I can play Tom Sawyer

Never bothered w/the solo though

BludgeonySteve 08-30-2005 10:12 PM

Unless I could perform a song live, I don't say that I can play it.

So that pretty much leaves 5 songs I know...

thunderzstruck 08-31-2005 03:19 PM

Then that leaves zero :(

Maggot Dream 08-31-2005 03:21 PM

I can play YYZ and La Villa Strangiato, but not nearly well enough to play live.

SmartJosh 08-31-2005 03:38 PM

Rush is an incredible band, musically and vocally. Lyrically, though, they are at best, above average(Fly by Night, Anthem, etc.) and at worst, brutally pretentious (the Trees. Gag). I think neil peart is an awesome drummer, but a bad writer. He tries to use too many ridiculous, clunky, metaphors. *Cough*Trees*cough*
...La Villa and YYZ are GREAT though...
...and don't get me wrong, Geddy is a GREAT singer, he just doesn't get good mat. from neil.

thunderzstruck 08-31-2005 03:41 PM

Yeah, the trees metaphor was REALLY bad

gjbassist 08-31-2005 04:21 PM

Rush has been my favorite band for 23 years (wow I'm getting old!!!). I have seen them in concert eight times including the 30th aniversary tour last year. They are the best live band I have ever seen in terms of sound. No one else can touch them musically! In other words RUSH RULES!!!

marmalade_skies 08-31-2005 06:51 PM
I don't think I have met someone who has perfered Johnson to Bon
I actually don't prefer either. I think both are good vocalists and can't really be compared because they sing in different styles. But that's my opinion.

Sorry for getting off topic. Back to Rush...

It's ok to go off topic every once in a while, or else we would run out of things to talk about ;)

That's awesome man. I can't wait until they come around here again.

Welcome to the boards.

BludgeonySteve 09-01-2005 09:53 AM

Would anyone else call a Rush tribute band stupid? I mean, Rush is still a band! Abd plus that serious musical blasphemy.

thunderzstruck 09-01-2005 10:07 AM

indeed

especially when they're still out and kicking ass right now

marmalade_skies 09-01-2005 10:56 AM

Plus, who can play Neil's drums as well as he can.

I'm trying to learn La Villa Strangiato and Limelight right now and they're crazy.

Hep Kat 09-01-2005 11:16 AM

nobody can play drums like neil

Cain 09-01-2005 11:24 AM

Yeah, if we didn't go off topic more we'd become like the Opeth official thread and this would become nothing but a circular ejaculation fest. ;)

Dread_rocker 09-01-2005 11:33 AM

Anyone else heard about the "R30" dvd coming out this fall? It's from a show last year in Germany!!

marmalade_skies 09-01-2005 01:21 PM

Sounds cool.

I have the Rush Chronicles Video Collection.

bibbl 09-01-2005 02:12 PM

Hey, somebody banned me. I think it's because I tried to start a Nirvana thread. I don't know what that's about. Nobody told me there were any rules against that.

Anyway, it's me marmalde_skies, don't be fooled by the new name.

La Villa Strangiato has to be the most fun song to play on drums. No lulls at all, great stuff.

haha

isn't that what we want >_>

Maggot Dream 09-02-2005 03:18 PM

Anyone have any thoughts about Rush's live quality? I like Rush in Rio, but I have to say I like Rush better in studio.

Rush also has another DVD coming out, called R30. It's the concert they played in Frankfurt in their 30th anniversary tour. Looks pretty awesome to me.

Any recommendations on some older live Rush?

thunderzstruck 09-02-2005 03:22 PM

I love Rush in Rio, but that's all I have heard of live recordings. I used to have a live YYZ w/extended drum solo but I don't know where that went :-/

I have that, it's awesome. I have video too, great stuff. Geddy looks pretty funny in it, very accentuated nose.

eriatarka 09-02-2005 04:22 PM

oh rush is so great.they're all amazing musicians.Geddys voice takes some getting used to but its all good.I have moving pictures and 2112.I heard they were coming to toronto but that might've just been a rumour....

If you give me your email, I'll send it to you.

I have Different Stages and I checked out Exit...Stage Left from the library. They're both pretty good, but I think I like their studio sound better.

Maggot Dream 09-02-2005 06:37 PM

I have a live version of Xanadu, I like it better than the studio version. I think it may be from Ext...Stage Left, but I could be wrong.
