So I'm 19 today.

On Saturday night I filled my local venue with about 50 of my friends and had 5 local bands perform in my honor. It was the best birthday party in history.
Good times. Happy B-Dizzle.

ATM 10-16-2006 02:23 PM

Yea, happy birfday Zappa. My 21st is real soon.

Woah, woah, woah. How long have these "music maps" been on RYM? They're a pretty neat feature.

Happy b-day Zappa. Sounds like a pretty cool way to spend a birthday. Did you know/pick the bands?
Happy b-day Zappa. Sounds like a pretty cool way to spend a birthday. Did you know/pick the bands?
Yes indeed. Being involved in the local music scene basically made the whole thing possible. The bands all played for free, and I got the building for my means free of charge as well.

The first band that played was a duo (guitar/vocals) featuring a young guitarist I was in a ska band with earlier. They're a silly pop-folk group called William Cereal. They hadn't had a show yet, so I thought I'd let them break in the material among friends, and it's sounding pretty good. The next was a post-rockish duo (drums/guitar) of two friends of mine calld Christopher Reeve And his Intrepid Rolling Machine. They are busy in another band (see below) lately, so haven't played the Reeve's stuff too much, but they said they'd break it out for me. I like them. Then an unplanned math-rock duo (drums/guitar) called Big Ass Weapons took the stage for about 10 minutes, and were really good. Once again, these were friends of mine. Next was a singer-songwriter by the name of Sycamore Smith who I do not know as personally, because he's in his thirties and is amazing. His set was great, and he played brand new songs. The last band was Junglekatagility, which features the guitarist from Big Ass Weapons, both members of Christopher Reeve's, and an additional bassist. They put on the best show I'd ever seen out of them that night.

So yeah, sweet times were had. I took lotta photographs, and I'm going to put them on FACEBOOK college college college.

Robert Crumb 10-16-2006 08:53 PM

Awesome stuff Zappa.

I only just made a myspace last week. And it's not even for me, it's to promote my radio show. I haven't looked at since I made it. Haven't even added anyone. I'm so lame.

Eliminator 10-16-2006 08:54 PM

i'm so game

Sam 10-16-2006 09:01 PM

Sounds like a good time man. The best local shows are always the ones when a bunch of your friends are in all the bands, and the members of all the bands mix together and stuff.

Anxious 10-16-2006 09:50 PM

Zappa has friends. Loser.

Happymeal 10-17-2006 09:24 AM
