The Fall Of Troy
As most of you know, I really do not dig this band. But I heard their live show is pretty interesting so I watched them. Overall, they were okay. Admittedly Thomas Erak is good at guitar but in my opinion, it doesn't fit with their music very well. Just because he shreds (which like I said, he does, he's a spectacular guitarist) and all the scene kids go, "Oh, Thomas Erak is sooo good at guitar," it just doesn't work with that whole poppy/spazzy blood brothers thing they go for. Anyway, I know they didn't play "F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X." but their new song called something along the lines of "As Creation Does" sounded really neat actually. They played some song where everyone was singing along and for the final song, Erak came down into the crowd with mic to scream or something. Anyway, sorry I'm not more descriptive, but overall I'd give them a 6/10. HORSE The Band Incredible set. I had heard rumors about them playing drunk and putting on some crazy shows and they were pretty much confirmed. The keyboardist looks exactly like Napoleon Dynamite and the band members are pretty goofy. They played mostly stuff from the new album with plenty of goofy between song chatter. The keyboardist and guitarist are really good at their instruments and the vocalist goes pretty nuts. The pits were pretty intense and kids were freaking out everywhere around me. Anyway, they ended with "Cutsman" and shit went nuts for the breakdown. Fun and interesting set, I enjoyed it thoroughly. 8/10 Poison The Well As most of you know, the reason I was at the show. Zombies Are Good For Your Health Turn Down Elliot New Song Punker (One of their new demos that got leaked) Slice Paper Wrists New Song Crystal Lake 12/23/93 New Song Botchla Artist's Rendering Of Me First off, I was kind of suprised and disappointed to find out that only about 1/4 or less of the kids were actually there for Poison The Well. I knew that there would be a lot of scene kids there for Fall Of Troy but I was hoping for a more massive Poison The Well fan base. I was about 2 rows of people away from the stage and the pits and pushing were not bad at all. About 3x less worse than HORSE the Band. But I enjoyed their set thoroughly nonetheless. Their guitars were really loud and Jason Boyer (replacement for guitarist Derek Miller who left the band a little while ago) and Ben Brown (replacement for bassist) Geoff Vegas played great. Jeff is actually a huge guy and he is extremely intense live. His screams were huge, his trademark spoken word parts were awesome and although his singing had suffered a little bit by the end, he nailed the notes well. Ryan (Primack, guitarist and original member) played awesome live, he did some amazing stuff with his guitar. I was actually pleasantly surpised by their set; although I would have liked to hear (and expected to hear more from) more from You Come Before You, particulary their softer songs, I thought they weren't going to play much old stuff at all so it was great to hear the older material, especially "Turn Down Elliot," didn't expect that. I guess they like the play the heavier stuff live. Their new songs sound really amazing, I don't know how to really explain it. Their more droning and although Jeff does more singing, the songs usually have really heavy parts where Jeff gets intense. Their alot like the demo songs ("Oceanbreast" particulary). Ending with "Artist's Rendering Of Me" was one of the most righteous experiences ever; every fucking fan was singing along for the "I could never swallow your false ideals" part. "Slice Paper Wrists" was a real big crowd pleaser too, they slowed down the first breakdown part. "Zombies..." and "Crystal Lake" were super heavy and intense too. But alas, because of the lack of fanbase, our chants of "one more song" were in vain. But anyway, very pleasantly suprising set. Incredible experience. 9/10 |
Sounds like an awesome show Chris. I really wish that tour was coming here.
I'm seeing Horse the Band in June though. |
I'm pretty sure that show is here tonight..
I would've rather seen that than the ToC considering Thursday cancelled :( |
Sounds like an awesome show Chris. I can't wait to see Fall of Troy at Warped this summer. I'm a big FOT fan, haha.
|
Taking Back Sunday tonight!!!!! I'm so pumped for it. I'm leaving in about an hour!
|
Yo that's sick.

Last night:
Suicide City So I really hadn't heard much of their music, just a song off purevolume, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Well they were pretty hmmm 'weird' they were pretty lame, but man did they have some intense energy. It was just pathetic because the crowd wasn't really into them at all. I enjoyed their set though, it was okay. Tokyo Rose I enjoy listening to this band but I didn't routinely listen to them before the show. Well they sucked haha, they didn't have any energy at all and the singers mic was really low he wasn't singing loud at all and he sounded terrible. On their recordings his voice sounds really good, but he sounded very very annoying. Plus there was this group of about 5 kids in the pit that were being fucking bitches so I was occupied with them for a while haha. Taking Back Sunday They took FOREVER to set up and it was pissing me off and by now I was pissed off because Tokyo Rose sucked and I was about to go insane on these kids. But then they finally came out and they were fucking AMAZING. It was such an intense show and they had so much energy. Adam's mic skills are soooooo sweet haha. They made the show INCREDIBLE. I had a great time. Next Show: May 25, Angels and Airwaves |
Saw LAwrence Arms and No Use For A Name together for the second time each on thurs.
NUFAN were better last time, but TLA were simply amazing. Terrifc performance |
Speakerfire
Good as usual. They're local, but I'm pretty sure they're not completely unknown anymore. Check 'em out: http://myspace.com/speakerfire New Atlantic I don't know much of their music as it is, but they played a lot of new songs. They were alright, but a bit boring. Valencia They were really good. I knew most of their songs, and they had a good amount of energy. The crowd wasn't digging it though, as most of the people at the show were there to see the next band... Cute Is What We Aim For Okay, I'll admit, I liked these guys the first couple times I saw them, but now, not so much. They old songs are still good, but the new stuff was bordering on horrible. The band, particularly the lead singer, seems caught up in the new found fame too. Also, MTV was taping their entire set. Since when does a band with no albums or EPs get filmed for MTV. And, to cap it all off, 4/5 of the crowd (about 400 people) left before the headliner, Punchline, even came on. Seriously, what the fuck? If any band deserves the recognition that CIWWAF is getting, it's PUNCHLINE! They worked hard for years, and put out serveral excellent albums, and gotten no recognition compared to what Cute is getting without yet releasing an album. Punchline I love this band. Absolutely incredible, as usual. This was the sixth time I saw them, and they didn't disappoint whatsoever. They didn't seem at all concerned that almost everyone had left. They set was so much fun, and they played a perfect mix of old and new songs. When they finished their set, everyone was calling for one more song. It took the band a second to respond to that call, because they said they weren't expecting it at all, even though they deserved it. Overall, great show. Punchline showed yet again why they are such a great band. This band deserves a lot more recognition, and I hope that they start to get it. Even if they don't, I'll always be there to see them when they roll through town, because they've earned as much respect from me as almost any other band. - Oh, and just so everyone knows, Cute's set did have a bitter-sweet upside. They announced that they would be touring with JACK's MANNEQUIN! In my opinion, Cute doesn't deserve to be in the same room with Andrew McMahon, but it doesn't matter. I'll do whatever I have to to get to this tour. It's awesome that Andrew McMahon is going to be playing shows again. :D :D |
Ugh. I have heard the new CUTE and it's LAME.
They're turning into PATD or FOB. It's so dumb. Andrew McMahon is a God. |
They're turning into PATD or FOB. It's so dumb.
Hahaha, Fall Out Boy is 100x better than new Cute. At least Fall Out Boy still has some good music, and they actually had to work hard to get to the top. Cute has been a band for like two years at the most. Panic! didn't have to work that hard to get to where they are, but they make better music than Cute.
Andrew McMahon is a God.
TRUTH. <3 Andrew McMahon. |
So they're worse than FOB and Panic then.
That's HORRIBLE :( |
I know. I was actually excited for them when they got signed, but now I could care less.
And, and what's even worse, rumor has it that they didn't even do the writing for their upcoming album. |
Yeah I've heard that.
Some pop writer did. WTF kind of band does that now. |
I haven't heard of anyone doing it since like the Backstreet Boys.
 CIWWAF = the new Backstreet Boys w/ instuments ?! |
Basically..
That's so lame it's not even funny anymore. Some bands are seriously pathetic. I could understand wanting fame. But not even writing your own songs?! |
I know. And from the couple new songs they played, the writing isn't good. The one song was like:
"If you lie, you don't deserve friends, If you lie, you don't deserve them, If you lie, you don't deserves friends, If you lie..." How the hell lame can you get? |
LMFAO
I hereby abandon this conversation. As it is making me want to throw up. |
Hahaha, me too.
Imagine how it felt being at the show tonight, watching their set. - Oh, and to un-lame this thread again: Against Me! and Alkaline Trio tomorrow. :D |
Against Me! should be good. I bet. I wouldn't mind seeing them.
|
Against Me!
This was my second time seeing them, and they were really good. I didn't know as many songs as I did last time I saw them, but I think it's because they played more songs from Searching For A Former Clarity, which I am not really too familiar with. Either way, they were awesome. Alkaline Trio These guys really impressed me. As most of you know, I pretty much hated this band up until a couple months ago. I've grown to like them more over the past month or two, and tonight was enough for me to say that I know really like these guys. They started out their ser by playing Goddamnit! in it;s entirety. That was probably the best par of the show, because knowing they would be playing the whole album, I listened to Goddamnit! serveral times over the last month. After they had finished Goddamnit!, they played five acoustic songs in a row. The first two were done by Matt, the next two by Dan, and the last as an entire band. Even though I only knew 2 or 3 of these songs, it was definitely a cool way to mix things up, and give everyone a break. They then went on and played a whole bunch more songs, including a lot of their singles/hits, so I was familiar with a fair amount of them at least. All in all, their set was about an hour and a half long (AM!'s was 40 minutes). They had an awesome stage set-up, that included three different banners, and a ton of awesome lighting effects. The one banner had three clocks on it, but when certain lights were put on it, the faces of the clocks became skulls. It was sick. Overall, great show. Having not known what to expect from Alk3, I was very pleasantly surprised. - Upcoming shows: 4/21 - Fall Out Boy, AAR, Hawthorne Heights, FFTL, October Fall 4/24 - Folly, Underminded, One Dead Three Wounded 4/26 - Righteous Jams 4/28 - Matchbook Romance, The Early November 4/30 - At All Cost |
That whole CIWWAF deal is a real big bummer. That sucks big time, I used to like them, but now I'm not even looking forward to any new music. Bummer...Brian you are so lucky you got to see Punchline shooooot I love them.
Also super pumped for Andrew McMahon touring again!!!!! |
I just got bak from less than jake/dropkick murphys, it was great. I wasn't expecting either band to be so good
|
Less Than Jake are just awesome live.
|
I don't like Less than jake, but i admit they were good. Theyr really have alot of energy on stage
