I see that it was just mentioned, but is it just me or is the solo in Hooch pretty **** good?
IMO, the best songs of Sum41 (and my favorite songs of the entire punk->rock genre, excluding metal)= 88, No reason, I'm not the one, We're All to Blame, Bitter End, Welcome to Hell, PFP, Grab Devil..., Fat Lip, Hyper Insomnia, Hooch, Cover of Metallica. You'll notice that a lot of the list is some of their newer stuff. Its not because its trendy right now, but IMHO, they just released some killer heavy songs that i love.
Yeah. I liked there old stuff, but there new stuff blew me away. Awesome songs on Chuck

true, my favorite songs by them were listed like 8 times now, and I don't feel like posting them again, but I really like all of their songs equally

agreed to full extent

sum 41 is my favorite band of all time alongside the offspring. i think their music does get better with every album and i hate it when people call them pop punk. listen to chuck and u'll realize theyre going in a more metallic direction.

hopeulikemygenocide 02-20-2005 06:44 PM

o yeah. im going to the sum 41 concert here in hawaii on march 9th. its gonna rock.

hopeulikemygenocide 02-20-2005 06:56 PM

just thought i'd share with u that ive noticed sum 41 does almost kind of copy music from other bands. "the bitter end" is so similiar to metallica's "battery". when i first heard it my jaw dropped because theyre so much alike. also the intro riff in mr amsterdam is very similiar to the riff in the offspring's "dammit, i changed again".

yeah i agree the solo is pretty awsome same with the no brains solo

DJ Ducksauce 02-20-2005 09:09 PM

The new Sum 41 sound is cool, but I loved their poppy songs like In Too Deep and Makes No Difference.

they are really good, I've not heard the Offspring. and they aren't going towards any band, they are just changing styles

if you ACTUALLY listen to it and pay attention to it Sum 41 doesn't copy Battery at all and I wish that people would quit saying it, because it isn't trus, the chord progressions sound the same but they kinda have to, and I've never heard that song by Offspring

agreed, my band likes those so much we considered covering both of them at a live performance, and we chose Makes No Defference because of the amazing choreography that Sum 41 made up themselves

i guess copy is a little harsh but u hafta admit they are similiar. they use the number of syllables in "bit ter end" the same way metallica used "bat ter y". but i like the bitter end much more than battery so who cares? (flashing the 41 salute)

hopeulikemygenocide 02-20-2005 09:55 PM

on a side note, how many of sum's solos can u guys play? ive only mastered the hell song, handle this, in too deep, and machine gun. o and some say but its extra easy so idk if u would count that.

i havent had a chance to put much time into learning any of the stuff from the last 2 CDs, i've really been meaning to, but i can play machine gun, handle this, in too deep, motivation (that's sort of a solo in there), and hell song. i think there were a couple more i cant remember,... and also the song they did with tenacious d a couple of years back, "things i want"

dude, they use bit er end because it fits they weren't like "you know what, lets go remake battery in our own way and see if anyone notices" they just made a song and due to the beginig structure of it they were forced to make it similar.

I started to learn the solo in Welcome To Hell (since it's the only bass solo they have) but realized quickly that it was actually easier than the rest of the song. It's just really fast, so I didn't bother with it, I hope Cone puts out some badass bull on the next album like the bass equivalent of The Bitter End.

thats cool, my big brother has sat down for about ten minutes one day and figured out The Hell Song and In Too Deep's solos, but I don't think that he really cares about the rest of it enough to spend any time on learning it. I need to get ahold of that song.

haha yeah i figured out the bass solo from welcome to hell on my guitar just for fun. cone is talented and i too would really like to hear some great stuff from him.

hopeulikemygenocide 02-21-2005 07:05 PM

i saw earlier in the thread every1 was talking about extra songs but i never saw their song with iggy pop mentioned. its called little know it all. check out the video.

DJ Ducksauce 02-21-2005 07:09 PM

Little Know It All is pretty good, but I think it gets old fast.

yeah, it would be amazing to hear an amazing bass solo, we have so many guitar solos mostly by Dave maybe two by Deryck if he cares enought and Steve totally kicks *** on 32 Ways To Die, why can't we have perfection from Cone?????

that was songs that are them, not with other people, they also did one with Unwritten Law called Unwritten Christmas that was awesome

I don't like Iggy Pop a whole lot, hes good and all, but I just don't like him that much, but I've only heard the song twice and one was live on David Letterman
I think that solo sounds too much like the solo off of Maxwell Murder by Rancid.
yay, another comparison from Sum 41, why is it that everyone seems to think that Sum 41 just took a bunch of random songs and were like "okay, copying commense"? It's getting kinda annoying, but I believe you.
