What happens in this forum stays in here. If anyone was to even report a thread it would be a regular anyways.

I'd like to take this time to tell you all how much I hate One Life Crew.
also is unloved and weeded out a good album? and what are the best tracks from it?
"Downpour" and "Flowers and Razorwire", but that's a rarities album, basically.

BuddyBigsby 08-09-2004 12:27 PM

By the way, that Evergreen Terrace / The Red Chord / ALOL / Fear Before blah blah blah show the other night ruled. FBTMOF were great, but played mostly new songs. Damn the 90% of people that have heard them not liking them, they're good. Meshuggah... err, A Life Once Lost totally stole the show though. It was their first time playing this venue and they far exceeded my expectations. The mosh got insane for them too, which I totally wasn't expecting.

The Red Chord were second place in my book. Played some new stuff which was very good. I was in the front so I was the first one on stage for the massive breakdown at the end of "Dreaming In Dog Years" and had great mic action. Their set was surprisingly long. I was pretty beat by the time Evergreen Terrace came on, so I took it easy. That and that particular venue was about 100 degrees inside because they don't have an air conditioner. I was surprised that many kids stayed for them, I've seen them twice and both times the turnouts were less than large. Good show all in all.

However, there was suckage. I spent all my money by the time I came across the distro The Red Chord brought with them. Saetia, Kaospilot, Deadwater Drowning, Pig Destroyer, Backstabbers Inc., Casey Jones (From EVT, not the distro), Carcass, and a few others I held in my hand but did not have the money to buy :upset: *goes to Interpunk*

NewKindofArmy03 08-09-2004 01:03 PM

FBTMOF remind me of alexisonfire(or at least the songs i heard) and i'm not really into that type of stuff.

BuddyBigsby 08-09-2004 01:05 PM

FBTMOF are way more artsier than Alexisonfire too. You can hear some screamo in them even. I do see a similarity there though, now that you mention it.

MESSUGAH, 8 string guitars go boom.

What pussies, my 36 string 48 fret guitar blows them out of the water.

AndHagan 08-09-2004 01:12 PM

I like Messugah. Good band.

BuddyBigsby 08-09-2004 01:15 PM

NewKindofArmy03 08-09-2004 06:24 PM

Ew, SICKO! (the way Napolean Dynamite would say it)

40 oz 2 freedom 08-09-2004 10:08 PM

Oh, speaking of him, does anyone notice the striking resemblence between Napolean Dynamite and the keyboardist of HORSE the band?

syrUsbilt 08-09-2004 10:11 PM
You know what else is badass. Me being able to play the jazzy breakdown on "43% Burnt" by Dillinger Escape Plan on guitar now.
If you can't play the opening solo to that song you SUCK.

*taps fretboard maniacly*

Thats a crazy intro.

I have a real one, I saw them when I was in freshman year, my first hardcore show.

syrUsbilt 08-10-2004 12:52 AM
No, that's "Sugar Coated Sour." "43% Burnt" is the second track where its high note 4 times then a little rest and then two chugging hits." i can play that too.
whateva.

Let's Chop Cats! 08-10-2004 12:53 AM

Luckey bastard. I acidently saw them.

I went to a show and the venue has 2 stages (main and then a lounge) I told my friend and he was like AN is playing in the other room. So I stopped in watched a free songs, then left. A few years latter I get into hardcore. Stupid me.

BuddyBigsby 08-10-2004 01:13 AM

Well, Shane (the new guitarist) tabbed out the first minute or so on Powertab. The rest I found on some geocities website, but I have the link on another computer. I'll give you it next time I'm on it. It's still missing 3 or 4 parts, but I can play 95% of the song.

BuddyBigsby 08-10-2004 01:18 AM

Yes. So is one of the other guys. The drummer, I believe. And then the other Evelynn guitarist (I think) is in As I Lay Dying.

syrUsbilt 08-10-2004 01:40 AM

I prefer detuning to 8 string guitars. God the band Meshuggah is so horrible.

BuddyBigsby 08-10-2004 01:42 AM
Rockin. Thanks man. Don't they played down 1.5 steps though. I don't like detuning. It's tedious.
Yeah, but it's so fun to play after you detune. I usually tune down and then play nothing but BTBAM and Dead to Fall for a couple hours. It's in C# Standard.

FungusAmngus870 08-10-2004 01:44 PM

i would just like to say thank you for writing this thread, its one of the best ones i have read in a really long time. everything was basically 100% correct.
I consciously write metalcore in standard tuning to make it so I have to use my ability to make everything powerful and intense. I find it's more challenging and yields more interesting songs. Granted I may not be as good at my instrument as the guitarists in Between the Buried and Me, I think I can write some good songs.
I think it is best to write in standard tuning, unless you are in a funk of writing either nothing or very similar stuff.

Silvermedalmafia 08-10-2004 02:35 PM

Then you switch to weird tunings, like DADGDG.

BuddyBigsby 08-10-2004 03:28 PM

I'm equally untalented and uncreative in every tuning, so it doesn't really matter for me.

40 oz 2 freedom 08-10-2004 03:39 PM
I'm equally untalented and uncreative in every tuning, so it doesn't really matter for me.
I'm in the same boat you are. At least when I try to write hardcore songs. :upset:
