Oh man I'm looking at some concerts in my area (Toronto).
Where does Phil Collins get off charging $135 per seat? Maybe for Genesis I'd pay it...but not to hear his solo crap. Jeez... |
Sad thing is, my sister would probably pay the $135. Phil Collins is one of the weak spots in her musical taste.
|
**** anyone know how you can find out if theres concerts in vancouver cuz I've been lookin and i cant see ****....
|
You can check ticketmaster, or check the specific venues, or check the website of radiostations that play the music you like.
|
The trouble with ticketmaster is that you get gouged. Unfortunatly it's hard to find venues not with ticketmaster. No, I'm seeing zero shows soon.
|
I might see Van Halen next month, it depends if im able to get some money. But I doubt it :upset:

*gasp* What happened to the Dancing Man? |
Pixies from LC made me change. I'll go back in a week. I can't find my own posts with Elmo.
|
I just love the "OMG ROCK IS DEAD!" threads
|
Seriously, don't these kids learn? Rock is not dead, your idols are.
|
Does the singer from Dimmu Borgir try to sound like Gollum?
How cool is that, my posts are 12 hours and 1 minute apart. |
Jeez I find it so hard to play guitar...dayum my stubby fingers
|
I've got long gangly fingers so I'm set. Spekkin of which, band practice in 45 minutes.
|
I'm such a lazy sod. I still suck at guitar, 2 months after getting it. All I have is minimal, minimal speed. I know four chords and zero scales.
I'm more of a "let me screw around until I find a good riff or make a good chord" kinda player. I hate people like me. |
I have long fingers but I think they've become set in their ways from playing the flute and they sort of seize up when I try to put them on all the frets. This meaning I'm very very bad at bass :upset:
|
You're supposed to suck if you have been playing for 2 months.
|
^^^
I should have played bass. 2 less strings. |
You're supposed to suck if you have been playing for 2 months.
I could be alot better...two months is a long time. |
I love looking down on bass, it's funny how it pisses everyone off. :)
|
I like bass. It's a load of fun especially playing guitar solos on it. It just sounds so different. UNfortunatly I'm a pretty bad bass player. Guitar is where it's at for me. I sucked for the first 2 years but then I really started playing a lot and writing. Pop punk is the easiest stuff to start on (Weezer is great too) and the I went to grunge and after that I started writing and don't really play other peoples stuff any more (exzcept for acoustic Radiohead). I never actually played anyone elses metal (unless you count Tool and even then I only learned bits and pieces, excluding my acoustic Lateralus which is awesome but not yet recorded) and don't really write metal. I don't actually know what I write. Complex nu-metal maybe? It's got solos and cool progressions but it has the order of a normal numetal song (until about 2/3 the way through when it goes just get's wierd and is packed with interludes and solos and wierd stuff)
Did you like my rant? |
I like bass too, but it's just funny to get the bassists angry.
"It only has 4 strings, it's sooo easy" "Guitar>Bass" Ooh, you should see their reactions. I always make fun of the bassist in my band. I'll say things like " Turn your volume down, I can almost hear you " or " go stand in the corner, people don't need to see you, you're playing bass" :) |
I doubt I'm going to ever be any good, I've had my bass about a month and can't actually play anything at a remotely resembling reasonable speed :upset: At leat I don't get chords to learn, and you're right less strings :p
|
It's probably not as much of a pain in the *** to tune, either. You don't have to worry about drop this and drop that...
I want to downtune mine 2 steps, but I'm too lazy. |

Haha
Do you know theory? |
I do!
|

I'll say things like " Turn your volume down, I can almost hear you "
I'm gonna try that today. |
@sshole. I hate you theory people.
I'm taking the Hendrix approach to guitar. Take drugs, maybe set a few things on fire, and hope for the best. |
Haha
Do you know theory?
Thanks to playing other instruments I at least know theory and can read sheet music etc. Which is a blessing even though tabs often confuse me at the moment. |
I can read music, like I know what notes are what, but translating that to my hand for my axe just doesn't happen. And being able to know what notes harmonize, that also doesn't happen. Don't even get me started on scales... :(
|
Reading music is HARD, esp for guitar because there are different positions on the neck you can use to play the same thing. I gave it a shot once but got bored. I can read music from doing trombone for 6 years or something but guitar or bass is a different matter
I think i'll get one of those books sometime and start learning to read music It would be kinda cool and helpful |

I think my piano teacher gave up on my scales, sometimes I can remember them but usually she has to tell me which keys to press. I think she thinks I'm a retard. I'm not good with harmonies either, I'm the type of person who knows how things work but can't apply them to my actual playing. :( Being ad at things sucks. |

I suck at learning that stuff, thats why im taking music theory next semester |

Likewise. |
I hate my band. I have the worst drummer in the world and the most closed minded guitarist ever. Today I brought in a new song that has a 3/4 (actually it's 3/8 but there's hardly any difference) part. We had to spend half an hour teaching the drummer how to plya in 3/4 and he still can't do it. Then my guitarist started pitching a fit about how he just wants to rock. All he wants to do is play the same chord progression in 4/4 with the occasional solo. My bassist, while not amazing (but competent), is down for anything. Is it in anyway wrong to start a second band with this other kid I know who is an amazing drummer and take my current band's bassist with me?
|
Sounds like you want to be Pink Floyd, your guitar player wants to be AC/DC, and your drummer shouldn't be playing, period.
Take the bassist and go. |
I'm sure they'd be able to find someone with the same taste as they have and then you'd both be happy. Would save a lot of bother if you just ran off with the bassist. (I didn't mean that how it sounded)
|
I don't see anything wrong with it. Just so long your current guitarist and drummer don't take it the wrong way.
|
It's more I want to be Tool, guitarist wants to be The Used and the dummer wants to play George of the Jungle.
|
I like the you+bassist splitting off idea as well.
