I thought a few songs here and there were good on With Teeh, but for the most part it was a different NIN sound to me... kinda disappointed...

Kage 05-04-2005 09:48 PM

^^^Well, yes, the sound is different and that's a good thing. Sure some people won't pick up on it, and others will but that's always the risk good artists run when their music evolves. He didn't set out to make TDS Pt. 2.
I loved the new album as well and you're right..it gets better and better with every listen. About the whole secret track thing. I've also listened to the album straight through and didn't find anything...it's just those extra lyrics that appear on the With Teeth site. Maybe something new will pop up somewhere on the site later on. Who knows.
That would be really interesting and I definately wouldn't put it past NIN, but I thought I heard some talk earlier about someone actually having heard a secret track. Maybe I misunderstood?

There are two bonus tracks on the Japanese Import. Something called "Home", and an all-piano version of "Right Where It Belongs". Of course, the import costs thirty bucks.

But no, no hidden tracks.

heavy metal kid 05-04-2005 10:33 PM

i'm hearing for the first time the album, all the love in the world sounds like a decent song.

Yeah, I mentioned something about perhaps there being a hidden track somehwere. I was just asking though..in case I had for some reason missed it. I guess I was misunderstood. Heh. Sorry for the confusion. ;)

talk show host 05-04-2005 11:17 PM

I'm still not sure what I think of this album.

There are some great songs on there, but i'm just not feelin' it :(

i just listened the whole album and is not a great thing, it's just another good NIN work, still i enjoy it.
I think we've got two bonus tracks in the UK as well, on the subject of hidden tracks. I'll upload later if I'm right, and there's interest.
Yeah, there's definitely some interest here. Heh. I'd like to hear the bonus tracks you guys got. I'd really appreciate it.

Kage 05-05-2005 07:47 AM
I know what you mean...I got it two days ago, and while at times it's really excellent, it seems a bit forced somehow, as if Reznor is trying to channel some of his energy into the album, but it isn't quite working. Maybe I had too high expectations going in, thanks to the gap between albums and the quality of his previous work, but so far it's disappointed me a bit. I don't really understand how it's getting such great reviews in some quarters, based on the first few listens, but there you go....I think we've got two bonus tracks in the UK as well, on the subject of hidden tracks. I'll upload later if I'm right, and there's interest.
Oh, there's interest. There's a lot of interest.

And I don't know if the same case applies for you, but I know that the first time I listened through The Downward Spiral, I just didn't get it and couldn't get into it. After the third or fourth listen, I was absoultely blown away. Some of the songs that were orignally my least favorite on that album are now my favorites, etc. In other words, NIN took time to grow on me. The Fragile was the only NIN album I liked immediately. Although, with TDS, there's a lot to that album as far as its concept and things like that, and there's a lot to discover. I'm not sure if that's necessarily the case with the new album, but I've been listening to it nonstop since I got it, and I'm finding different things every time.

repcak 05-05-2005 09:00 AM

hi, that's me again....after a long time.
i still don't have the cd, but i have interest too to get the hiden track!
by the way: is anybody here from japan?? in europe there are 13 tracks and in japan 16!!

Shred Danson 05-05-2005 10:41 AM

I actually saw Trent Reznor last Saturday. NIN was in town because of Coachella fest and I was in Palm Desert going to a movie and a went to the restroom to expel forth my urine. As I was walking out, some lanky dude with long hair walked in, and I was like, "whoa, he looks familiar for some odd reason". Then I looked back and I said to myself "that's Trent Reznor!". I can say now with a little bit of pride that I saw Trent Reznor take a piss.

(wow, self pwnage  )

- The last word to describe Trent is "lanky". He's a short guy, and right now he's sporting a massive set of guns. I'm pretty sure you didn't see Trent.

edit:

AWESOME review of the new NIN album:

That has to be the best review I've ever read :D

I don't wanna comment too much on the album yet. but I've listened to it a good 10 times, and I fugging love it. Ok, it's different from the rest of the albums, but the difference is a good thing. Standout tracks for me are All the Love In the World, Only, Getting Smaller.......screw it, I'm basically just gonna list every track. That's what I think is the most important part of the album; no filler.

Just a note, on the UK version, there's a song called Right Where It Belongs V.2. It's basically just a quiet version of the original, and I think I actually prefer it. Just wondering if anyone else has heard it.

Yeah, I just heard it a while ago (thanks to Med57 for uploading that one and "Home" :thumb: ). Anyway, it sounds good but I think I actually prefer the original version...I don't know. I like the whole crowd thing and the effects that were used. Eh, they're both just as good. :D

Madame Bulimia 05-05-2005 12:51 PM

It seems as if the man has still got it in terms of his technical brilliance, but cant bring himself to write more than like one good song on the album. And it sure as hell isnt "The Hand that Feeds"

Not to mention his lyrics always sucked.

Yeah....I dunno, I've still to decide properly which I prefer.....I just love V.2 so much.

I definitely dig the vocal melodies found on this album. There are some really great "pop-oriented" songs on the album that I would expect to hear in Abercrombie & Fitch (the music at least), but don't think I'm knocking that!!! I like the album; morso than The Downward Spiral (which aside from about 4 songs, I really don't like). However, With Teeth just can't come close to topping The Fragile. I'm not sure any NiN album ever could though, because The Fragile is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. I guess I'd give With Teeth 4 stars out of 5.

NOTE: I've only listened to the album straight through once so far :thumb:

I got the album and my official With Teeth clothing line in the mail today. I've listened to it like 4 times now, and I really really love it. I still think there are some parts that are really bad, but no songs that are bad overrall. Like, the chorus to With Teeth is bad, and Only has really bad elements to it, but they're all good songs overrall. I'm not let down at all, I love it.

misunderstood 05-05-2005 06:49 PM

There is an update at the NIN access page. It's a rather interesting if anyone wants to check it out. He talks about the pdf. file, equipment, music he plays before each show, the new album.. :naughty: .. and some other stuff. Anyway, just thought I'd inform you guys...in case anyone is interested.

Kage 05-05-2005 07:17 PM

Trent keeps referring to some big thing that will happen, or some series of smaller events that will lead up to it. He refers to it as the "master plan" and always talks about how we should stay tuned and look forward to it and see what will happen, etc etc. I have no idea what this is, but I can say that I'm so eager to know what he's on about.

Anyone else excited that he's already working on the new album?

He's ALREADY working on it???
I thought he was going to take a little break and then start again on it. That awesome if he does.

And where do you get all this information? Is it from interviews and stuff? Because the only part I've heard about from all tha info, is about the "keep checking back to this site" thing.

And everyone seems to know alot more stuff than I do... I'm guessing interviews

Kage 05-05-2005 08:04 PM

Sort of... there's a section on the official NIN site where Trent answers questions from fans from time to time.

misunderstood 05-05-2005 08:13 PM

Yeah, I've read a few interviews where he talks about that "master plan"..and well, now we have it on the offical NIN site. I wonder what it is...It's killing me. Heh. But anyway, I'm pretty d@mn pyshced about him working on a new album already...in the meantime though, With Teeth is just awesome.

Lazy Beggar 05-05-2005 08:17 PM

Just thought I would say that thanks to this thread I got into NIN, got TDS first and then Fragile. Must say I prefer TDS but still I like Fragile, not sure what side I prefer yet though. I got PHM tonight and I wasn't too impressed by it on first listening and I got WT aswell, which I am listening to now, seems quite good.

I checked NIN out a while ago but found it too heavy for my liking but recently I have been getting into a more broad spectrum of music, and I found myself liking heavier bands like Tool and I seen them mentioned in this thread so I thought, "I might aswell check them out, it probably can't kill me." Pleased I did. So cheers.

Kage 05-05-2005 08:24 PM

^^That's awesome. I love hearing stories like that. Spreading the NIN word is always a good thing.
