was going to go to ozzfest this year, but west palm got cancelled due to the hurricanes. Im gonna need some....

Judas Priest
Black Label Society
Slayer
Atreyu

also, if you can think of any better ozzfest bands that were on ozzfest, i'd appreciate you list those. (i got black sabbath, slipknot, and hatebreed covered.)

EDIT: Not on ozzfest, but i like the way they sound, Rob Zombie.

MAthiAS 03-09-2005 02:53 PM

For Slayer, check out these songs:
Angel of Death
Postmortem
Raining Blood
South of Heaven
Mandatory Suicide
Agressive Perfector

and the albums Reign in Blood and South of Heaven are my favorites of Slayer, though Hell Awaits is considered pretty good (though I don't like it much) and Seasons in the Abyss is worth picking up.
